Had an enjoyable night here celebrating a special occasion. The Steak Frites was cooked exactly how we’d enjoy it and a side of veggies (really good) enhanced a great meal - the staff were friendly and the location pretty good. Drinks prices seemed insane relative to meal costs which it is with a lot of restaurants - a let down these days to a dining experience. Overall worth a visit.

On a rainy Monday night in the alleged adventure capital of NZ we were shown to a table overlooking Lake Wakatipu, & that was the start of a very good evening. The food menu covered pretty much all the bases, & the wine was excellent, but service outshone both - wait staff were confident & knowledgeable, & comfortable chatting to patrons on what was a busy night. We each ate different meals, & enjoyed both; the highlight was the small but noticeable effort to mark the birthday of one of us!!

$5 for mustard!

Noa was our waitress and she was great. I had the chowder and my partner had steak. The chowder was delicious but I only had 2 prawns and 2 mussels with the white fish. My partner asked for some mustard, we were charged $5 for this! I have never been charged for mustard/ketchup/mayonnaise when requested with a meal, ever. I feel this should have been explained to us on ordering the mustard especially as this is a grille restaurant which serves a lot of meat for which mustard is a standard accompaniment! The wine is expensive, we bought a bottle for $115 which retails at $38 - a pretty big mark-up, better value for money wine options would have been appreciated. The restaurant location and decor is lovely and we did enjoy our meal. In Australia where we are from, and I believe the same is the case in NZ, tipping is not expected. So on paying Aus $258 for two meals, two sides, no starters or dessert, one cocktail, a bottle wine (and the mustard!), I was taken aback to be challenged by the person at the till as to what was wrong with the service as I wasn’t leaving a tip. It was an awkward moment, which put a dampener on the evening.

I am sorry to hear that you had a few unfortunate circumstances and a lack of communication during your time with us. We do indeed charge extra for a secondary sauce with all steaks, however we do include a range of sauces with each of the cuts. You are correct in thinking that tipping is never expected, and I am sorry to hear that this was questioned upon payment. I must only assume that the individual was looking for feedback on how we can improve our service and where we may have been lacking on that specific occasion. Good Food, but overall a failure

The food was good but it needs to be as starters were around $35.00 and my main, a steak was $55. Wine list was terribly expensive with most Pinot Noir being $180+. Living where we do in Queenstown you can get a good Pinot for $90 in most restaurants. First 3 wines around $120 were ordered and were not available but finally the 4th one was. 75% failure rate !!!! Honestly how hard is it to change a wine list or keep the wines on your list stocked ? The food was served very well and as stated was good. Then after sticking to a tacky wood table for 1/1/2 hours the bill was wrong with the $120.00 worth of incorrect charges and the final correct bill for 4 people was $644.00. ( with 2 bottles of wine ) And finally after many mistakes by server and others we were asked to" Cut me some slack, I have had a long day" ( at 6pm ) Well no, at $644 for a diner for four people it needs to be mostly mistake free. Overall as it was our recommendation it was embarrassing.

I’m deeply disappointed in the recent changes at Eichardt’s Grille. This has been our favorite steakhouse in NZ for the past six years, but the new menu is a letdown—reduced, uninspired, and far from what it used to be. The staff feels abrupt, and the quality of the steaks has declined significantly. They’ve emphasized that change is good, but in this case, it’s hard to agree. For $56, you get a steak and chips served in a tin cup with food wrapping—hardly what you’d expect at this price point. There’s only one side salad option, which is full of nuts and blue cheese, a problem for anyone with allergies. Plus, chips are the only side available, with no alternatives included with the main course. It’s sad to see such a drastic drop in standards. If you’re looking for a good steak, unfortunately, this is no longer the place. Compare the before and after below to see the decline for yourself. Such a shame.

Sorry but service was baaaad ! We sat down and ordered a bottle wine and we’re asked for food order -anyway 20 min later food arrived still no wine ( my pet peeve food before your drink) anyway I waited and didn’t eat thinking surely the wine will come -another 15 minutes and now 4 people have come to the table to ask again which wine I ordered -Eichardts -TRAIN your people ! You charge enough which I don’t care happy to pay but not for horrible service -there were some reviews saying this my bad for not listening

Huge disappointment. The highly praised "Grill" restaurant can not be recommended at all. While my reservation was reconfirmed when checking into the hotel, nobody knew about it in the restaurant. I ordered a Wagyu steak "medium rare". What i got was "medium well". I rejected it and after 20 minutes of waiting (the side dishes were cold by now) i got a new steak, which this time was "medium". Furthermore, the noise level in the restaurant is so high, that one can not talk to each other, you have to shout. Seems this is just another mediocre tourist spot....

Disappointed

I went here for dinner tonight and was with a group of five other mates. To be honest I was quite disappointed with the experience. I came here for a fine dining experience however what I received I could find at a pub. For the price I’ve paid the service was not good at all. I constantly had to ask for things such as asking for cutlery multiple times and didn’t get cutlery for about 10mins after my mains arrived when I up to the counter. After visiting this place I probably wouldn’t return even though the food was yum.

