Have been to Nero maybe 10 times in recent years but this last experience was not good. We were seated in the lobby. Cold and noisy. To start with, we arrived a little early (maybe ten minutes) and the waitress seemed agitated and asked twice...where the rest of our party was and would we like to order without waiting for them. We said no but ordered a drink. Our companions arrived on time. My main was fish - snapper and I am certain it had been thawed from frozen. The restaurant will probably deny this but I buy and eat a lot of snapper and I know the difference in taste between fresh fish and previously frozen fish. Not sure what it cost - somewhere around $40 I think. The veges were awful as well. Kind of chewy. The dessert was fine. We booked early, about two or three weeks in advance, so I don't know why were we seated in the lobby. Very poor overall. Won't be returning or recommending this restaurant.More
I keep meaning to write something on TripAdvisor regarding this restaurant but never seem to get around to it. Today while writing some feedback on some alternative places recently visited i thought I would write something on our experience of visiting Nero's. We have been...to this restaurant at least 40-50 times in the 20 something years it has been operating and never ever have we been disappointed. It is the place to go when you want quality service and a dining experience to remember. This is not a venue where you will receive a plate filled to the edge with food. But it is a venue to experience the complete meal from Starter to desert with a wine or drink of choice to compliment. Every individual has their special place to take ones wife or partner for a meal and for my wife and I this is that place. Thankyou team for striving to be the best and maintaining that quality over many years. Mark & AnnMore
Food there at Nero is level above. The taste and presentation is out of the world!! I had a chicken dish. It was so well put together with different elements and textures. I really enjoyed. I will definitely goes there again with my wife.
Recommended by friends we were very happy that we followed their recommendation. The meal and service were superb . The meal choice was varied and we were so tempted by mains on the menu that there is no doubt we will be back next time...we are in the city.
The drinks menu was excellent. If you want quality food with great service this is the place for you. If you are looking for a cheap night out choose somewhere else because the cost is towards the top of the range.More
We were visiting from out of town, and needed a restaurant for Saturday night. Nero is a beautiful 100-year-old 2-storey house. We found the service to be absolutely superb. The owner (I assume) welcomed us at the door and made us feel very important from...the outset. The waitress couldn't do enough for us and, even though the restaurant was quite busy, gave us the impression that we were the only ones she was looking after. The food was absolutely fantastic. There were four of for dinner that night, and each meal was cooked to perfection.
We are going back to Palmerston North in November, and we will be back at Nero again, as there are plenty of other items on the menu that I have my eye on. :-) The owners have been running Nero for 20 years; long may they continue.More
