We were in Palmerston North visiting & found this amazing ( Old English Pub )
"Rose and Crown " for a night meal it was great ( very busy ) so would recommend booking ( we did the second night & was much better ) food was good value for money & plenty of it . Staff were friendly , accommodating & helpful . We would definitely go back & highly recommend

Good food, great prices, friendly staff. It's got that slightly down at heel ambience that I think is just perfect! Quite warm when we went.

I've been many times before and it's still as good now as ever it was. A very extensive menu means just about everyone is catered for.
It can get busy at times so always best to book

We had lunch at the Rose and Crown for our Grandad's birthday today. When we were ordering our meals at the bar, we asked for gluten-free bread with a burger or chips instead of normal bread because a family member is coeliac. The staff member said very abruptly that they don't do gluten free and if we wanted chips instead we had to pay for them. Of course we were happy to pay extra, but the attitude he gave us was awful and we had done nothing wrong. We didn't say anything to him about it but there was also an older man in the kitchen that kept looking out and scowling at us. not very professional. We were the only ones in the restaurant and we won't be going back.

Really disappointed- waited an hour and a half for our dinner to come out - we were a big group of 20 to celebrate 3 birthdays but we booked the table 2 weeks in advance for 6pm. All the plates with chips were cold and the steaks cold & under cooked, the butter blocks sat on top frozen.
Spoke with the manager (he was lovely) but he couldn’t help us told us to ring the owner Tom during business hours to discuss.
We didn’t have time to even have desert as it was 8.15pm by the time we had finished eating and the kids were tired and restless by then. Really didn’t add to the give birthday vibe. :(

Oh wow what a treat. Amazing food and the greatest service!! Lamb shank to die for!!! The stew was above and beyond. Ambience was very English pub like.

It was a long time since we had been to the Rose and Crown and had always found the food to be good. However, when we visited on the last day of the Covid outbreak in February when we were still at Level 2 there was no attempt at waitress service and we had to both order from the bar and collect our food from a tiny window. No measures were put in place for social distancing when waiting at the bar or waiting for food at the tiny window. The seafood basket and the fish and chips were very poor. Very disappointing.

The staff were friendly as
Food was ordered and arrived in a timely manner.
The food tasted great.
The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable.

Well, that was lovely! I had the special, NZ Lamb Rump $31.50, and it was perfect. The lamb was very tender, lots of fresh veggies and potato mash, with a parmesan wafer and lots of red wine jus. Probably far more than I needed to eat, generous serving, but delicious. Thank you Rose and Crown.

Visited for lunch with a small group of work colleagues for one of boys leaving work. We didn't have to wait too long from ordering before we were all chowing down on your typical pub fare and washing it down with a cold beer.

True to name and atmosphere, this place was definitely a British throwback of old. The food was quite nice and reasonable value. Service was quite timely too. Pub was warm and comfortable

We used our GPS and kept going in circles, it would say next right on Main St (but that went same way as street we were on) WHEN we did turn right as it said to we were in an alley carpark just outside entrance to Rose and Crown. Its just like an English pub, casual and cozy. We both had a pint of black beer, I had the small fish and chips and it was quite large (delicious) my English friend had the ham steak meal and loved it. This is one place we will return to on our next visit. Staff were friendly...
