Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We went to the level one restaurant for dinner. Service was great! Three of us had the pork roast, it was not very hot and the pork was dry and chewy. Roast potatoes were not cooked enough! We let the staff know and I don’t...like complaining but when you go out for a meal at present with the current economic climate, I guess I expect a lot more than a below average meal.More

We had travelled down from Whangarei which is basically the length of the country! Our room was so tiny that it was almost impossible to walk down the sides of the bed, plus nowhere for our suitcases. We spoke to reception and were given the...key to another room - however the occupant was still in occupation (@ 4.00pm)! The lady at reception then sorted us another room which was just perfect with a nice view. The Kelvin is a pleasant hotel that is past its best and is in need of a total refresh - it is tired, and it shows. We stayed at the Langland Hotel on our following trip and it is totally new and modern - a complete contrast.More

Despite booking months in advance were not given adjoining rooms as requested, in fact were three floors apart. Was told it was 'out of their hands' to remedy this. One of the rooms did interconnect with another guest whose TV went on at 3.45am in...the morning so very little sleep. Key did not have a fob to get back in lift at night, was told they had a shortage of fobs. Yet in the end they managed to find another keyring for room with a fob on. No one seemed to want to take responsibility for our concerns. Not a good way to encourage visitors back.More

We stayed one night here and felt very welcome. The room was a great size and very comfortable. We also went to the restaurant for dinner. It was a very tasty meal or Roast Lamb and lots of roast vegetables and Roast Chicken Breast with...Thyme and lemon sauce and cauliflower crisps, mashed parsnip, brocollini and kale. Delicious. The service was excellent and food Devine. Highly recommend staying and having meal here.More

My partner and I stayed one night here only to wish we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the staff, our room was roomy and well appointed with the luxury of a separate w c from...the main bathroom. While there we had dinner in the restaurant which is within the hotel and once again found ourselves fill of nothing but praise for the meal and the welcome service. We would certainly stay there again and would recommend anyone wanting a good place to stay to do the same.More

The remote southern New Zealand city of Invercargill is undergoing a large scale renovation and replacement scheme of the down town buildings. One of the first apparently is the Kelvin Hotel. Rooms are all newly done, even elevators are state of the art Otis with...oral announcements of floors etc. the restaurants and bars are top notch. The only downside currently is that the entire block and adjacent blocks are undergoing either renovation or leveling. You may notice noise in your room until quitting time for the workers, also streets have detours but the hotel is relatively quiet inside. Stave was polite and helpful. There is free validated parking at the garage around the corner and your car is secure at night as the special hotel parking floor is locked up at night. Rates seem reasonable and the buffet breakfast in the morning is superb.More

Went with a group recently. All came away feeling that we had experienced a top notch meal and service that could not be faulted. Seafood chowder was right up there with the best. Mains were excellent- quantity and quality with great presentation. Desserts were outstanding....This may seem over the top when compared to some reviews but in all honesty the group of us all felt that Level One has improved significantly over the last year or so. Well done. We will be back !!More
