Cafe Jacko, on George Street (arguably cafe central in Palmerston North) is my favourite cafe for my many visits to Palmy. Specialising in breakfast and lunch, it is popular with the locals, and tends to fill up quickly at 12 noon (booking in advance is a good idea). The ambience is casual, warm and friendly with simple but comfortable wooden chairs and tables, and then there are the staff. They are welcoming, enthusiastic, smiling and efficient. Makes a huge difference to the overall vibe. The lunch menu has a range of different dishes which should cater to most tastes, plus you can order custom-made toasted club sandwiches. My favourite is the chicken sammie (chicken, brie and cranberry). I am addicted to the long black, and Cafe Jacko's are excellent. Highly recommended if you are looking for a simple but tasty lunch with a nice ambience.

Went here with my partners family. The review is based on all of our dishes. We got the tomato avo feta bacon bagel, mince on toast, omelette and eggs Benedict with bacon.
Pros:
The food tasted amazing, no complaints there! Also really good portion sizes, you can actually chose to have a half size which is equivalent to a full size at other cafes. The presentation was also very nice and prices were reasonable. Oh and their tumeric latte was delicious!!
Cons:
Took a while to get our order and it wasn’t that busy either. Also, and this is just being picky, but the avocado on the bagel was very scarce, it would have been about a quarter of an avo if not less.
Overall it was pretty good and I will likely go back!

Friendly restaurant that the locals go to. Coffee, smothies, and breakfasts were all good all cooked or made well only let down by some weird hard bread with the scrambled egg. Kids pancakes (hotcakes) came with dark maple syrup and whipped butter which seemed an unusual combination but went together great

Perfect coffee every time. Have frequented this place a lot with various individuals on my last visit, I only had coffee, which was perfect as usual.
One of our group didn't enjoy their meal (mince on toast), but they didn't not make their views known to the establishment, who I am sure would have been interested in his comments. However, the 3 diners, happily masticated and were very happy with what they had been served.
Have scored 3 out of 5 because while the individual who didn't like his meal, didn't speak up, it was very unusual for Jacko's where we've always had above average food.

Busy day today at the cafe being Easter Monday. Coffees were great and arrived pretty quickly. Ordered a chicken sammie which was terrible. The chicken was cold, the Brie was melted and cold and the sourdough bread turned out to be two white slices of tip top bread which went soggy under the chicken and cranberry sauce. When mentioned to the waitress that the bread was rubbish she said the chef ran out of bread, if she’d known she would have told me. Worst sandwich ever - will not be returning.

Went to Cafe Jacko for breakfast, just my partner & i, for the weekend before Anzac. Walked in & instantly greeted by a friendly Maori man. Was escorted to a available table, menu’s already on the table & the man promptly asks us if we would like drinks to start. 5min later, drinks were brought to us. They took our food order. 5min later, our food was brought to us. We were constantly greeted by other staff asking us if we were okay and wanted anything else as they would clear our table. All the staff were easy to talk to and all were constantly smiling and just generally happy. Big ups to the female, maori waitress (Aroha mai, i dont know your name), you were the bomb! I left Cafe Jacko happier than when i had arrived which is why i had to write this review! Cafe Jacko is a wonderful place to visit and i would reccomend it to anyone and everyone!

This is our favourite place for French Toast and Lambs Fry & Bacon. The last mentioned is not common in PN. After "doing" George St. Market Day (no cars) and so waiting for the crowd to leave we obtain seats. Jacko took our order and commented he would find some suitable bread as the "usual" had run out. We commented that our choices were still the best in town upon paying and leaving.

This is a great place to eat the staff are friendly the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is great. Try and not go at peak times though because it can get full sometimes. There is a good selection of food to choose from either the menu or cabinet snacks. Highly recommended for any age as the kids meals are great to A++ to Jacko's

Husband and I treated our selves to a late breakfast here recently.
I like the fact I could get a half portion of big breakfast, which I didn’t quite manage to finish.
Quick service , only quibble is the menus were at front counter which meant I had to wait for customer in front before I could grab menus. Nice pot of tea, good coffee according to husband.

Well it lived up to all the reviews. We arrived for breakfast and where greater by a warm bubbly staff member. Ordered coffee and our meals and where surprised how fast they where delivered. I had the mince on toast and it was absolutely awesome. It left that perfect orange stain on the plate. We will be back.😁

They always say go to a place thats full so we did and we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent as was the food and it's reasonably priced. We wven got scones and scrolls to take away from their well stocked cabinet. So if you're looking for somewhere in Palmy to go for agood feed, go there.

Breakfast on Easter Monday and the cafe was buzzing. Waited a very short time for a table then service was quick and friendly despite being run off their feet. We had Kai breakfast and French toast burger. The meals were well presented, hot and super tasty. Best breakfast we have had in a long time. Took away sweet treats which were also delicious. Well done team!

I’d rate this cafe as one of the top cafes in the North Island, at least. I haven’t been to a better one down South, mind you. Swift, friendly service, great coffee in excellent sizes and the food is outstanding. Breakfast, brunch or a snack on the run. It has been this good for years. Worth going to Palmerston North just to go there.
