Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were staying at a nearby motel and were really looking forward to our night out at Amaygen after reading some of the reviews. Unfortunately we were not that impressed with our main meals. They definitely looked amazing but didn’t taste as good as they...looked unfortunately. I had the poached fish and it really lacked any sort of flavour, very bland, which was disappointing. It also smelled very fishy which was off putting. The waitress didn’t offer any sort of apology when I told her I was disappointed with the fish. My husband enjoyed his ribs and I thought they were quite yummy too. The onions rings were very oily and batter-y tasting. The desserts on the other hand were AMAZING and I would definitely return just to have a dessert. The service was okay but at times it felt like we were forgotten about and the wait times were definitely a bit long.More

Exceptional quality and taste. There is never a bad meal at Amayjen and I find any excuse I can to dine here. While the food is divine, it is the service that ensures we keep returning.

What an amazing place! My best friend has long been a huge fan of this restaurant and had been trying to get me there for a while. A belated birthday dinner for him was the perfect excuse on a business trip south. The food and...presentation was world class fine dining, the dishes were nothing short of perfection! My only complaint and it’s a big one, is the location… it needs to be much closer to me in Auckland and no Palmerston North! Thanks so much Gen and Andrew for an awesome evening!More

Amazing meal. For entrees we had the Beignets and although not understanding what we were ordering we were rewarded with deliciousness! The lamb rump and beef cheek were our mains and were perfectly cooked and flavored. A little more root veggie base would have been...great to help soak up the richness of the beef cheeks. Oh the desert! I will be dreaming of that for awhile... we had the icecream sundae and it was so rich and sweet and perfect! It is a high end dining experience that has prices on par with the cities other fine dining restaurants. We will definitely be returning, it is a treat to go here.More

Terrible service, terrible attitude from the owner, charged us $25 per person for 2 people who could not come for dinner at the last minute!! Meal, drinks and dessert $466.00 ! Restaurant had empty tables!! So not like we took up anyones place, average food...considering an award had recently been given ! That was why we thought we would go there. Will never return and still think this is not legal to charge people a fee. Nothing about this misc fee in any of the site belonging to this Amayjen Restaurant.More

Amayjen did not disappoint. My sisters and I had an awesome night. The food was amazing with us all having the melt in your mouth Beef Cheeks, wine selection top notch and then there was dessert...OMG the dessert was out of this world, not only...did it look amazing but tasted soooo good. I had the "lemon" and it actually looked like a lemon. The ambience was so good and we could have sat there all night. Clean comfortable and friendly. Jenni even took our photo for us not once but twice . An awesome night, would highly recommend.More

Our visit to Amayjen, boasting the renowned chef who recently won two gold medals at NZ Chef of the Year, turned out to be a deeply unsatisfactory experience due to abysmal service and a significant oversight that left us without a meal. Despite the chef's...prestigious accolade, the restaurant failed to meet our expectations in terms of service and attentiveness. Upon entering Amayjen for a celebratory lunch, we were filled with anticipation, eager to sample the culinary creations of the esteemed chef. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasing, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. However, our hopes were quickly dashed. After being seated, it became apparent that the service at Amayjen was severely lacking. After waiting an hour without any sign of our meal and seeing other diners who came in after us receive their meals, we inquired about the status of our order, only to discover that it had never been placed in the kitchen. This oversight was unfathomable, considering the reputation of the chef and the restaurant's aspiration for excellence. To our disappointment, the manager failed to offer any explanation for the extended wait and appeared dismissive of our concerns. No genuine apology or attempt to rectify the situation was made, leaving us feeling unheard and undervalued as customers. Following our departure, the manager reached out by calling us, stating that our order had been overlooked due to a printer malfunction caused by a lack of paper. While we appreciated the belated apology the damage had already been done. The missed opportunity to dine at Amayjen and the initial dismissive attitude from the manager had eroded our confidence and trust in the establishment. In conclusion, despite the prestigious recognition bestowed upon the chef, our visit to Amayjen was marred by poor service, a significant oversight, and a dismissive response from the manager. The restaurant's failure to provide an acceptable dining experience tarnished the reputation that drew us there in the first place. Regrettably, I cannot recommend Amayjen based on our disappointing encounter.More

AMAYJEN is just the best, Most recent visit was brunch, but my partner and I are regularly there most weekends having brunch. And, we also have brunched with our parents, friends. Service is good, and the food is exceptional. Any changes we have required are...catered for, and the service is always with a smile. I would always highly recommend, and our first choice for any meal is always AMAYJEN.More
