We had reservations about going here but decided to take someones word for it and was not disappointed at all. To start with the service was brilliant on all accounts unlike other restaurants of this standard in Queenstown, which let themselves down. Then the food...More

We had a lovely evening here service and food was amazing. The cheese rolls were stunning and the Merino Lamb was cooked perfectly. Would definitely go back.

The night was drizzling cold but the staff reception warms the heart. The settings was elegant, food was great. Bluff oysters a must. The price was quite good for such wonderfully presented and unquestionably quality food.

Went to rata for lunch. We have tried several times to get into rata and was always unable as it is heavily booked. But being in off season we got in easily. Worth the perseverance food was all delicious and setting great.

Been twice once where we saw everyone eating this amazing looking beef Wellington only to find you had to preorder and a second time when we preordered it! Well worth it also loved the goats cheese profiteroles. Lesson preorder or prepare to be disappointed

One of the best dining experiences I've had in the world. As you walk in to Rata every sense is stimulated - they've brought nature inside with twigs/rocks/moss that reminds you of how local the produce is. The food is insanely delicious and you can...More

We had a lovely evening, with stunningly fresh and well presented food. Staff were well educated on wines and food. If we could have on complaint, would just be that the oysters weren’t chilled. Overall through, good was fantastic

Rata is always stunning. No trip to Queenstown is complete without indulging in a meal here. The stunning food is matched by the brilliant Front of house team. Dishes reflect the season and the region and children are welcomed and encouraged with their own menu...More

Staggeringly good food here. Delicate, beautiful, so professional. But bring a deep wallet if you like wine, you will struggle to get much under $100 a bottle (something we noticed elsewhere I. Queenstown - wine is pricey). We’d be back in a heartbeat. Excellent stuff!

I think it depends on your definition of kid-friendly. There were well behaved children on the night I visited. It is definitely not a place for children to run around, complain or tantrum- no kid's menu. It is more a grown... More

Rata is a collaboration between internationally recognised Michelin starred & New Zealand Masterchef judge, Josh Emett and highly regarded local restaurateur, Fleur Caulton. Their company, Mayfare Limited, is fast becoming synonymous in New Zealand for creating genuine dining experiences that are contemporary and inspired. 'Uniquely Southern', Rata takes inspiration from the Southern landscapes and everything that epitomises New Zealand. The decor uses influences from the Otago scenery mixed with modern industrial elements and reclaimed & repurposed vintage items to create a uniquely contemporary and welcoming dining room. Queenstown's cooler climate lends itself to Josh's love of slow cooked dishes and robust flavours, the discipline of his Michelin star background and that of Executive Chef Chris Scott who heads up the Rata kitchen, ensures elegant well-balanced and inspired cuisine that always showcases the best of regional and seasonal produce. The wine list proudly showcases wines from the Otago region and afar with a large selection of wines by the glass to give the diners variety, and match easily with the style of food. Rata is a relaxed eating-house with a neighbourhood feel, excellent service and exceptional food. Located discreetly away from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown, tucked alongside heritage buildings with several dining spaces perfect for lunch, dinner and casual grazing. Rata is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy award winning and genuine Southern hospitality.
