Never, anywhere have I had better servers keeping the good wine flowing. But why oh why does an expensive restaurant need a full-blast overhead light over each table? To sell more sunglasses maybe? I should have ordered the venison or the rabbit, like the LonelyPlanet guys suggested. Instead, I ordered fish of the day - big mistake unless you're hungry... More

Very welcoming and attentive staff. We had the venison, which was superbly prepared and presented. Red wine choice was difficult to decide, but this restaurant comes to the rescue with a sample paddle of three reds. Probably best to book and a visit is highly recommended.

Attended this with family the night before running the Routeburn Classic race. Firstly the Hare croquettes should be compulsory eating for anyone passing through Te Anau, big flavours, generous sized portion, a great start. Around the table we had the venison, the vegetarian pastry option and the pulled pork gnocchi- all very happy. The style is very country, you would... More

My hare croquettes arrived looking like they had been left in a deep fried situation. Nothing like described. However, our other entree was devine. So we shared. Our Mains, in particular my Venison was to die for....cooked to perfection. The staff kindly acknowledged, the Un-eaten entree and adjusted the account without us asking. Sometimes people make mistakes....so I suggest if... More

Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived so we hung out on the porch with a glass of wine and watched the locals. We were seated in a few minutes, and our waitress helped us make good choices. I had a paua (abalone) pasta in a yummy sauce to start and my husband had a salad.I had venison and... More

The best meal we have had in new Zealand. The hare was sublime as was the venison. Don't miss this opportunity. Low key but wonderful.

We had the paua agnolotti and cured fish entree both excellent and different. Hare and Venison for mains both tender and tasty. The kids platter was the best kids meal we've had in NZ with raw carrot sticks and humous and soup and toast, cheese and Apple and wedges with just a couple of marshmallows. Overall awesome meal

We had a lovely meal here. The venison and steak were delicious and well presented. The setting is quite charming. Although the cottage was built in 1978, it looks like an old settlers cottage. Nice wine list which includes some Central Otago picks. Choose the Pinot Noir flight if you're unsure of which wine to have.

Our host of the BnB were we have stayed booked us here for dinner - it turned out to be an excellent choice. We have very much enjoyed the food and the service. The place is not too big and it has a nice ambiance.
