About
The Bathhouse restaurant is a historical gem from 1911; its regal crown-like architecture is like nothing else in Queenstown. You’ll find us right on the beach along Marine Parade, with a sunny deck overlooking Lake Wakatipu and a nearby playground so you can keep any eye on the kids while you relax. A cosy fire will keep you toasty inside in Winter as you sip on hot Mt Rosa mulled wine, or cool down with a crisp local wine or beer in Summer (before you take a dip in the lake?!). We’re open for breakfast, fresh scones, lunch, coffee (including takeaway), and sharing platters and diner

It is very difficult to find cafes in Queenstown. A definite shortage of decent coffee shops. We are from Kerikeri in Norhland where around the main street alone there are 5 very good cafes.
We stumbled on the Bathouse on the way to the wonderful Queenstown gardens.
A visually appealing exterior resembling a conservatory the building was opened in 1912 to commemorate the coronation of King George Vth, hence the crown on the top. It was used as a changing room and childrens play area back in the day.
After it fell into disrepair it was thankfully restored to its former glory (No thanks to Queenstown council, who wanted to demolish it!) It is really a restaurant and we just wanted coffee which was no problem. The location is right on the lakefront with views from inside, and there is also outside seating.
The staff are young and friendly and the chef can be seen working in the open kitchen.
The coffee was good, strong and hot.

Special spot by the lake. Great charm (including gas fire to warm the soul) for breakfast. We arrived on opening at 9am and the place was full within 10 mins. Hearty breakfast roast potatoes in the Bathhouse breakie were great and good coffee. Pancakes a hit as well

We stumbled across The Bathhouse, having decided we needed sustenance before embarking on a leisurely walk around Queenstown Gardens. Our breakfast\brunch hit the spot precisely, The seafood chowder was tasty and sustaining, complemented by home-made bread. The oven-baked camembert was equally tasty and came with a generous selections of breads and jams/chutney.
The service was friendly and efficient, and the waterfront location afforded stunning views of the lake and surrounding hills.

Went here for my birthday lunch with my partner - very disappointing. Unfriendly staff from the moment we arrived, delayed service, food was poor and flavourless ($12 for about 3 cold potatoes!)
One staff member serving us also was not wearing a mask. Never asked how the food was, only abrupt interactions with staff who cleared (our hardly touched) bowls of food away.
Disappointing and would not recommend. Such a beautiful location and a shame as it could have been so beautiful.
(Understand people can have bad days but this was all the staff).

Poached eggs with bacon etc ... Large servings and gluten free toast available (which I didn't have). The service was friendly and reasonably prompt. I think it was a little dearer than I would have expected. $21 for the breakfast. $6 for a flat white. Would I go back? Probably.

In searching for places for my Grandmothers 80th family luncheon I was told by many I could not go past The Bathhouse and what a treat we were in for! They gladly accomodated us overlooking the beautiful lake Wakatipu ( this place is just metres from the waters edge ) and the staff were more than accomodating even after one of our group was running late. I was told I must try the Seafood Chowder by one of the locals and it was by far the best Seafood Chowder i have ever had ( and i have had a few ). Our server Kylie was amazing she organized my Grandmothers cake to be brought out on que and all the staff joined us in singing her a happy birthday. This place is a must visit when in Queenstown, great service, great menu and a great selection of drinks all while perched on the waters edge, you cant go wrong!

3 of us had lunch last Friday and it was so great that the Veuve was properly chilled. Lamb hotpot delicious (they'd run out of the pies as a special), as was the winter salad bowl and oven baked camembert. Great staff and beautiful setting.

While walking along Marine Parade in Queenstown, we discovered this attractive little cafe on the waterfront. It is literally on the beach, with outstanding views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables, whether you sit indoors or out. The service is very good and so is the food, especially the seafood chowder.

I visited the bathhouse with some friends a few weeks ago and was not disappointed. We were greeted at the door by a lovely girl. Our coffee orders were taken right away and we were shown to a beach table! The views were stunning. I had the pancakes with bacon and they were delicious. Food came out very quick despite it being relatively busy inside and out. Cannot complain about this establishment. Great service, great food and views! I’ll definitely be back! Maybe for a bottle of champagne next time.

Stunning location - that's as far as my compliments go for this place. Such a shame, it promises much but delivers very little. The prices are high end but the service and experience is below par. We had breakfast here. The wait for food and even drinks was ridiculous, a good half hour wait for scrambled egg on toast and a bacon butty. The scrambled egg was $24 for 1 small slice of bread and some egg served on a chipped plate. The tea came in a pot designed for tea leaves but was actually just a teabag. The 'regular' size coffee was tiny (thankfully as it happened because it was very bitter).
I didn't see one member of staff smile the whole time I was in there. They were overstretched and the stress showed in the service. I collected my own food from the pass having watched another customer's poached eggs sit for ages waiting for the wait staff to respond to the kitchen's unanswered calls for service.

It would be hard to beat the location, and the brilliant way the old bath house has been converted to a great eating-out venue. Food and coffee were excellent albeit a little on the expensive side. A bonus to watch the Earnslaw ferry glide across the lake and berth, from our table.

Visited here in Jan 2023 for my husbands birthday lunch. I understand there is a lack of staff worldwide however the service here was very poor. Server didn't have any knowledge about the food or really what she was doing. Many items not available from menu and what we did receive was lackluster. The server disappeared half way through our meal. Was her shift over? Did she just walk out? Who knows. We waited for someone else to take our order for dessert but after 20 mins wait with no one taking any notice of us, we paid (after waiting at the counter to get some attention) and left. The place is under new management with a new menu but is very disappointing.

What a wonderful find - we stumbled upon this classic bathhouse cafe (even has a crown on top!) and could not resist it. Sit outside if you can. Food was good; it looked like their baked goods should be explored (we were too stuffed by then)

We came upon The Bathhouse Cafe by chance and so glad we did. Small area but mighty views of the lake, the food was next level. Staff friendly and chef amazing. The bread was still warm and our seafood chowder was the best I have ever tasted. The beef burger and hotpot are also really good choices. The mulled wine is also recommended. I only wish we had found you earlier and not on our last day.
