Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was thrilled to enjoy three dinner meals at the Fat Duck between walking three Great Walks based out of Te Anau. Two of these were with my friend who did the hikes with me and the last time on my own. We both enjoyed...the meal before our first hike so we rebooked for our return and were not disappointed. The food had lovely tasty flavours and portion sizes were balanced. I can recommend the Wild Fiordland Venison meal and my friend thought her Lamb meal was one of the best she had ever eaten. The staff were busy but efficient. I tried several other restaurants in Te Anau but enjoyed the Fat Duck the best. Thank you.More

The Fat Duck has a great reputation, and gets fully booked do best you reserve a table. As it was Easter we had a 15% surcharge. The waiters / waitresses were well I turned and had good recommendations. Starters great, mains superb. One of the...best dinners I’ve had in New Zealand. Prices slightly higher than average.More

Despite many places available they do not liked to serve more visitors for dinner. We were 8 people for dinner. Took a place near and saw more people served later

The menu choices were amazing as were proportion sizes. The delicate flavours were a mixture of sweet and savoury. The menu used the area to showcase local food also. It was extremely busy and one needs to book a time for dinner.

After being recommended to try this restaurant by our hiking guide, I tasted Lumina lamb for the first time. It was the best lamb I have ever tasted and would highly recommend it. We were lucky to get a table without booking and the only...downside was the overall speed of the meal….it felt rushed , though delicious.More

A great spot very accommodating staff with great knowledge of the menu and excellent service. We (4) turned up without a booking and were seated outside where the ordering is done electronically, we experienced some difficulty with the process so the waitress said don't worry...I will serve you. The service, drinks and meal were faultless. The waitress even went to the trouble of moving the shade umbrellas to ensure all customers in the area were covered as much as possible.More

We had a lovely meal here whilst visiting the area. Would recommend booking as it was very busy and I had booked several weeks ago. Great food, great wine, good atmosphere. Should I ever return to Te Anau then I won't hesitate to visit again.

First night in Te Anau and got a recommendation to try this place. Lucky I booked cause they were turning people away left right and centre. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. Probably on the expensive side but it was worth every...cent. It was good to have some veggies with dinner. I would recommend this place for a feed.More

Casual place with good food, nice wines and cocktails Host went out of his way to make sure we got seated on a busy night with no reservations. Bartender was a very nice young guy who recommended a house red which turned out to be...quite nice. Fish and chips/burger big portions well preparedMore

Very popular so booking is encouraged, lovely outdoor area or indoor seating. The food was great, possibly suffering a little with staff shortages (who isn’t) yet we still had an incredible night.

Enjoyed dinner here. Started with the duck wontons. They were tasty and had a good amount of duck. I had pasta with seafood. Good amount of seafood. The pasta was overcooked and mushy. I enjoyed it. My partner’s salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Nicely...done. Make sure to reserve in advance. This place is very popular and always fully booked.More

This place gets very good reviews, and there were no issues at all with service or the ambience inside the venue, so maybe I was just unlucky with the meal I selected. I went for the fish and chips special, with tempura batter and thrice-cooked...chips. Tempura batter is thin and crispy, and the batter on my fish was the opposite of that. The chips were more like soggy potato wedges. It was just not the standard you'd expect from a place with these reviews. On the plus side, I loved the Emersons Lager I had with my meal, and my wife was happy with her meal.More

We went here as a group for dinner, and could not change our reservation from 745 pm, indicating how popular it was on Friday night. All the meals from our group were delicious. I personally had duck wontons for entree and salmon for main meal....They also have a great range of craft beers and good NZ wines. Service was very good despite the restaurant being full. All our meals came out together, and plates were hot.More

After experiencing poor service too often recently, The Fat Duck was a delight. The food was excellent too, with tasty and well presented wild Fiordland venison and excellent sole as fish of the day. The sticky date pudding was a super dessert, and the sticky...dessert wine of the day went very well with it. Best of all was the prompt and pleasant service not just from our server but including the other members of the team who brought us our drinks and food. It’s a busy restaurant in the evening and the whole team work well together to accommodate as many guests as possible. It’s not fine dining, but we know fine dining restaurants that could learn a lot from experiencing excellence at the Fat Duck.More

We stumbled upon this place after a long hike. We arrived around 5:30. All the tables were already reserved. The hostess was very sweet and told us we could sit as long as we promised to leave by 6:45 when the table was reserved. Luckily...that also got us drinks at Happy hour which were 2 for one house beer and wine. Food was pretty good.More
