Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were looking forward to some great Mexican food but quite disappointed. We arrived at about 7.20 & ordered a tray of tequila tasters & 3 cocktails for a group of 4. The drinks were amazing, unfortunately the food was less than average.. We ordered...the chimichanga & Mexican Fried Chicken to start followed by the Enchilada and a mixed platter for 2. The enchiladas were not very nice & the rest was average & bland. Very unlike Mexican food as we love Mexican cuisine, so was very very disappointing. Definitely not worth it. The service was also average until we asked for the dessert menu after which it went down hill when they said the kitchen was already closed. When I asked why we weren’t told the kitchen was closing, the waitress told us she just found out - obviously nobody decided to let the customers still in the restaurant know this. We were 1 of 3 other tables still eating. When I provided feedback when we settled the account, I was told we had been there for an hour and hadn’t ordered any food. All I asked them was to inform us so we could have ordered our desserts as we were still eating & enjoying our drinks, to which her response was that she hadn’t noticed we were still eating & proceeded to say they were a small business so made a call to close the kitchen. It was obvious they were just working there & didn’t care about how well the business did as they just wanted to close soo & go home. It’s no wonder they weren’t busy as they probably don’t get repeat customers. So not only did they miss out on 3 dessert orders, they missed out on further cocktails. Her response to this was we could still order drinks. We certainly will not be going back. Yes the cocktails were good, but we could order these at any good bar.More

We ate here on a Thursday night and it was quite quiet. The decor is great, a big Frida Kahlo theme going on, which makes it feel casual and welcoming. It’s a mix of tables and booths, we sat at a booth. Service was prompt...but unobtrusive. A bottle of tap water and glasses was provided without asking. The menu isn’t extensive but it has lots of interesting things on it. I was impressed that they use cuts of meat rather than mince. We ordered elotes (charred corn on the cob) and jalapeño poppers to start. The poppers were hot! But good . I had grilled beef birria tacos as a main. This came with a thick sauce (described as a soup), and slow cooked beef which was really flavourful and tender. Hubby had baja fish tacos - there are a whole range of tacos available including vegetarian and vegan. There are also vegan mains and a few gluten free choices. We shared a tostada salad which was also good, with fresh cheese and a tangy dressing. The margaritas were a stand out - we’ve travelled a lot and drank a few margaritas on the way, and these were excellent! The menu offers a range of margaritas but it also offers other cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks including Jarritos. I had a traditional margarita, hubby had a blood orange. It was a superhuman effort to limit ourselves to one each, once we tried them, they were very good. Prices were standard restaurant prices, $22-28 for a main, and $4-20 for starters and snacks. The portions weren’t huge but the quality of the food was good enough that this is good value. It’s closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but definitely worth visiting some other time in the week!More

Second visit but first time to dine, and it was delicious. Tacos full of flavour (Fish Taco for the win) and The Enchilada was a perfectly executed meal. Atmosphere is magical as it was later in the evening and choosing to sit outdoors washed through...the indoor outdoor atmosphere perfectly. The frozen Margaritas are divine and having the delightful Zoe taking care of us for our treat night out was extra special. It’s a win Libre! We’ll be back. Many thanks. Marya & MartyMore

The restaurant itself is lovely, vibrant decor and bright airy space and the menu looked great too, plus helpful staff.... then the food came out and boy were we disappointed. Had a vege burrito which had chargrilled veges... so far so good... but it was...also stuffed with a vinegary slaw... so combination of it tasted like burnt vinegar... not very Mexican really...and not edible. None of the meal had the punchy flavours of authentic Mexican food. You can do better with a bit of ole el paso seasoning mix at home. Since when is vinegary coleslaw considered Mexican?....or edible?More

It all started really well, efficient booking system, email confirmation, arrived and seated quickly, drinks came out fast and were great. Great server. Should have gone home then really. Food that we ordered was very bland, mass produced and lacking in vibrancy and the freshness...you associate with Mexican food. It was sad. Over pureed guac looked like baby food, tasteless chipotle mayo, no pickled celery on the chicken. The chicken enchiladas, I searched for the feta to no avail and where was the side of rice and beans, we got an amalgamated muddle of stodgy beige, with a few sorry looking coriander leaves waving at us on top. On the plus side, the corn was ok and the beef tostarda was a good texture but lacks freshness. Mexican Inspired food is all this is, not real Mexican, save your money.More

Popped in for a casual drink and ended with a great experience. Brilliant range of really interesting drinks and excellent snack food. The premises are attractive and the seating must be the most comfortable in the city. The staff were terrific; friendly, helpful, efficient and...totally professional. Libre is now a must revisit.More

First time in this restaurant. Great to see Mexican restaurant in Palmerston North. Wonderful menu, great food, and friendly staff. A huge plus is having Brew Union beers. Fantastic to see a local restaurant supporting a local micro-brewery that is very high quality. Well done...Libre.More

First time at Libre. Very impressed with the food and the service. Covid definitely impacts with fewer people about, but that also benefits those who do venture out. Great heat in the food. Best Tacos in town. Paddock to plate dish was fabulous.

First time for everyone in our group of 7. The food was average & none if us left thinking about going back, zero wow factor to the food. Last year I dined at Westshore Napier Mexican restaurant, prices are similar but we left dreaming about...our next visit. As for bring given a tumbler to drink a really bad chardonnay from, that was the endMore
