Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food was cooked nice, pity about the unpleasant lady behind the bar, no greetings, no smile just a hard stare on you. Made you feel very uncomfortable so really did not enjoy it there.

Called in for a beer and some food after finishing the Old Ghost Road. The owners were the rudest people I’ve met in a long while. Still don’t think they smiled. Food was good but don’t dare ask to change anything off the menu, what is listed is how it comes. The tavern it self is really nice, clean and tidy.

We had heard the Mokihinui Tavern was closed but on a tecent visit found that rumours of its demise were greatly exaggerated. Friendly locals, good beer and cheerfully produced bar meals as one would expect.

Great burgers and fish and chips, and the home-made chocolate biscuits are fantastic. A good find, and very close to the beach for an after dinner stroll.

While travelling along this coast this is a great place to rest and revive. We stopped for a coffee (which was very good) and as the cakes looked home made we decided to try one. It was delicious. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed and you can sit inside or el fresco. With the camping ground across the road and the beach and river a few hundred metres away this would make a great holiday spot.

Was there on Sunday night for a couple of drinks and the roast chicken dinner. The place was packed and they had live music - he was just bloody amazing, I could have stayed all night. The meal was very good value at $16each, good old kiwi roast dinner. The camp ground was full being labour weekend so made for a fun night. Will definitely be back.

Best Fish & Chips I've had !! Hosts incredible. For a real taste of "Kiwi Experience" the Old Boiler Cafe at Mokihinui Domain/Camping ground is a must visit. Walk the beautiful beach and watch the sun go down.

Loved this place, a find on our trip. At the back of pub, homemade goods, including cakes and muffins, all very fresh and tasty. Worth checking out. Top rating from our family

Really great bar + cafe, interior is lovely with interesting and quirky artwork on the wall. Pints were really reasonable priced and the pool table is free! The pub landlord is a great bloke and the locals we chatted to were a good laugh. We had a real nice evening here.

if you want your pub 'country' then this is the place to be. Full of locals who make you welcome from the moment you step through the door. A decent range of well kept beers will mean you won't be wanting to leave too early either.

This small tavern beside the beach and Mokihinui river mouth is the best country pub I have ever been too. Arrived there tonight for a beer and got asked if I wanted to stay for a boil up feed of just the best food made by locals and the pub people. Everyone so friendly and nice. Fantastic Wild West coast beach right beside the pub with whitebait and fishing. You will love this place for being real.

Excellent burgers, not too expensive, big, filling and tasty! Felt welcomed by the staff in this small, cosy, local's pub.
