Decadent sashimi set from Wabi Sabi Japanese Cuisine in Palmerston North. Best I have had in NZ so far. Thick cuts of salmon, salmon belly, tuna, hotate (scallops), ika (squid), amebi (sweet prawns), tamago (egg), hiyashi wakame (seaweed salad). Lovely presentation, very fresh and great...value for $ Have eaten here thrice, and takeaway once. Consistently excellent, knowledgable owner/chef, authentic cuisine, great ambience. Highly rec! 😋 In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. Love the concept!More

Kitchen closes at 8.30pm, restaurant open till 9.30pm. So I arrived at before 8.00pm and finished my beer and dinner( starter/ main) by 8.30pm. There was no one available to clear my empty plates or offer a second beer or offer desert. So I went...to the counter to ask for a green tea ice cream and another beer. My surprise, kitchen is closed as it was 8.40pm and sadly no green tea ice cream I was craving for. But the lady was apologetic and it was clear it was out of her control. Really sad to experience this or else the food was good, the beer was better.More

Went there for dinner before a show. I liked the atmosphere, not noisy, tables had good space, perfect background music, good, prompt service. Most of all, they had cushions lying around on the bench seats so a shorty like me could get up to the...right level! That is VERY rare and appreciated. I enjoyed the food, was able to order something to satisfy my keto needs. Restroom even had a nail brush, and a mirror I could see into (I'm short). I'd love to eat there again soon.More

What a fantastic lunch today. Walked in off the street with the family and what a meal. Everything was so yummy. Great mix of options. Recommend the beef and rice meal.

Just used there online ordering service for the first time, it was super fast and convenient. The food was amazing as usual, the salmon rolls are brilliant. Hands down the best sushi in palmy

There was nothing vegetarian here and I tried Tofu for the first time and severely regretted it. Never again.

Luckily we booked our table, as it was a very busy restaurant which is usually a good sign of a good choice. However, I found the tables to be too close together for my liking, and it was difficult to move around the tables and...waiters. The pork ramen was a generous sizing, with a flavoursome broth, but the boiled egg had collapsed which did not look good when the dish arrived. My young grandsons liked the edamame, fried squid and miso soup. When ordering the gyoza, I didn't realise it was vegetarian - which was underwhelming, as we were looking forward to a pork dumpling. We usually order skewered prawns for the children, but were told that there were no skewers left. Ramune is the highlight for our children visiting Japanese restaurants, and we were disappointed that they didn't have any, so we stopped in next door at Yeda to buy some takeaway bottles on the way home.More

Ordered takeaway for the family - winners were the curry rice, takoyaki and yakisoba noodles. We also tried okonomiyaki which wasn't like any of the ones we had in Japan (it had an egg on top) and was nowhere near as fluffy. It was more...like a potato fritter consistency. The karaage chicken was pretty average. I think the fact that everything was sweating in plastic didn't help... I think it kinda soggied things a bit.More

Pretty good Japanese, good service and reasonably priced. Portions are pretty small though. Overall was a good meal

We were very disappointed in the lack of flavour, and quality of the food. We all ordered very different things, and none of it tasted good. We did not even finish our food. Would not recommend to anybody, if you like good quality food. Especially...after spending the money we did, it was an extreme disappointment. If we recommend anything from the menu it would be the water.More
