Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We saw this restaurant on our long walk around town and made a reservation for the evening. The food is French-ish in style (as one would expect), and my prawn starter then fish main were both very tasty. Centrally located

Delicious meal, fast service. Highly recommend. Nice decor, background music nice and quiet. Lemon curd tart for dessert was a highlight.

This was a very disappointing birthday celebration for two at what was supposed to be a top Palmerston North restaurant. A Sunday evening, one week before Christmas, and the place was empty. Entrees and. mains were eventually ordered. I ordered Scallops. Tiger Prawns were served....To avoid a fuss and further delay, I accepted the Tiger Prawns. Considering that I could see just one other couple in the restaurant, this was inexcusable. Not exactly run off their feet. For a main, I ordered a rack of lamb, and a side of potato wedges cooked in duck fat. They were chips. The lamb and chips were just WAY WAY too salty. My guest ordered a dessert of affogato, but with decaffeinated espresso. I was charged an extra $2.50 for the decaffeinated coffee. Rather petty, I thought, when the entire bill amounted to just under $200. In Palmerston North, there are way better cafes and restaurants than this one, and they're not difficult to find. Make the effort! The Dejeuner? Not recommended.More

Cocktail drink not balanced. Weird tasting. Drowned in too much lime juice. Food poorly cooked. Fillet Mignon Steak was medium rare when I requested medium well done. Chewy mushrooms. Mash homestyle. Affogato with Frangelico coffee and liquor fine however the half scoop of vanilla ice...cream was tasteless. The scallop entree was presented as a mess on the plate. Scallops were rubbery and chewy. Main of pork belly had no crackle. Tasted like it had been reheated a number of times. Overcooked. Carrots overcooked. Red cabbage tasted odd. Red velvet cake for dessert was dry and tasted microwave heated and served with half a scoop of ice cream. Not a good place to be on a cold night as drafty even though wall heaters were full on.More

Located in a part of a very grand looking 1930s style block, Dejeuner provides great food from a small menu (Gordon Ramsay would be pleased) which it does well. My filet mignon was perfect as were the scallops and cauliflower. The dessert – Opera cake...– was a real light delight. Service was excellent and the ambience just right. An excellent evening.More

Went there for a birthday party. Ordered the scallops as entre, venison as mains and lemon curd for dessert. The scallops were fresh, large and nicely cooked. The venison and lemon curd were average. Service was superb. A-

Was not aware that the restaurant had changed hands. Food was okay but not wonderful. Charged $8 for duck fat potatoes but they looked and tasted more like frozen wedges. We weren’t fan of the deserts which we only had a couple of mouth fulls,...also the Coke Zero tasted funny the wine was very nice. If you’re looking for pub food and quick meals it’s the place for you.More

Great lunch and fantastic, friendly service from our waiter. We had a beef burger with fries, aioli and sauce with a beer that was included with it. Caesar salad with chicken, was very nice and proscesso. Food was very nice and prompt. Was the only...gf choice on menu, minus the croutons.More

We had waited. A little bit toast the new owner settle in … and then bloody Covid delayed our visit. Thoroughly enjoyable meal. Entrees of Garlic tiger Prawns and glazed Quail were enthusiastically devoured. Delicate flavours. Mains of the Venison, filet Mignon and pork belly...all got very positive feedback from each party - nothing extraordinary just very well cooked. Good quality meat and veg well nicely done. We will returnMore

Decent meal. Not exactly French as the name may imply, cuisine is mostly the usual fare you get in standard European restaurants

My partner and I were in Palmerston North for the night and walked past and the menu grabbed our attention so we went in. Glad we did! The service was great, the waiter was saying it has new owners. We had the duck entree to...share, I had the caeser salad for my main and my partner had the short ribs. The food was all exceptional. Delicious and presented well and the portions were generous. I also had a vodka martini which was presented very nicely and partner had a glass of wine. Would definitely recommend.More

I went out with a group of people and ordered a seafood pasta dish. It was boiled supermarket pasta, a bought sauce of still tasted strongly of the factory production line. There were about 4 small prawns - let's call them shrimps - no herbs,...no cheese, and it cost over $20. I could have made it at home for $5 and done it a la Nigella's "Slu-ts spaghetti" and grated parmesan over it too. It was a miserable night out and I'd highly recommend you cross the road and go to Aqaba.More

This is our go to restaurant, not any more. Change of ownership, change of menu and definitely change of quality food. Ordered pork belly, favourite but sadden when arrived. Waiter asked about our meal and we told him but no comment. We have used entertainment...vouchers for many years but they wouldn’t except this so just paid bill and left. Now it’s time to find another go to restaurant in Palmy.More
