You can't beat a nice piece of blue cod, and I was looking forward to introducing my husband to the pleasures of it when beer battered, and served with tartare sauce. Erik's fillets were tiny, more like gurnard, and they were $10 a piece, which I thought was rather high for a fish 'n chippy. My fish did not taste as if it was that fresh, to be honest.The squid was very very nice, however I felt the meal was over priced for a basic take away.

We are pleased you loved our squid. Blue cod is a local delicacy and it is sustainably fished to avoid extinction, therefore it is very very expensive for us to buy and sell. Also just to let you know our batter is not beer battered. We offer a range of products to suit everyone's budget from a $ 10 meal deal for fish, chips and sauce through to blue cod at $10 a piece.

Most of the times I find fish and chips which are gluten free the fish is pan fried. This is one of the few spots I have found that serves battered gluten free fish and chips. They offer a couple of versions of fish as well. We really enjoyed are visit with Erik's.

Erik's provides a unique and extensive menu where everything is cooked from fresh and to order. All of the food items we tasted were delicious - some flavors old favorites and some new to our palette. Erik's special chips were cooked to perfection and the fried kiwi fruit is a must! You won't find that anywhere else. Highly recommend ordering your meal and then taking it down to Perky's Floating Bar down on the lake, where you can order a cool beverage to complement the tasty food!

I got the $10 dollar lunch special - Hoki and chips lunch deal with a portion of curry sauce. Total cost $13.50
The whole meal tasted like it was frozen and cooked in the oven.
I also was the only one at the truck and had to wait 5 minutes before my order was taken and then another 15 minutes for it too be cooked! The service wasn’t very good, I asked for it to take away and I didn’t get it wrapped in the white paper like I saw another person receive there meal in, it was just in a tray in a bag. I would not recommend or return.

We are really sorry you didn’t enjoy our $10 meal deal. A $10 meal deal comes with a piece of Hoki and a portion of chips, any sauces are additional. I can guarantee we deep fried every order fresh.
From the start till the packing it takes roughly 10 minutes to hand out an order, depending how busy it is and the size of the order.
We are sorry about the confusion about takeaway as we always pack everything in trays and paper bags, when people say takeaway, online or delivery orders are packed in newsprint or if people ask for newsprint.
We are sorry you had to wait 5 minutes for an order to be taken, we will followup with our team at our staff meeting to try and see why this happened. We will also check that staff double check how you would like your order packed.

Ordered a take away between 4 friends spent a fair amount of money on it but didn’t mind as heard good things, estimated time for pick up 6:55 arrived at 7pm due to bad traffic and no one there. Rang the bell for assistance and called the phone multiple times with no answer waited for a good 10 minutes and no answer. Finally got a call back to be told “oh we went to watch the fireworks ha ha ha be there in a minute” and hung up. Completely unacceptable food stone cold and very disappointed group of friends, fair enough there was an event on but that could be seen from the kiosk and someone should have been there to assist us.

We are sorry this happened I personally waited at the trailer until 7.05pm for you to arrive to pick up your order, as all the staff were watching the fireworks as this was a local event highlight for all of them after a very tough time. Your order was ready at 6.55pm and was then stored in a warming oven as no one was there to pick it up. I presumed 100% that you were watching the fireworks so would come after the fireworks to collect your order., so I popped out of the trailer to watch the fireworks. I am unable to understand how it could have possibly been cold, but we will check this procedure to ensure our keeping warm system is working 100%. Once again we apolgise for this . The atmosphere is great traditional Kiwi, this is where the compliment stops. The fish was grossly overcooked, overpriced, the hot chips were lukewarm and Greasey and as for the calamari it was overcooked and tough. If you are looking for a traditional Kiwi experience this is not the place. I can’t say anything positive.

I am very concerned about your review so I have messaged you to see when this was as it does not sound like the type of food we serve at all and as others customers see us. I see from your other reviews that you tend to be very tough when reviewing places with a large percentage of ,1,2 and 3 star reviews.
Our fish is all probed to ensure it is food safe and at the correct temperature for eating. I look forward to hearing from you and we will discuss this review at a team meeting to ensure this does not happen again

On-line reports rate this place highly but it is the second worse I’ve had. The fish was mushy and at $6.50 a piece over priced. We got food for 7 people ($80) and all were unhappy. The potato fritters were over cooked the rating of 2 is for the chips.

