Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Expected a limited range at end of the day on a Sunday but they were able to offer exactly what we wanted. They were hot and delicious and so full of real filling not sauces. I got a Bacon and Chicken and it was chocka full of chunks of tasty chicken and slices of real bacon well worth the price.

So I read that these pies are the best in NZ. Well I knew my boys would love to try these. Would you believe pies 3 days in a row! At an average of $7 each they were a pricey snack for a family of 5 but us Aussies love our pies. My hubby thought the lamb and mint was pretty special, my youngest enjoyed the veggie pie, middle son thumbs up for chunky beef, eldest son chicken and bacon and myself the Thai chicken. I didn’t even mind one of my sons saying they were better than mine! Just be prepared to pay cash or NZ bank card.

We stopped in this town on our way to Milford Sound and were very interested in trying their venison pie ($7.50NZ). The pie crust held together well around the tender venison which was mild (not a bit gamey) with amazing gravy. There are a few outside tables or some nearby benches where you can enjoy your meal.

Flaky, tasty pastry and steak and ale pie (the daily special) was delicious. It was piping hot and had large chunks of high quality tender beef. Do yourself a favour if you are a family and get a large pack of hot chips to dip into that unctuous gravy.
High quality and quick especially if you are about to head off for an activity.

We arrived at the shop, purchased 4 pies for our trip to milford and were insanely disappointed in them, one of the 4 pies were okay and the other 3 all tasted like “eating a brown paper bag.” 3 out of 4 of us went hungry because the pies were gross. Probably won’t go back after this…

Highly recommend the stake and pepper pie. Very tasty and reasonably priced.
There are a variety of pies to select as well as sandwiches coffee soft drinks and sweets.
Good service went there twice in our three day stay in Te Anau

What another amazing find !!!! ,the constant line waiting to be served outside says it all. We tried both the meat and fruit pies , both are delicious. By far the best pies we eaten in New Zealand (and we’ve tried heaps in our many trips to the shaky islands)

It’s possible our taste buds were dulled by the previous people contacts in Te Anau (rude gesticulations from the info centre when asking where some free toilets were - sorry - we just didn’t have coins for the pay toilet) and then stopping locals walking their dog for directions (this town seems very unfriendly).
This may be the only bakery in Te Anau and that’s why they’re all so cranky :/
The pastry was very doughy and heavy and the fillings dull and flavourless. Service was pleasant - but reluctant to even stop and buy gas in Te Anau on our return trip.

Stumbled in to this place by chance, before a journey to Queenstown. Best pies we have had in NZ so far.
Had one lamb and mint, and one Steak. Both were excellent, nice light flakey pastry. With good chucks of meat. Lamb and mint had a nice balance with the mint flavor, steak had great gravy, that wasn't too rich.

This was the first place we came to after completing the Kepler Track. We ordered the Steak & Cheese, the Steak & Pepper and the Steak, Bacon & Mushroom to share between the two of us. The pies were so good we added on the Lamb & Mint, and the next morning we came back to get the Vegetable pie on our way out of Te Anau.
Service is so warm and friendly and the Miles Better Pies team even remembered our orders the next morning.

Best pie I’ve had in quite some time. Both pies were packed full of meat rather than gravy and both taste fantastic. The satay chicken was very good but the good old fashioned steak and cheese was an out the park knock out! With a thick moist pastry holding all together it’s a winner in my camp so I’ll be back to try another flavour when I’m back in town!

Ok, after 4 days of eating dehydrated food, to be fair anything freshly baked would have tasted pretty good but these pies would have tasted good after a 12 course degustation meal! I had the Steak Bacon and Mushroom pie, and it was so good that I then had the Lamb and Mint. I can't really say which was better but the others in our group who had other options all agreed that theirs were pretty special too. Great food; well done and thanks!

Enjoyed our pies here, plenty of meat and gravy in my venison pie and hubby's steak pie, pastry was flaky too. Having said that I wouldn't say they are the best pies we have had so only 4/5 for me. A good option if you're after a quick lunch but wouldn't go out of my way for one. Surprisingly decent cup of coffee too although hubby's mango smoothie was an 'interesting' flavour and not to his taste - may have been the coconut milk used in it.

Prior to leaving Te Anau and heading to Wanaka we ordered a pie each.
They have a great selection of flavours to choose from but not all were available.
There was a long line.
I ordered the satay chicken and my wife the lamb in mint sauce. They were delicious but could be improved if the pastry was more flaky.
