Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Exchange was recommended for breakfast, and since my wife and I are early risers we were looking for a restaurant that opened early. The Exchange opens at 7 a.m. and is easy to find in the tourist district. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to the table by waitstaff, as seems to be typical in many New Zealand restaurants for breakfast. The coffee arrived quickly and Americano coffee was available. The food arrived shortly thereafter and was very attractively presented. I ordered the waffles and bacon, sticking to a menu item I recognized. The breakfast tasted very good and was filling. We ended up at the Exchange for breakfast both days we were in Queenstown.

Came here after hearing our friends had gone the day before. My partner and I both ordered the Big Breakfast. I also had a large flat white with coconut milk and my partner had an iced Americano with cream. The coffees were nice and the food was tasty! The place was pretty busy but we had friendly, prompt service. Definitely worth a try!

Fantastic coffee, great choice of teas, and the toasted sandwiches were not only delicious but great value for money. Packed with bacon and nice relish and plenty of stringy cheese made for a yummy snack. Which when washed down with a tea and scrummy caramac slice made for a nice reasonably price lunch.

Unfortunately the Asian girl who served me wasn’t at all very friendly . I think she needs a bit of training in customer service . I ordered a Bloody Mary and a baguette with cheese pesto and tomato toasted. Unfortunately the baguette was over toasted so it was tough as hell and hard to chew and get it to break off in your mouth and the Bloody Mary come served in such a large milkshake glass that it just tasted like plain tomato juice I honestly could not tell it had any alcohol in it. Which on its own like that I don’t like. I didn’t want to complain about both as I couldn’t see that going well ( fortunately I didn’t because the cold reception I got when I mentioned the drink issue was not a happy one ) she looked extremely unhappy with me with a very displeased face when I politely said that with the cup being so big with so much tomato juice you can’t taste the alcohol. Honestly who can drink a milk shake glass of tomato juice?! The glass would need to be thinner if they use a tall glass or a damn site more alcohol to taste a thing or simple resolution a shorter glass which I would have been happy with. She took it away with great displeasure saying she will speak to her manager and bough it back same annoyed face and said they added half a shot. Honestly wish they had repoured in a smaller glass and added it because the cups still so big it made no difference. Still not sure if there’s alcohol in it or not! Lol. Leaving with a bad vibe disappointed I spent nearly fifty dollars on something that’s too tough to eat and too unpleasant to drink. The attitude needs work. Won’t be back.

Came here based on the TA reviews expecting great things.... The service was nice enough and was relatively quick so nothing to complain about with that side of things. The food however was just average.... I had the scrambled eggs with the sausage - the eggs were dry and the sausage not cooked through (cold and pale on outside). Hubby had the pancakes and said they were nice but not great. Coffee was lovely. When paying $50 for brekkie for two I expect a bit more to be honest but maybe we just went on a bad morning.

Short walk from lake by council buildings and located near Athol street carpark is this urban chic cafe. Serving Burtons coffee which is very nice and I like strong coffee,. Smoked ham toastie is very good and cafe is open at 7.30 am for those on early start to the day. Outdoor seating is available.

We’ve visited a couple of times and find this place to be great food, and good coffee- and quick service. The eggs bene is super tasty, and the eggs on toast is huge! And my fav so far, the feijoa porridge is delicious- and beautifully presented. They also have a cabinet of yum food options too. And the Jaffa’s with the coffee is a great touch! Will be back!

Considering the high ratings we thought we would give it a go! My partner was not fussed with the available options as he wanted an omelet. He ordered Eggs Benedict which he enjoyed and I ordered the scrambled eggs. You sit down after arriving and after choosing your meal you go to the counter to order. Service was nice and meals arrived on time. Coffee's arrived late after meals and they apologised but all good as we know everyone is so short staffed. Coffee was lovely, meals were ok and we hadn't even finished and there was a staff member who removed my partners dishes when I had not finished and even removed mine without asking where there was no line up what so ever. Just probably bored or keen to clean up. Had to get up and ask for table water which is ok, but considering he was happy to remove my meal very promptly I would have expected that he came back. No biggie got up and asked the front desk for table water and it was self service. Although there were no big concern/s not sure if their rating is correct as I would have expected a bit more.

Hands down this is my favorite place in town to grab a coffee and a bite! Staff are always super welcoming upon arrival and both the food and drinks are fabulous. As someone who is celiac I really appreciate all of the gluten free options they have to offered. Lovely spot for locals and visitors alike.

This was by far the best brunch spot in Queenstown. Good service even though very busy and my Brioche French Toast with apple and plum was an amazing taste sensation. Kids meals were great for 2 picky eaters and decaf coffee was one of the best. Recommended for all age groups and cabinet food looked very appetizing.

Good gluten free selection. Have tried cabinet and menu items this holiday. Recommend the slices, the scones are apparently great (not gf), latte mug is excellent. Sausages are local and very tasty. Not right in the thick of tourist QTown so the prices are better and not as many people fiddling with unfamiliar currency and trying to go off menu.

The cafe was warm and moderately busy when we visited for a late lunch today. The staff were friendly and efficient. My coffee was good, my husband enjoyed his chai and our son loved his energy juice. The drinks menu is extensive. Our son had a Buddha board with the vegan feta swapped out for a dairy one. It looked delicious and he loved it. High praise from a teenage carnivore. I had a huge but pretty authentic cheese roll, and my husband had a bacon and egg roll - both from the cabinet. We shared a bowl of fries. We hope to return this week as there are lots of yummy choices on the menu and in the cabinet.

This is my go to cafe during my 2 week stay in Queenstown. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Coffee and cabinet food are delicious and I had the best french toast, the plate presentation was mouth watering. Good location with plenty of space and a choice of eating indoor or outdoor. Would thoroughly recommend it and will be definitely coming back on my return.
