This small Indian restaurant is an absolute find. At a very reasonable price range for Queenstown, the food was full of great flavours and the service was first class. We had the murg chettinad and handi gosht, plus a vegetable dish and a naan; it was all divine. We definitely over-ordered. The portions were substantial and each dish came with rice, but it was all so good we finished it all! Highly recommended.

Best Indian Restaurant in Queenstown CBD, staff is very accommodating, if you are not sure of what to order, just ask the staff for their recommendations. (They know best) we had Nilgiri Murg, Murg Tikka Masala, Palak Paneer, Kashmiri Naan, Karara Kekda, Chicken Tikka cheese Kulcha, and Mango Lassi. All good, recommended by the wait staff. And the best thing, you can book them at First Table too and avail the 50% discount!

The food, the service and ambiance was fantastic. Our waiter offered recommendations to complement what we ordered and everything tasted delicious. We had a lovely view over the park and water area of Queenstown without the exorbitant prices. Highly recommend for a delicious Indian meal.

Fantastic food, we went there successive nights and ended up ordering the same food because it was so good. Highly recommend it, nice portion size, served hot, great service and very friendly staff. Recommend making reservations, we went in early spring season and it was pretty crowded…

The best Indian food we've had at a restaurant ever. The prices are a little higher than other places, but the quality of the food is well worth it for a special occasion. The entrees are excellent sizes, but the mains are also filling enough on their own. The menu has an amazing selection of dishes and is thoughtfully separated into vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Would eat here again.

We arrived in early afternoon just before they were going to close until the dinner hour, but they accommodated us. Food was good, although my lamb shank was a little on the tough side. I went with the shank because the waiter said the other lamb dishes were very spicy. I like to know spice is there, but not the dominant part of a dish. I think they are worth a try for anyone visiting Queenstown.

One of our best meals and best Indian food we’ve had both in NZ and in the states (where we’re from). We made the mistake of not making reservations and the earliest they could seat us was 9pm (we stopped in around 7:50p). We ordered their house specialty nilgiri murg and our always favorite murg tikka (butter chicken) and traditional naan. All were OUTSTANDING! The rice was wonderful as was the side sauce. If not for the great food, we’d probably not consider returning, it took exactly one hour for our food to arrive and noticed 4 other tables to be served in an hour as well (one family was there when we first inquired about seating and was just getting served when we arrived back at 9pm, our neighboring table was served appetizers when we sat down and their dinner arrived 1/2 hr later, and another couple that arrived 15 min. after we arrived was served at exactly 10:15pm. I would go for the food but be sure to make reservations and be prepared for a “leisurely” dinner. They also forgot to bring my husband’s beer and when he told them he didn’t want it any more, they brought it out anyway “on the house” which was a nice gesture, but would have been nice sipping on while waiting for dinner,

We were 4 friends this place. All really exited to try this place because it had such a high reviews We got drinks ,appetizer, main and desserts But our waiters is not very interested to be there , just makes us feel unwelcome. Like- why are you even here ? Maybe it’s to fancy place and we did not fit in ? After we had the main meal we even need to go and ask the dessert menu… I want to point out we are the only table it's not like they can blame it on being busy The menu is fun to ordering from The appetizer is alright we had some tacos and paneer For main my friend order mild but his food is so spicy he even could not finish it - but due to being no service he could not get any help. I had some chickens and I really like it ! Other melas was no hit. Overall I will not recommend people to go here. It’s kind of expensive and Queenstown have many good indian restaurants I am not sure why this one has so high up review Maybe we just had a bad night at this place?

The Taj Queenstown
Thank you for giving us your feedback, and we are really sorry to hear about your experience. As at Taj we always try to welcome our guest with a smile and get them seated in a way to make them feel comfortable . Regarding your review when I inquired with the staff and checked our systems I found out that you had a first table booking and everything was normal as usual . Staff also said that while taking order you asked if you can get 3 pieces of Taco instead of 2 which they did for you and they never said anything which would make you feel why are you even here or we are too fancy restaurant .They said that they even checked your starters and mains and everyone was fine no one complained about anything and when he was trying to clear your table your friend asked for the desert menu . I did brief my staff to be more polite and friendly in future taking your feedback positively . May be there has been a misunderstanding somewhere but still we always respect your feedbacks and try to improve ourselves .

Staff were attentive and efficient throughout our visit. The food was delicious and very well presented. Meal sizes were very generous. Great location too, with views over Queenstown Bay and surrounds. While a little more expensive than other Indian Restaurants we have dined at, it was money well spent for such a great experience. We will be back!

We ate here last night, having been here before on previous visits to Queenstown I had the Nilgiri Murg which was bland and had the worst cut of chicken with bones in it. Meant to be a house special. Maybe the chef had an off day... On the plus side Naan bread was OK but was overly oily The server/waitress was really good and done a fantastic job

Delicious and tasty paneer which chef kindly made with a butter sauce which was not on menu. Kashmiri naan was incredible, soft and fluffy and stuffed full of delicious coconut and fruit. Husband had venison which he enjoyed and said was very tender The restaurant is very small and tables really close together which makes for some silent eating. Would perhaps benefit from some music and a bit more space between tables to make it more comfortable. Otherwise was fantastic and would highly recommend

This venue was listed on our accom's recommended list so we gave it a go. Was expecting a larger restaurant but as it turned out the size allowed for a more attentive occasion. Certainly pleased we went, amazing service from all the staff, great thorough explanation of dishes, and the food was delicious. The wine list was well priced (not the usual 500% Queenstown mark-up!) and well thought out. Food pricing a bit up there, but well worth it. I cannot recommend any particular dish because, unlike a lot of similar restaurants, the menu hasn't been overly "Kiwi-ised" and I don't remember the names! But as stated, the team are very happy to explain the dishes. In town for 6 nights, ate out 4 of them and The Taj is our fave. Would definitely return.

Had a great dinner here a couple of years ago. Found my recent trip a bit disappointing. Was seated upstairs; felt quite isolated- no staff present until they brought food so ordering drinks etc was difficult. The broccoli starter was less than average with a bit of store-bought grated cheese thrown over the top. The curries were ok. But many Indian restaurants have improved dramatically in the last couple yrs and in my experience, The Taj has not kept up.

I was needing to make a booking for a group of 10 people for a work dinner and I had to call to make a number of adjustments and changes on the day of, and the gentleman I was speaking with was very helpful and accomodating despite them being very busy that evening. The service was second to none, and they ensured we always had drinks without us even needing to get their attention. We ordered a large array of items from the menu (not the set menu, just the standard mains and starters) and every single dish was exquisite. It can often be difficult entertaining and keeping a large group happy but everyone left with a full, satisfied belly and a big smile on their face. I will absolutely be back to this restaurant when I visit Queenstown next time, and couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. 10/10 on every aspect!

We ordered lamb cutlets as a starter (to share) followed by a scallop curry and a chicken curry as our mains. All were delicious with the lamb cutlets being a particular highlight. While the meals are not cheap, the quality and quantity is well worth the prices paid - the lamb cutlets were sized like a main and they were not stingy with the scallops either. Service was also excellent - friendly and attentive without being cloying. Some of the best Indian food we've had. Would definitely return as we are keen to try out more of the menu!
