Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a stunning new restaurant situated in the brand new six star Carlin, located conveniently on the hill elevated with a stunning view over the lake and town. As long time locals, we are often asked where to dine. This is our new favorite,...we will entertain guests here with intimate service and stunning food. The menu alone will bring us back.More

Me and my girlfriend had a great time! Food was nice, service was great. Nice chilled atmosphere. Recommendation made by waiter on apple crumble, was spot on!

Really enjoyed our dinner at Oro. The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive, whilst the ambiance was delightful. But the undoubted star of the show was the food. From our amuse bouche, of a superb French Onion soup, through to our delicate panna cotta for...dessert, everything was superb. With a particular mention for the duo of lamb main course, which was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back for more.More

Our hotel recommended Oro as we wanted a fine dinning experience, while our grown children ate at Ferberger, We did not want to fight the crowd to eat a great burger standing up. A hotel guest the night before had raved about Oro. Luckily they...were able to work us in for an early reservation. We enjoyed it so much that we returned again with our family of 7 two nights later. Exceptional service and outstanding cuisine. Our server guided us to excellent wines to complement each persons dish. While we love French, Italian and California wines we knew nothing about New Zealand wines….. what a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend if you want fine dinningMore

The food was so delicious here! I ate here 3-4 times a week. I always look for consistency in a restaurant. Anyone can do a dish great once, but to replicate time and time again is a craft. The team at Oro Restaurant know what...they are doing! Some of the best food I have ever had. The lamb rack was the best I've ever had. I never needed a sauce because the essence of the lamb, cooked to perfection, was exquisite. Their venison was outstanding. The oysters were delicious especially with the sauces they provided. Even the sides of potatoes were yummy. The desserts were delicious and presented beautifully. At breakfast, which I don't eat much of, their rosemary hashbrowns were addictive! They have a vegan breakfast, too, which I greatly appreciated. You need to come and check out their breakfast! Along with the food you have the skilled mixologists (Chris and Timo) and talented sommelier (Eugene), which added another level to my dining experience. They had a great selection of cocktails, mocktails, and wine. Something not on the menu cocktail-wise, the bartenders would create something for me whether it was alcoholic or non-alcoholic. They even created some of my favorite classics; the Side Car and The Last Word. Now, I have to give a special shoutout to Eugene. The wines he chose for the restaurant were excellent. What was even better was the wines that were NOT on the list. Sssshhhh....they had a coravin special during dinner and a very private selection of high-end wines by the bottle, which were some of the best I've ever had. You have to come and experience the team of talented chefs, bartenders, and sommelier.More

A high class restaurant deserving of its rating with the menu and food. Service was a tad slow to start eg we did not get a menu for half an hour, and the first drink took a long time. Water glasses were not regularly topped...up, and we had to ask for this.More

This is a fine dining restaurant that is worth the walk up the hill from CBD. We had venison (said to be excellent) and fillet steak - very good but not rare as I had requested - which is the reason for 4 stars rather...than 5. Service was excellent and view suoerbMore

I’m travelling from UK and dine out regularly in London and Edinburgh and have to say thought that the meal with friends from Queenstown was excellent . Superb cuisine and Richard who seemed in charge and his team were all excellent - chap from Belarus....( Eugene ? ) particularly good too . I like to focus on the positive and would definitely return but , there were just a couple of minor observations - we carried our own drinks from Reception to the table ( hardly an issue but most top end restaurants would do that for you ) . The decor - bit bizarre & really not what one would expect , a tad bling and the large screens with views of area a bit annoying and no real art . I’d go so far as to say that the big screens were annoying and took away from emphasis which should be on the food which as I say - EXCELLENT !More

We dined at this fine dining restaurant located up a steep hill near central Queenstown. Views are nice. The chef has apparently worked with Gordon Ramsay. It’s located in the luxury Hotel Carlin. We received a complimentary starter. I had seafood soup and my wife...the mushroom soup as an entree. For mains I had 200g eye fillet and my wife the lamb rack. Meat was some of the softest and tenderest meat we have ever eaten. For desert we shared an apple crumble which was equally amazing. It was finished with a few pieces of complimentary chocolate. These little touches make the place special. Our male server a young Englishman was fantastic. Great place for a date night.More

I booked the restaurant based on a glowing review in Gourmet Traveller magazine. I wasnt led astray. Great food, excellent decor and attentive service. My Smoked salmon entre was fantastic and so nicely presented. My wife has sashimi and it was sooooo fresh! My main...of Venison was superb, someone in the kitchen has a deft touch with proteins! Wine list was excellent. One minor annoyance, the room was a bit warm, as the sun set that ceased to be a problem. Note, do not trust the cab drivers to know where it is!More

This is a relatively new restaurant, so I did not see it on TripAdvisor prior to my departure from the USA. While checking into my hotel, the receptionist suggested this restaurant as it was “new” and she had received “positive feedback”. As I always do,...I looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor. There were some negative reviews, but I decided to give the place a try anyway and I am glad I did. Those few negative reviews could not have been more wrong! First of all, the decor of the establishment is beautiful! The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. I am sorry that I don’t remember their names, but my waitress was from Brazil and she was spectacular. The sommelier, who did much more than is expected from a wine steward, was exceptional as well. He was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Oh yea - and the food was delicious! The menu trends more towards seafood (I knew this before making my reservation); however I am a beef person. There were several items on the menu that I had my eye on before I even arrived. I had the risotto as a starter, even though this was supposed to be a main. (Note - it really should be an appetizer as it would not have been enough food for a main). I had the eye file for my main. I am from Texas so I know good beef. Having eaten at amazing restaurants all over the world, I’d give this place a solid 9 - for atmosphere, friendly staff and the food. Bottom line – ignore any negative reviews, as those people were just having a bad dayMore

Don’t pass up an opportunity to dine at Oro, the food is wonderful, nicely presented and very very tasty. The bar man was wonderful and made up a cocktail based on what I told him i liked and the young Brazilian waitress was fantastic, very...friendly and they made our night, thank you both. The only hick up was in a nearly empty restaurant another couple was seated right beside us cramping our space. The older male staff member could have been more considerate and put them just one table over rather than so close. This was our wedding anniversary so that spoilt the ambience just a bit.More
