It's a D.A.D ... a Dime A Dozen Cafe

I had to think how can I rate these kinds of cafes that serve mainly brought in food, you see this food all over New Zealand and there's always a main bakery they buy in the food from. I thought about there being so many, too many and then thought of an old saying "dime a dozen". So D.A.D's they are! It's ok of course if you like that kind of food, but many of us like to go to a boutique cool kind of cafe with home made food that looks and is special. Some Cafes I used to love years ago, decided to become D.A.D's and I don't go and I bet many others don't too. The same old chocolate and caramel slice that so sickly sweet, chocolate rough slice, custard squares, lolly slice, they all look and taste the same because they are. In the case of this cafe I had missed lunch and no time to sit down, looked at all the D.A.D stuff and went for a Spinach and Feta savoury. Admittedly it looked a bit dry but I was hopeful. Big mistake, the egg inside was like rubber, the sweetcorn was hard, no succulent juice as a savoury should be.Just miserable. But it was only $3.20 and so top marks for that, but then thats too much when its not worthy to eat. The girl at the counter was pleasant, but it's clearly not the same old Terrace End Cafe it used to be when it was making homemade food and getting an Asparagus Savoury Basket was my favourite, or a lovely fresh sandwich with nice fillings. So I won't go back, no point, because all the food is going to be the same, thats how it rolls. A great shame because "homemade and delicious (and fresh) " is where it's at! Now what can I call those ... :-)

Super spot for coffee and cake.

Coffee on the Terrace has a good selection of cabinet food - especially the cakes. They also have a good variety on their menu if you want a light meal.. The coffee is excellent too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Very handy for us when doing business at Terrace End.

This used to be a favorite cafe of mine, but unfortunatly I will not be back. Service is bad, I arrived after the lunch hour rush so the place wasnt busy,, I ordered my coffee an a sandwich. The sandwich had dried out, bread was curled up an the ham had dry hard edge. Obviously counter staff do not check food is kept covered with damp cloths I waited for approximatly 15 minutes to finally get my coffee, nice an hot as i like it but so weak an milky i couldnt drink it. While sitting i watched 7 customers come in and kept waiting at the counter, no appology for their wait. This cafe does not feel like a happy place. Sad to see what was a good stop off going backwards.

Obviously this place has changed hands since my last visit . Popped in for a takeaway coffee ..... will never be back . Barista spent too much time with other staff members telling them what to do instead of focusing on her job making hot drinks .She left me waiting 20 mins for my coffee . When confronted with the slow service , she replied with attitude and a snarl . Bad systems in place here resulting in poor and slow service .

Tired, dirty old style Kiwi stodge cafe

Sandwiches, pies, burgers and fried things. Cafe cleaning is really poor, staff looked bored to be there. Everything is just tired and dated. The only saving grace is the coffee was ok.

Popped in here for the first time thinking I’d get a great coffee, given the name of the cafe. On entering; the cafe was busy but there were chairs scattered everywhere and not assigned to any particular table. I ordered a long black and a scone. The long black arrived with the lady spilling it before setting it down. If I hadn’t asked for a serviette for the saucer, I don’t think I would have received one. The coffee itself didn’t excite me at all - no crema, looked insipid and tasted like dirty dishwashing water. I had a couple of sips then left it. The scone, which I had asked to be toasted/sandwich pressed, turned up about 10 minutes after I sat down. It was very brown, verging on burnt on the top and while I eat half of it, to try and give the benefit of the doubt, it was not pleasant. $9.90 not at all well spent. I didn’t say anything to the staff because I figured if they offered to replace it all, I would have got the exact same thing. The staff were pleasant enough but everything else was pretty ghastly that has led to this review being written.

We came in and ordered a BLT and took a panini from the cabinet. The panini was served quickly. After 25 minutes of waiting we asked where the BLT was, were told we had not ordered one, the staff member then checked and we had ordered one. As we had to leave, were given our money back, no real apology given A staff member flicked a customer on the bottom with a cloth then proceeded to clean the tables. Several staff members were calling each other names, customers could hear this. We won't be back anytime soon.

A popular place for snacks and lunches. There is a good selection of cabinet and cooked food. Service is quick and efficient. Good to pop in if down that part of town.

Always look forward to coming here

Always look forward to coming here and sometimes twice a week and have never had a problem and staff no exactly what coffee we will get and all the different meals we have had over the years from big breakfasts, toasted sandwiches, hotcakes etc it has been great and this place has no toilets as it is an older café and the rules were different then but you only have a short walk across the road to one. The atmosphere is great there is plenty of free parking and like any great café it does get very busy at times and that alone should tell you something and in a wheelchair no problem to get in and being open 7 days gives you plenty of choices to pop in.

First time in months I have been here. The service if anything was even better than the last time. The food was perfectly cooked as I asked for and I struggled to complete "the big Breakfast". Add a great coffee in a bowl and a great brunch was complete.

Amazing Hospitality

Just popped in on the way home after being at the Hospital, Decided we were rather hungry so asked could we have a big breakfast this was at 2 30 in afternoon, Girls were just so great, No problems at all, The Manager and Stacey were totally awesome.. Will def be back here.. Good Vibes !! keep up the amazing service. was a delight to see after being there all day you both still had the Wow factor going on !
