Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were recommended this restaurant by a local resident. Apparently the Chinese owners have just recently taken it over.
The food was excellent- very authentic and large portions.
The wait staff were lovely and did their best to please.
Would highly recommend!

Stayed one night here on our way to Milford sound. Older style motel, reasonably priced. Lovely staff. Didn't eat at the restaurant as it was shut but there are plenty of options in town. Surprisingly Te Anau is a lot bigger than we expected. Motel is 2min drive from the lake and town.

Very basic and outdated room but very generous in size, feels like you are staying at your grandparents place really!

Stayed here one night too long. Decor is 40 years out of date and water in shower was lukewarm at best—the knob wouldn’t go past warm. Cleaning of room was poor—bug on bathroom vanity and hair in shower. The room was spacious, but I was cautious about touching anything. This was part of a group tour, so will tell company to find better accommodation in area.

Terribly outdated motel...feels like we’ve been transported back to the 80s/the shining. Glasses provided were filthy. For $150nz we have stayed in A LOT nicer places. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere

No extractor fan in bathroom which left room with water running down walls after a,shower, unable to use 2seater as it was facing away from TV and as hard as concrete. Small table and 2 chairs jammed between bed and wall - unusable. Very badly needs refurbishment - crockery would be at least 20 years old. This review pertains to Room 815.

We stayed in this hotel with my mum and after travelling around for few weeks this was the worst room of all. The carpet was disgusting, the bathroom full of hair (obviously not ours), the hairdryer was broken as well as the shower curtain, the bathroom ceiling full of dirt, blood on the sheets. We told the lady at the reception and showed her pictures when we checked out (really nice and helpful lady). She showed the picture to the manager and went to talk to him few times to let him know that we were really unhappy, he was just behind the reception and did not even talk to us, instead let the lady deal with the issue when it was definitely a manager's matter. For the price they charge for a night this is a shame. Would not recommend this place at all.

Our stay was part of our Topdeck tour. Simple but tidy. Lighting needs to be improved in some of the rooms. A quick walk down to the lake and to nearby restaurant. Friendly staff when we had group breakfast. Thanks for the stay.

Great place to stay with lovely service from the lady at the front desk. The only hiccup was that the washing machine was difficult to get a hold of as there is only one, and the cleaning staff have to use the same machine which we thought was a little odd. Everything else was great.

Picked this motel for pick up going doubtful sound. Very large rooms and en suite. Looks like refurbed carpets and bathroom which was nice. Bought some eggs from supermarket they were kind enough to boil them for me. Good value for money, walking distance to shops and lake

We stayed here one night while travelling across New Zealand and found it very clean and tidy. The large double room with bath was great and it has a themed feel with the rooms names after stores and laid out like a village. Quirky and fun

The Village Inn was comfortable enough, but I felt that the price was a bit high for what I got. If I had it to do over again, I would have probably opted for a cheaper option.

Clean, large room with Queen and single bed. The bed and pillows were comfy. Nice bathroom with separate toilet.. Shower over the bath. Plenty of bag racks and cupboard space. 2 single, very comfy lounge chairs. Loved the quirky village facade, although it could do with some freshening up. Within walking distance of town centre and booking offices for local attractions. We'd stay again, but at a cooler time of year as most New Zealand accommodation we stayed in didn't have air conditioning or fans.
