Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I walked in at late morning and although there was a queue, it moved quick fast. This is a small friendly cafe that has a family feel to it. Service was fast and good. There is limited seating indoor but there is also outdoor seating which was quite popular. I ordered the Chef's Special (toasted sourdough with mushroom, haloumi, basil pesto, grilled tomato, spinach and a poached egg) and a cappuccino (not many places ask if you want to have chocolate or cinnamon on top, but this one does). The food was simply delicious, and the cappuccino was very good. I really enjoyed my early lunch there. This is a good place to go for breakfast or a nice simple meal.

My partner and I had such lovely and friendly service from the staff here The blueberry muffin was one of the best I have ever had. It was large, very fresh and moist and was filled with blueberries. Definitely worth the money. I also ordered an iced latte which wasnt awful tasting but was served warm with only two ice cubes so had a little wait until it was more chilled. Apart from that it was nice. We were only after takeaway items so didn't really get to experience this cafe properly but good service and good food so would recommend

If you are ever passing through or staying overnight, you have to pop in and see if they are serving their Venison and mushroom pie. This thing was amazing! I would say I would have 2 but I was so full after 1 that I was contempt for most of the day. Beautiful and tender taste was to die for. Loved it!

Visited Sandfly Cafe for a coffee and to pick up some sandwiches and cake for a snack later in the day. Whole grain sandwiches were fresh and delicious, packed with beef or smoked chicken and a very generous amount of assorted salad. My husband wanted a slice of cake and chose the apple/berry cake which was also delicious and moist. As we were visiting from Auckland, the prices and food at this cafe was exceptional. The staff were friendly and accommodating and if you are visiting Te Anau, Sandfly Cafe should be your go to place.

We enjoyed two breakfasts at Sandfly and the food and coffee were delicious. Super friendly, efficient staff welcomed us very early one morning so she could fuel up before venturing into Milford Sound. Returning to TeAnau for a few days this was our go to foodie sop - perfect as so many other places were closed due to Covid-19.. Freshly basked and made cabinet food and a very good menu. Will definitely return.

We were recommended this very busy cafe and grabbed a takeaway coffee on the first occasion, which we enjoyed as we walked along the lake. The cafe was pumping and tables were at a premium on the beautiful day we visited on a weekend. There are popular tables outside and more inside, service was slick despite the queues, albeit food service was slower by the looks, but people happy to enjoy the glorious day. We popped back a couple of days later for more coffee and some smoked chicken wraps, also to take away for our lunch. Wraps were delicious and stuffed full of meat and fresh salad greens etc. Thoroughly recommend this cafe, it was busy even on a weekday, so find a seat and send someone else up to order and sit back and enjoy!

We visited this friendly little cafe before and after hiking the Kepler Track. Te Anau is a pleasant, bustling spot to visit and this cafe is a good place to have breakfast, brunch, lunch or an afternoon cuppa. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are well catered for. We would definitely recommend this place.

This cafe was recommended to us and it looked like we (4 adults with 2 kiddies and a baby) weren't going to get a seat but suddenly a table came free and we were fitted in. Despite the staff being very busy and people ordering take away coffees as well, we got our entire order in super quick time. Coffee great, nice hot pot of tea, kids loved their very cute fluffies and the Muesli Slice is extra good. We'll be back if we're ever in Te Anau again.

We popped in for breakfast, not expecting too much - the only reason we went in was we had a discount voucher. We were pleasantly surprised! We both had the Hash Brown stack and thoroughly enjoyed them. Simple, tasty cafe food. The only issue we had was one waitress who didn’t speak very good English and it was quite difficult to communicate, but we got there in the end (after a long discussion over a simple request). We enjoyed our breakfast so much we ended up getting a scone, wrap, bacon & egg pie and a cookie caramel slice to take away for our lunch - all of which were well worth it. We hope to be back if we visit Te Anau again.

A very popular cafe in the middle of town, so much so that after ordering getting a table is a bit of a cat fight. Finding a seat makes this a very agro experience which counteracts the desire of a relaxing outing. Steak sandwich was very tasty, output of food good, coffee average. This place wouldn’t survive in a larger town, but does well in Te Anau.

We recently had a casual lunch here with another couple during our stay in Te Anau and all 4 of us enjoyed our meals. I can't recall what the other 3 diners had but it was from the specials board and was a club sandwich or similar...all enjoyed it. I was awkward and substantially modified one of the menu items to suit what I wanted to eat at the time and this was no problem at all and the resulting meal was delicious. Has a nice outdoor area and is right in the middle of town.

Nice little place. Obviously popular. A great selection of really tasty brunch items and nice coffee. Some interesting little nooks and crannies for watching the world go by. The free WiFi was only for 15 mins which seemed a bit stingy.

Very strange place. I felt like I was in Asia! Tables are very small and chairs are crammed in under the table. I thought a mistake had been made as there were 3 chairs at a table I assumed was for 2 people but it was actually a 4 person table! Bathrooms are equally as small! The food was sub-par. Burnt bacon, undercooked hash browns, obviously they don’t employ an actual chef. Thankfully the coffee was ok. If I was to recommend this place to friends I would recommend it as a good place for a takeaway coffee. This seems to be what locals do as they bring in their keep cups for coffee.

The staff were very well organised despite the cafe being very busy. The staff were courteous and efficient. The decaf flat white in my takeaway cup and a soy cappuccino tasted excellent and cost $12.10.

It can be hard finding somewhere catering for vegos with added food allergies- this place had a really good range. It was super busy coping with the first long weekend out of Covid19 lockdown but the staff managed all of the restrictions really well. Fantastic coffee just finished it off beautifully!
