Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got 4 sausages that were all shrivelled up, and small, 3 spring rolls that were well over cooked and falling apart because to fatty. The chips were all little bits. The only good think was the fish was nice. Would not go back.

Just arrived in Westport last night from a long drive and were too tired to eat out so we decided to get a takeaway food and how I wish we went out instead. The Egg fried rice drenched in dark soya and the Vegetables on rice is unrecognisable.. the white rice is not even cooked properly! Really?! Definitely not recommending this place.

Got a really simple, family-sized takeout from this place. The service was quick. The prices keen. The quantity, quality and tastiness of the food was good.

Shop has three entrances, one for Chinese takeaways, one for fish &chips, burgers etc and a third to sit down restaurant. We chose Chinese chicken chow mien and pork and fried rice. Both dishes reasonably priced and better quality than many many we had tried elsewhere in NZ.

Not spectacular, but sufficient to satisfy the appetite. A wide range of take away meal prepared well and served with a smile, in a clean a populare dinner.

Came here for a quick dinner. Had chicken and veg with noodles in oyster sauce as well as satay beef. Two soft drinks. The meals were a good size and very tasty. The decor is very dated and in need of a update and a clean. But it was okay to eat at. Recommended as nice Chinese.

Happy with my take away meal, which has a good balance of meal and vegetables. Sauce was a little salty. Quickly cooked. Steady stream of customers has to be a good sign.

Next to Buller Cafe and possibly the same outfit. Chinese and fish and chips, the finest in town, for sure

We have been to the Golden Horse every time we visit Westport. It never disappoints. The meal in the dining room is classic kiwiana. Love that we get whit bread with our fish and chips. Love the chilled glasses for drinks. Was just a great meal. Definitely recommend

Da Wandering Wabbits hit Westport after a long dwive, and were wather hungry. We asked a local to name a damn good chippie (being on the West Coast, we expected some fine fishy fare!). Without hesitation, the recommendation was for the Golden Horse Chinese Takeaway, 97 Palmerston St., in the northern quarter of Westport's main drag... First warning sign: its dine-in area was closed "until further notice" - not enough business perhaps? So we ordered to-go, and sat in the gwounds of the nearby theatre, anticipating fish-and-chips to remember...! Yeup, we WILL wemember it - for all da wong weasons. Dry chewy fish (without any discernable taste), under-cooked mussels and greasy chips that even the seagulls seemed hesitant to scavange. It was a meal left unfinished...and one that had wather unpleasant after-effects later that evening too...

Shop front and general presentation is pretty average but don't let that put you off. The Chinese takeaways are great. Excellent food and good value for money. Quick service as well

I've been coming to Westport for the last 40 + years ( I have family there). Always enjoyed the Golden Horse food, especially the whitebait patties in the dining room. The last visit, the quality of the fish n chips had gone down abit. Perhaps it was the 1000 people crammed into the shop waiting for their order on a cold night and clearly the shop was abit overwhelmed and that affected the quality. Eventually got the food and it was a wee bit greasy. I think it could've sat for a little bit longer after coming out of the fryer. That being said, I still enjoyed it and will go back on my next visit.

On the day we ordered the shop was crowded. I ordered sausages, a spring roll and chips. The chips and sausages were fine but the spring roll was not to my taste. It seemed to be one that had been bought in a bulk lot from a supplier. As It was so busy we had to wait a while. It was expensive and had small servings compared to my favourite Dunedin Chippie, Big Valley Takeaways. There was a dining room off the frying area but we didn't go in.

I have been going to Tonys since I was a child it's old school decor still the same. We had the garlic steamed prawns with a side of fried rice and fried vege and the delicious prawns which are deep fried and you eat the skin as well. Very good for 22 each main and then 4 dollars a side which are generous. Decor is old school don't dress up.. and maybe have a drink of some quality vino before u go because they are not about the wine list prawns or Peking duck recommended.
