Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went here to stay in our caravan & go fishing & this cafe was a totally incredible find. The coffee was organic & really tasty. We both drink black & were happy with it. There was a huge selection of home baking from biscuits to cakes & muffins & there was a huge amount of gluten free. He enjoyed a muffin & a west coast goat pie, which was great. Gluten free muffins were tasty & a variety was available. We did not use the pizza oven but it was thoroughly enjoyed by many daily. On the weekends there is also a food caravan operating in the evenings & it had fish & chips, burgers etc. This was also available gluten free & was outstanding. The queue / wait time could be up to an hour but it was so worth it. Just great fish chips & burgers that were extremely tasty.

This place is awesome!! Actually I could end here but some more details for my recommendation. We wanted to camp here initially one night and added one more because we fell in love with this place. After 3kms gravel road only 40 min from Westport you find the Cowshed directly at the beach. 30 NZD for 3 nights per person or 12 per night are very cheap. You have WiFi and a kitchen as well as showers (2 NZD extra) and laundry. You can make your own pizza in the stone oven for free or buy the pizza basis for 5 NZD for 2. The coffee is homemade like. the delicious muffins. From here you can start day tours to the charming creek walkway e.g. We highly recommend this awesome place. one sunset and you want to stay for ever here :)

We stayed at Gentle Annie and found the Cowshed on site. What a great wee place, laid back but with great food and great prices. Staff were friendly and helpful and it wa just a great experience. The cowshed is tucked 3km off the main road but well worth the diversion. Thanks guys it was great

We stopped over for a brunch and will return to sty over. The location, construction of buildings, character and people (? mainly woofers) serving all reminded us of Bali and Asia pack-packing travel many years ago...but most of which is now unfortunately gone. Good weather though is vital to enhance the experience.

Great place! We were the only ones there the night we went and we really enjoyed the character of the place the wood oven pizzas were amazing it is BYO so Im glad I happen to bring a bottle wine with me in the car. It is cash so be prepared. The chef was fabulous and friendly. My family really enjoyed our night and the kids were happy there was Wi-Fi and the fire was going inside. I would eat there again.

Beautiful, rustic-style café with amazing food, friendly service and best muffins on the westcoast (and even gluten free caramel slices)! There is plenty of space on the camping ground if you fall in love with the tasty food and excellent coffee and choose to stay a night on the beautiful location, directly between the beach, the Mokihinui River and the native rainforests on the steep mountains alongs the westcoast. There is just everything you need and so much to see! After a long day you can just sit down in the Cowshed, enjoy a fruity smoothie on hot days or a fresh made coffee on the more rainy and cold days and use the free Wi-Fi to update your latest travel reviews or holiday photos. Overall it's a really peaceful and nice place, to relax and get off the beaten track. Pure "westcoast-feeling" and nice weather. You definitely should make a stop here when you're on your way up to Karamea!

We stayed at Gentle Annie Camp over the last week and on site is this wonderful cafe/restaurant. It's a converted cowshed. Great character. Run by 2 lovely girls. They make all the food themselves - daily. Wide selection to choose from and not over priced. It's a 40 min drive north of Westport.Open 9am-9pm daily. Set in a beautiful garden that overlooks the sea. Definitely worth making the trip if you're out for a drive. It's cash only so do remember so do go prepared. Even better - stay at Gentle Annie and you have access all the time. You've got to give it a go.
