We met at periwinkles restaurant many years ago, both young, passionate and enthusiastic trainee chefs. One qualified, we opened our first restaurant 'Vasseur on Broadway' a successful boutique 35 seat restaurant which we owned and ran for 10 years. In 2000 we purchased and then transformed this beautiful 1920's homestead into what Nero is today. A few years on, with two wonderful boys- Jack and Harry, numerous awards, and a fantastic team of staff, we are still passionate and enthusiastic, but not as young as we once were! The food and the service on Tuesday night was so good that instead of trying another restaurant in Palmerston North we went back a second time tonight. [Wednesday] The food was beautifully presented, flavorsome and expertly cooked. Even better was the service from the Maitre...D and the lovely lady that served us. Highly recommended if you want quality.More

I have been here four times now and I have enjoyed my dinners here, the food, my most important part as I am always searching for the best food in New Zealand as I travel all over for business and I always search for the...best food for my body. The food here is really nice, they have even changed a part of the dish if I have asked which I appreciate a lot, my second dinner they burnt my meal but did change it for a non burnt dish, the non burnt food is very good which I did not have an experience after like this, the food is fresh and delicious with a wide range of beverages. The atmosphere is pleasant, charming and calming which helps a lot after a days work as I’m sure all would agree. Communication I have found is always the key but I find this is the only thing that I would like to let people be aware of. I have ask questions about the food which have all been answered to me if not found the answer by the chef however when asking someone a question if I would like water or sparkling water and not telling the customer that you are going to be billed for a 10.50 sparkling water , I feel this is quite rude as no every customer would be ok with paying this for sparkling water which I would like to let everyone know this otherwise this may happen to you on your visit. However I look forward to my fifth visit and I have rated this place 4.5 star and I would highly recommend it. I would also like to say thank you to the staff for the fantastic food. Booked direct by phone with this restaurant and had a call back on the day to reconfirm and then a later one to offer a 30 minute earlier reservation. Really helpful as we had flown in evening so had booked later than we wanted to...ensure we had actually landed as it turns out departures were delayed due to fog so it worked out well From the phone booking and call back it was very friendly and efficient. Restaurant has comfy feel and holds its own on the street front We enjoyed the mushroom bruschetta as an entree and Duck confit and pork belly with ice cream rolled in nuts sort of affagato style with sherry and a small black coffee ! Very yummy A cheese board with scrummy salted brittle . Good wine list and Sophie our waitress was attentive and friendly and a real credit to the business with her winning smile and personality . We were surprised to have the matte de come around to each table to personally check on meals and diners , a nice touch that felt genuine and used to happen at all quality establishments. We had no complaints and highly recommend for a lovely evening on a cold cold cold Palmerston North night.More

I had my doubts about mushroom bruschetta but I’m very glad I tried that as my entree! It was delicious. Nero delivered again with an outstanding entree and main. I had two different wines to match and they were delicious - none of that glass...of wine from a bottle that’s been open for days, very fresh. My only disappointment was that I didn’t have room for dessert. My waitress was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.More

Have been to Nero maybe 10 times in recent years but this last experience was not good. We were seated in the lobby. Cold and noisy. To start with, we arrived a little early (maybe ten minutes) and the waitress seemed agitated and asked twice...where the rest of our party was and would we like to order without waiting for them. We said no but ordered a drink. Our companions arrived on time. My main was fish - snapper and I am certain it had been thawed from frozen. The restaurant will probably deny this but I buy and eat a lot of snapper and I know the difference in taste between fresh fish and previously frozen fish. Not sure what it cost - somewhere around $40 I think. The veges were awful as well. Kind of chewy. The dessert was fine. We booked early, about two or three weeks in advance, so I don't know why were we seated in the lobby. Very poor overall. Won't be returning or recommending this restaurant.More

I keep meaning to write something on TripAdvisor regarding this restaurant but never seem to get around to it. Today while writing some feedback on some alternative places recently visited i thought I would write something on our experience of visiting Nero's. We have been...to this restaurant at least 40-50 times in the 20 something years it has been operating and never ever have we been disappointed. It is the place to go when you want quality service and a dining experience to remember. This is not a venue where you will receive a plate filled to the edge with food. But it is a venue to experience the complete meal from Starter to desert with a wine or drink of choice to compliment. Every individual has their special place to take ones wife or partner for a meal and for my wife and I this is that place. Thankyou team for striving to be the best and maintaining that quality over many years. Mark & AnnMore
