We loved the food here, delicious and reminded us of classic white tablecloth fine dining back in the UK. Our waitress (so sorry we forgot your name, you're British too!) was absolutely charming. The male waiters were a little too similar to old school white...tablecloth dining had a slightly judgy air, which made us feel a little out of place despite us dressing nicely and having good manners but this was saved by lively, friendly interactions with the waitress :)More

We did the full degustation & wine match for birthday celebrations. The Bunker is right up there with the very best in either Auckland or Wellington. Big savoury flavours and more subtle dishes mixed up really well, varied and interesting menu all from the Sth...Island, superbly cooked and presented. Excellent front of house staff who know their stuff. Probably the best pampered 3 hours we've spent in a restaurant for many a year. A real shame that we were too stuffed full and happy to squeeze in a cocktail upstairs - maybe next time. And there WILL be a next time. About the only issue I can find is it's initially a puzzle as to how to get inside - probably scared the bejesus out of the diners at the table next to the door (which isn't a door!?). Probably the red carpet next to the door should have given it away, but I can't just give them 100%...99% will have to do. Citron (Wellington - now sadly gone) & The Grove (Auckland) - The Bunker gives them a serious run for their money.More

Superlatives get a bit boring describing our experience.... Wonderful service, from the pre dinner cocktails upstairs to the great servers. Perfect food in the degustation (hare 👍🏼) matched brilliantly with the wine and the ambience and feel of the place is really special. Thank you...so much for an outstanding evening.More

This is a hidden gem just off the main streets. The food was excellent and the service was superb. Not the cheapest wine in town but still a great overall experience

Was encouraged to come in despite my being coeliac and eating no red meat. But when there the waiter became overwhelmed by the many restrictions for me on nearly all the dishes. I made a choice from what he said But then another waiter took...over explaining that he previous waiter just couldn’t cope.😳 We nearly left But the second waiter said he had spoken to the chef And from what I had wanted the shef came up with a great plan and I had a Paua and mushroom Ragout with a kingfish foam and shredded greens - it was divine!!! So they worked it out! How to accomodate a coeliac who cannot be fobbed off with a deep fried offering. They made sure it was coeliac safe as well as what I actually wanted!!! Good on the Bunker!! I highly recommend!More

The food and service sets this restaurant above many of the other places in town. An interesting introduction to Bunker as they advertise it as behind a rustic old wooden door. The door we found and we knocked and bashed it heavily until a well...dressed waiter came out rescued us and brought us through a newer door into the restaurant. We did follow the instructions and other diners fell into the same trap. We enjoyed the Taste of the South degustation menu with matching wines and what a wonderful choice. You get all the interesting food that other restaurants of this class do not offer such as the combination of selected seafoods, wild boar, abalone, hare as well as snapper and lamb loin. there was also a good take on the desert meringue and a nice variety of cheeses were offered. A very good selection of local wines were on offer. A very homely place with a decent fire going. Quite romantic for those that wish to have a cosy night out. Thoroughly enjoyable experience!More

Definitely. Likely the best in QT. I'd book early - it's relatively small, and I'd be surprised if it's not booked up pretty early and anyone doing the degustation is going to be there for 2 or 3 hrs - meaning not a big... More

I wore black jeans when I went and I was fine, most other diners were in the same nice casual wear. If you're someone who gets warm easily just be wary, they do have a wood-burning fireplace going (at least when I went) and... More