We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your food, we are concerned that the fish was mushy and think the only way this can happen is if you held it wrapped in paper for a long time before you ate it as our fish is always served in a crisp batter. Also you paid $11.42 a person for food which is good value for a meal anywhere in New Zealand especially in Queenstown where we have very high costs of running a business. Once again thank you for your review and we will discuss it at our team meeting to see where we can improve

After dinner at Flame, we have decided to try deep fried green kiwi fruit. We never had it before and I have to say it was very yummy.
We did take our number and since this place seems very popular,we have waited a bit unusually long, chatting with people in que,but all was worth it. We loved it.

Food was great as always but today (29th August, 2020, Saturday) the service I got from a female staff was ridiculous!! I was just asking for the rest of my order when I was rudely told to wait my turn when clearly she hadn’t given my whole meal. I waited with my hands full only to be ignored! I felt embarrassed and walked away as she began taking another customers order who came after me. I hope they train her better and teach her proper customer service and teach her how to finish serving one customer before jumping to the next. The other staff members are very nice but this particular staff member is really rude.

We have experienced Erik's fish and chips in Wanaka two years ago so were delighted to find them in Queenstown also. Everything they sell is gluten free. The battered fish was crisp and delicious. They are located near the waterfront of the lake so a perfect picnic tea.

Was out for a walk and lunch time rolled around and I thought mmmm fish and chips. So I remembered that I had walk past this place last night so I headed there. After having Erik's Fish and chips from Wanaka I was looking forward to lunch. On approach the shop was clean and well presented. The staff were friendly and acknowledged me quickly and asked what I would like. I ordered a piece of Hoki and Piece of Monk fish with some chips. I asked for a drink and it cost me all up $22. While it was cooking I was asked if I would like it wrapped in paper or in a box and bag. I prefer the box and bag especially if you are planning on walking while eating. It took about 10 minutes for it to be cooked and once cooked I walked to the lake side and started to eat. The 2 pieces of fish and chips were cooked purfectly with golden crisp batter and the chips were crispy on the out side and soft and fluffy in the inside. There was a good amount of chips to as ordered the medium box I think enough for 2 ppl as I had some left over for the birds. The piece of Hoki was awesome with great flavour but my only complaint was with the monk fish. I had never had Monk fish from a fish and chip shop before and knew it could be quite a bland flavoured fish and I did find it bland. Was cooked purfectly tho and was ok to eat just not a strong flavoured fish, better in a fish pie So all round I enjoyed my lunch and would definitely go back there the next time I'm close by

The worst Fish and Chips I have had, what normally cost me $30 at home cost me $60 here. Chips where oily with no salt, we couldn’t decide what was fish and what was chicken as both were tough and tasteless. As for the Hotdog I am still wondering what the hell it was! Dark brpwn grainy meat of some sort, certainly not natural, hell not even sure it was meat, one bite that I had to spit out. Sorry but do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

We provide a range of options to suit everyone’s budget from a $10 meal for fish and chips or $30 for a family meal.

We were tempted by the good reviews this place has so risked getting a dozen oysters. At $3.70 each we assumed they would be fresh but they had definitely been frozen & were not the plump juicy oysters we were expecting but small shrivelled & slightly rubbery. The chips were ok. So disappointed!

We are really sorry you didn’t enjoy our Bluff oysters. Unfortunately, the Bluff oyster season is coming to an end which means we're not always getting Fresh oysters in. If we cannot offer Fresh oysters that day, we offer this season frozen oysters. Our staff are instructed to inform the customer that the oysters are not fresh when serving them. Fish was fresh and batter crispy. Battered red onion looked terrible but tasted SO good. Overall a good product especially as was delivery. One constructive comment, punch holes in the paper wrapping to let steam out - helps keep batter crispy.

This was a great find and although it is in a small side street, it really is close to the main streets of Queenstown. Extensive menu and very friendly staff. The fish we had was great and because the batter was light, you could actually taste the fish. Decent serve of beautifully cooked chips too, crisp on the outside and soft in the middle plus they have a good selection of sauces. It was busy when we arrived but the wait (not too long) was worth it and so as it is so close to the lake, we sat on waterfront eating our F&C overlooking the lake.
