We ordered the venison and hare - both were delicious. Followed up with desserts - chocolate duo and a special of the day with fresh berries and cream. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely go back.
Making your way from the front gate to the back garden of the Redcliff is like walking the Routeburn track--the terrain and scenery vary greatly from beginning to end and you don't want to miss any of it. On a sunny Friday evening in January...there was a boisterous crowd of drinkers out front enjoying live music. Inside this character villa-turned-restaurant, the bar area has the sort of funky decor and rustic feel that every credible drinking establishment needs. From there it's into the posh, quiet, carpeted dining room, and then through to a lovely weather-protected patio to the garden, with more boisterous drinkers.
The food is wonderful, and the string of beef & lamb awards is well earned. A lot of creativity goes into the menu--especially with fresh vegetables, sauces and spcies. In fact, it's the kind of menu that makes it tough to choose and tempting to oggle the dishes that are being delivered to other tables. Save room for desert.More
This is a very homely and comfortable restaurant . It felt like a cross between fine dining and a Speights Ale House. The wine glasses aren’t fancy and there’s a condom machine in the bathroom, but the food was delicious and the service was fantastic....The wild hare was unbelievably tender and the venison was succulent. Highly recommend. Will definitely be going again.More
Loved everything about this place. The live music on the patio, the character cottage where diners eat. The backyard area for kids or the playground across the street handy until the food arrives. But the food is the main attraction, so delicious, a great variety...of unique choices and my son 10 yrs old said it was the best kids meal hes ever had, such a clever idea to offer a grazing style platter for the kids. Service was great. Top restaurant in Te Anau!More
Lovely setting, great ambience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic. Loved the goat cheese profiteroles, Blue Cod was delicious. Steak and lamb were good. Hare backstrap cooked perfectly. Veggies are grown locally and superb. Good drinks selection. Wonderful evening out.
We came over for some drinks and some snacks. Had seen the place from the outside and it looked cozy, the inside was just as cozy! To our surprised New Zealand cutes waitress was working at this place the night we happened to visit! She...just made sure we felt liked home and got everything we needed.
I have not mention the food yet...well let me tell you it was excellent! I will drive for a couple of hours again just to eat that Naam and pork belly wrap!More
So lucky that Mark of Cheeky Kiwi Travel told us about this place, which is obviously where the locals choose to hang out. Had a lovely happy hour, followed by amazing, premium dinner. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but it's a treat,...not just food!More
