Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our regular cafe being closed for an event, we decided upon the Bee's Knees, an old favourite from several years back. What a disappointment. The food cabinet was very sparse, with only one or two of most items on offer. The food choices were limited,...and any items which would have been of interest to me (a couple of quiches sounded good) were overcooked to the point of being completely black on the outside. I settled for what was advertised as a 'ouble-cheese scone'. This was a total disappointment. It would have had little more than a sniff of cheese, and was so bland and doughy that eating it was not pleasant. My husband had a sausage-roll which he said was good, although half the size of those on previous visits. His custard slice had icing that was so strongly lemon-flavoured, the taste of the custard was overpowered. Service was OK, although the person on the counter was bossy and abrupt. There will not be a return visit.More

Terrible service and even worse coffee. Ordered a flat white and the milk had been over steamed and was scorching. Server must have been having a bad day! Definitely won’t be going again.

We visited on Saturday 5th December. The food is quite nice but having a young server who wouldn’t talk to me, look at me or bring the drink I ordered until prompted by my husband and then apologised to him while still completely ignoring me...for some inexplicable reason made for a very unpleasant experience. If someone is not interested in the basics of courtesy they should not be working in a customer facing role. This business has lost our custom.More

I live nearby and the Bees Knees is my go to for a tea and sweet treat or a light lunch. Usually with my Mum 😀 I wanted to write a review as I usually forget to. I had a lovely light lunch with my...Mum just before Xmas 2019 and it was great! I got the poached eggs and avo and I loved it. Small-ish size (actually probably the correct size but other cafes just make too much food so make it look small-ish). Great poaching of the eggs. Always enjoy a cup of tea here and a sweet. We had a slice of fudge and it was also yum. Thanks Bees Knees. P.S. we purchased their little Christmas mince pies to take home and they were the best of the season. 👍More

Unfortunately the eggs benedict was very small, the eggs were overdone and tasted like vinegar. A real disappointment for a place that looks appealing from the outside.

Nestled amongst the shops in Hokowhitu village is this cosy farmhouse style kitchen cafe. The staff are welcoming and the service is reasonably quick dependant on time of day.As it can be buzzing. The decor has old world China teacups on display and vintage mirrors...adorn the wall.Dotted around is charming buzzy bees. There is a selection of homemade cabinet food and delectable delights on the counter. You May also order meals from the blackboard menu all at very reasonable prices. The coffee is also very good.More

I personally don’t like being the person who gives any business 1 star, but after my lunch visit a few days back I had to express my frustration. As far as food and coffee goes it was nice but when you hear someone who works...there saying horrible and completely unwarranted comments about you and your guests you brought in, its completely unprofessional to hear that comments about your size (ima size 14) and Hearing “ doesn’t look like she needs the food anyway” I’m appalled. Upset. I used to love going in for coffee and lunch dates but won’t be back after being made to feel like I can’t have a lunch with friends and family without being criticised.More
