The dinner we had the pleasure of eating here last night was absolutely delightful! I can't rate it highly enough, we enjoyed every mouthful. The duck liver pate and the souffle entries so tasty but be warned, there is quite alot of the pate and...the crostini that comes with it. The duck leg and pork belly mains were really delicious. Of course I should mention the beyond this world duck fat potatoes - best we have ever had!! The service was amazing and the staff so friendly and helpful. Along with the lovely surroundings, this was a wonderful night out and I'd love to go back soon.More
Absolutely fantastic every single time we go!! Can’t fault this place; wonderful food, exceptional hosts, attentive service, warm atmosphere. Our favourite restaurant!! Highly recommend this place for either lunch or dinner. We take friends, family and business colleagues here and always have an excellent experience....Nero, don’t change what you’re doing!More
I absolutely love this restaurant. Definitely my favourite restaurant in Palmerston North. The food is fantastic, as is the service. I’ve dined here six times now and I’ve loved it every time.
Nero's profile is that of a high end almost fine dining restaurant. The menu style and prices certainly create that expectation and we have no complaint about the food - although the desserts were rather mediocre. However a high end, high priced meal was tarnished...by poor service. The wait staff appear inexperienced and poorly trained - not their fault I guess. On arrival, our table was unstable so the waitress got under it and found the cork that was supporting one leg firstly saying that we must have moved the table. Plates were served over other diners and handed to the recipient and not placed on the table in front of them - which was possible as staff had access to 3 sides of our 3 person table. And staff continually said "sorry for interrupting" (and did interrupt all the time) as they wanted to do or say something instead of politely waiting a couple of seconds until we would have naturally let them say or do their thing. This appears to be some kind of staff mantra that sounds polite but is actually rude.More
This was another faultless dining experience at Nero. The staff are very friendly and personable and the food is always cooked perfectly. We’ve tried Little Savannah, Navajo Steak House, Aberdeen, Lone Star and others but Nero offers quality and consistency unmatched by anyone else in...Palmy. I highly recommend the beef fillet- the chef really knows how to cook and season beef perfectly. Yes the price point is slightly higher than other local restaurants but it is absolutely worth it. The portion sizes are good, the plating is a work of art and the food is the highest quality. This is our favourite restaurant and is always our go-to for special occasions.More
The atmosphere food and service were great. We weren’t hurried and the staff were friendly attentive and charming especially our waitress Sadie and young Chantay who took us to our seats and offered to take our group photo at the end of the evening. The...duck pate was my favourite. Easter dessert was disappointing hence 9/10 but overall a great experience of fine dining In Palmerston NorthMore
Another visit to Nero and another incredibly enjoyable evening. The staff kept our large group well served, the food and wine are always delicious, and Yvette somehow remembers and has a warm welcome for guests who can only visit once a year. We can't wait...to get back.More
From the moment you walk into Nero and are greeted by Yvette you know the night will be fantastic. The restaurant ambience sets just the right tone. Beautiful lighting, rich fabric textures and comfortable intimate tables settings. We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary...and other travel and dinning arrangements were no longer possible. Knowing not a lot about Nero other than the past reviews on trip advisor we made a booking. We started with mouth water prawn and chive dumplings complimented with a gorgeous sauce and a cheese souffle accompanied with caramelised pear and beets that both just melted in our mouths. The complimenting wine list was outstanding. On to mains with a stunning pork belly main and rack of lamb cooked such that we were in complete awe. The seasonal brocollini should not be overlooked. Of course we had to also finish with dessert they were simply too beautiful when reading the options to resist. The sticky date pudding was sensational and the vanilla sherry ice cream with an expresso and biscotti a great end to a memorable night. We highly recommend Nero's. It set the perfect tone for a very special occasion. Thank you to Nero'sMore
Nice rustic style restaurant serving a reasonably broad menu of fresh locally focused food. Bigger than average portions, good service, and about right pace wise for the service. The only drawbacks were the noise from diners due principally to a lack of noise absorbing panels...and decor internally, and the ambient temperature in the dining area, which was close to 28 degrees on my thermometer, making it uncomfortable to stay inside and eat. The restaurant needs to address both these items asap, which are really inexcusable as they are relatively cheap to fix.More
Had not been for quite a few years due to a somewhat average meal last time which was exceptionally over priced. So with an open mind we ventured back to test the waters, hoping for change. The service you cannot fault, waitress was friendly, very...clear about the specials and kept coming back to check, prefect! Perusing the menu the pricing immediately hits you, however with its reputation as fine dining we expected the meal to reflect the price being charged...it didn't. Yes the steak (what there was of it) was tender and cooked as asked, but $48.50 for one piece of steak with no sides just a smattering of sauce and a leaf, not really fair! Paying nearly $20 extra for a very small portion of potatoes and a couple of leaves of broccoli with a slither of asparagus with cheese sauce sparingly drizzled on them is not vege's for two! If you desire a first class steak meal where you actually get a steak, go to Aberdeen or Navajo, Nero's attempt at one has them well behind the Premier steak houses in the city. We were underwhelmed big time, nothing has changed sadly and the place certainly doesn't live up to the hype...real shame as the staff are great.More
We went to the restaurant based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. From the moment you see the gorgeous house to the friendly welcome, attentive waiting staff to the delicious meal and wine, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Do go to the restaurant for...a special occasion.More
Great place for dinner and a business catch up. Brilliant service and stunning food. Yvette and the Nero’s team are a class act. Look forward to next time.
This was the second time we have dined here. Sadly, this experience was nowhere near as good as our first. While the staff were friendly and professional, the meal left a lot to be desired. The entree was very nice; however, the mains and desserts...- and we made different choices, so four dishes in all - were uniformly bland and lacking in flavour. On this experience, we would certainly not rate this as the best fine-dining restaurant in town.More
Attended a milestone birthday and we had the space on the top floor. It was great. The food timed perfectly and more importantly tasted beautifully and exceeded everyone's expectations. The service was excellent. Thank you.
