This central Queenstown cafe has a big reputation, but like most eateries in the township itself, struggles to cope with the crowds and to justify the long line-ups. Dual entry from both lakeside and directly off the shopping street make it a bit of a thoroughfare, and even if you get a table, there can be people standing alongside waiting for tables or (in winter), cold air blowing over you each time someone enters or exits. It’s the visually appealing cabinet offerings which are the real drawcard here; when advised they will need to wait for a table, customers often choose to purchase food for takeout. Other items like the cafe muesli are attractively packaged for purchase and would make a good gift. The team of foreign staff do a good job of managing the crowds and demand, and when you are seated and have ordered (no table service so you still need to line up to order), food and drinks come out in good time. As a big fan of breakfast, I can say that the sourdough toast here is delicious - quality bread. The coffee beans are Allpress and the cups and mugs Acme. If you are a long black drinker, a warning that this is a cafe which serves their long blacks as short blacks with hot water on the side. But if you specifically request a standard long black they will happily oblige. We appreciated the free sparkling water; there are also two toilets for customers. At a quieter time (if there are such times in this busy tourist town), this would be a great place to relax.

Food was good quality for the price paid with lots of menu options as well as new, fresh baked goods on display. Service can be a bit slow; needed to keep asking some of the staff repeatedly to get a table, or have it cleaned. Overall, a nice spot for breakfast or brunch.

Don’t be put off by the queues waiting for a table as the staff manage this well. A 5-10 minute wait is well worth it for food that tastes even better than it looks! Whether a couple, family or larger group, this local favourite caters for all. The children’s menu has a number of healthy choices and the servings are huge! Adults are totally spoiled - no matter if you have a sweet or savoury tooth. While holidaying here, we didn’t eat anywhere else for breakfast/brunch!

The Cafe is a lovely place in a great location and the staff were friendly. Despite the appearance and sound of the food we thought it was fairly average on flavour and quite pricey compared to other places in town. One of us had the soup (bit salty) of the day which came with one thin slice of toast - just give us a hunk of your 'homemade sourdough'! I ordered more toast which was $8 for three slices and some jam.

On a cold, rainy day this cafe attracted a real crowd with a line of people waiting. They have a sensible system - you can order your food but they will not trigger the order until you get a table. We had the soup of the day which was divine. And tasted one of their muffins - delicious. Well worth a visit.

I have been here several times over the years and been consistently disappointed with the service. Yes, the place is quirky, the food choices are good and the quality excellent. In fact, for breakfast, it’s probably one of the top two places in Queenstown. But the service is just awful. You queue to order and pay and in the narrowest part of the café which has exits on both sides. So there are people all pushing past each other, you don’t know who is in the queue and who isn’t and it just becomes chaos. Then there is the excessively long menu and an abundance of cabinet food to choose from. So ordering is far from quick. Then it takes an age to come - we’re talking 25 minutes for a basic coffee. If you just want coffee, you queue for so long to order and then you have to wait again, that it is just not worth it. Then there are the staff. Some are bubbly and friendly. Others are surly, don’t make eye contact and can’t be bothered. Today I asked one of them if there was a quicker way of ordering if you only want a coffee. She helpfully came to my table but then I still faced 25 minutes waiting for it to arrive and another 15 minutes waiting to pay while one such surly woman tip-tapped away on an iPad, one was stood round chatting to another one making coffee and one seemed to be juicing forever. That left two others literally running round the café. Do yourself a favour and go to Bespoke Kitchen instead. It may be uphill but the breakfasts and coffee are just as good and the people trip over themselves to be helpful.

Friends had recommended going here for breakfast. I went and there was a medium queue to order. It moved very slowly and it took 15 minutes to get to the front. While in the queue, a member of staff came and allocated me to a table. On getting to the front of the queue, I was then told it would take 25-30 minutes to get food. It would have been good to have been told this when I was in the queue rather than wasting 15 minutes. I left. I think the attitude here is that they know they don't have regulars, and if they annoy some customers, it doesn't matter as they won't be back anyway.

I have been here to the Vudu Cafe & Larder a few times over the past year or so. The service from my waitress was great and she was very helpful with reserving a table whilst I was in the queue for service. I ordered one of my favourites ..... Eggs Benedict but was really disappointed. Small portion with a tiny few bits of greenery two eggs on a piece of very average toast ! Not what I’d expected from such a cafe. There’s so much variety in Queenstown to choose from I think the meals from the menu need to step up their game. The cabinet food seems better but I chose to order from the menu. Disappointed customer visiting Queenstown 😘

We ordered a salmon salad roll and a large sausage roll. These were served at our table presented nicely, but sadly the salmon in the very hard roll had a large amount of raw onion mixed through. We spoke to a waitress who suggested that the ingredients in the roll were written in the description this was checked but no mention of onion. The manager said it was not possible to put all ingredients in the description of the food. This is not good enough particularly with onion, nuts etc. The manager suggested looking for something without onions in. This was declined. A very disappointed couple.

I visited here twice during our trip to Queenstown. Once for a coffee and desert and returned for breakfast. They have plenty of sweet treats for someone that is gluten free and they also offer gluten free bread. I went with their breakfast hash with cauliflower and kumara, I’d highly recommend! Also, maybe the best coffee of our month long trip to NZ.

Great place for breakfast but can get very busy. Situated close to the waterfront, this double fronted cafe has a great selection of counter and menu foods. We went for brunch and although it was busy and the queue seemed long, the wait staff managed things very well and kept the the line moving. Tables work by ordering at the counter and then asking to be seated. There is an outside area as well as upstairs. We got sourdough toast - nice - a sweet brioche and an orange/paprika scone with coffees. $37 for 3. Delivery was the quick, the European wait team were in good form if somewhat harried from the morning already. This place does do all manner of gluten free and vegan foods but you’re best to come in and see for yourself. Recommend but be patient - all Queenstown in high season is brutally busy, so make time and suck it up

Breakfast menu in the Vudu cafe is great. Order inside at the bar and wait at your table for your order. Eggs Benedict with salmon are highly recommended- come with freshly grilled salmon. Perfect to sit outside on a sunny day.

let me start this off by saying i am so obsessed with the food here. aside from the super food jar which was super disappointing, everything i’ve tried has been amazing (rawreo, mushrooms eggs benedict, vegetable hash, prepared salads, etc.)! however i will never understand their service. they will never let you swap anything - today for example i wanted the special which had chorizo, and as a vegetarian wanted to swap it for halloumi. they don’t do swaps, so if i wanted to do that would’ve had to pay for the full price of the dish (even without the chorizo which must make up a lot of the cost of the dish so that’s silly) and then add the price of the side of halloumi. it just doesn’t make sense to me and isn’t accommodating to dietary needs or picky eaters.

Vudu has always had great food, which has meant it could expand over the years, while still keeping its charm & value. The staff are great and the food, fabulous. There can be a wait on food and the food is $$ price range.

I was recommended by several people to visit this place when I was in Queenstown, but the food did not live up to the hype. It was overpriced and there were small portions, and it was one of the least appetising meals I had in Queenstown. The smoothies were average, breakfasts such as muesli were nothing special, but the scones were pretty decent. That being said, the frittata I ordered had two separate hairs cooked into it, which was pretty gross. Bottom line: there are plenty of better places to eat than here!