Need to do so much better. A real disappointment

I felt really let down by this place after reading so many great reviews. We were immediately welcomed and seated at our table which was in the far corner at the back of the restaurant, despite there being plenty of other free tables closer to the front. We thought maybe the other tables were reserved but in the 2 hours that we were there, the tables remained empty and we remained in the far corner near the service area. They certainly know how to make you feel welcomed. Our waiter was really good and was more than happy to chat and recommend a few dishes. We took him up on his recommendations and ordered the Brie to share which was amazing. Definitely the highlight. The rest of the food was pretty poor from then on. The two 200g wagyu eye fillet steaks that we ordered were completely different sizes and definitely not wagyu quality. It’s like one was 150g and the other 200g. It’s like the chefs couldn’t see that they didn’t look right. We made note of it to the staff and to the manager and they also mentioned the two different sizes but no offer of a replacement, which was a shame. The shoulder of lamb was probably the worse lamb shoulder I’ve eaten. Slow roasted lamb is supposed to fall apart and be tender. This lamb was over cooked, extremely fatty and very very dry. A real disappointment. If you’re going to be a Grill restaurant then you really need to do better with your meats. Great location, friendly waiter but food was a real let down and nothing like being shoved in a corner to make you feel welcome. If you read this and are wondering where to eat. For the price, eat elsewhere.

Lovely spot, but missing a few things

Eichardt's Grille is situated at Marine Parade, which is the most premium spot in Queenstown. Warm greeting upon arrival and seated almost immediate because we made a booking. Nice view and ambiance, I knew I was in for a treat. Lovely, attentive and chatty wait staff at Eichardt's Grille, which is always a nice bonus. Food was good, but felt it needed a bit more oomph for both the starter and main. We were celebrating our anniversary, but no mention of it from anyone or acknowledgment which was rather disappointing. Something I would expect from a fine dining restaurant at this price point given we particularly picked this restaurant to celebrate the event. I'd give it another opportunity next time I'm in town and would love to stay at the hotel too.

In a country with a lot of sheep, the server acted like one

Four people ordered a meal. Three meals arrived. The server never ordered the fourth. We never heard from the server again after she brought an "extra" wine for the fourth and sheepishly walked away. The fourth order didn't arrive for 45 minutes. The whole meal was a disappointment considering the lack of "service" and how long it took to get a steak done.

Lovely food, but rather expensive for what you get

Perfect spot to eat. With the window seats/table nice lookout over lake Wakatipu. The venison was very delicious and medium rare as it is supposed to be, however, the vegetables were so little, that was not worth the procent. The fries hot and good and enough for two. The main surprise came with the bill: the prices in the menu card (and on display outside) are without tax! So instead of a medium priced restaurant it turned out to be an expensive one. Also the water, for free everywhere you come in NZ, was 14 dollar without tax, that is!

The incredible views certainly are worth taking the extra time to enjoy. I am unsure on the confusion, but all of our prices do indeed include all taxes and should be as stated on our menu. All tap water is complimentary, however bottled mineral still and sparkling water is chargeable. We do have a paywave processing fee, and charge surcharges on public holidays. Arrogant and overpriced

Definitely not a high quality dining experience. Because the service was so slow it took us a while (40 mins) to figure out that our breakfast order had not been started. The wait staff were dishonest and said we would have our meal in 2 minutes, which turned into 15 minutes with still no sign of our order. We decided to leave hungry rather than waste any more time. Very disappointing experience. Arrogant and over priced.

Absolutely delicious meal in a great location.

Fantastic location. Waterfront over the lake and harbour with entertainers on the quayfront walkway. We had booked for 6.45 but arrived a little early - no problem. Welcomed warmly by Daniel who proceeded to provide an excellent service throughout the evening, advising on the menu, the wine and generally anything we needed to know. We had chosen the restaurant partly for the location and partly for the venison on the menu. Before we got to that we had delicious baked brie in prosciutto - beautifully cooked and presented. After that we had the most sumptuous venison I have tasted. My wife wasnt sure about the cabbage accompaniment but Daniel arranged for it to be served on the side and it turned out to complement the venison perfectly as did the chocolate jus and other elements of the dish . We had a side of rosemary roast potatoes that lived up to the rest of the meal. Daniel's wine recommendation was also spot on. I had brownie for dessert and was concerned I may have overdone it, but it turned out to be light and again exceptional. My one issue was when I paid, Jacob on the till asked if I would like to leave a gratuity for Daniel. I did so, adding it to the bill. However when I told Daniel I had done this it turns out all tips go into a pot. I would rather have given Daniel the cash since he had contributed so much to the evening, so that was disappointing not to be told that it didnt go to him directly.

Food was above average/service was WAY below average.

Food was good, but service was really bad. After I got my food, my waitress never came back or even checked if I got the right meal. I could have walked out and not even paid and no one would be the wiser. Had to ask the check-in host for another drink and the check. I would have ordered more if the waitress showed herself besides just taking my meal order.
