Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Freshly made pizzas! One of the best spots in Dunedin. Reasonably priced too. The garlic bread is fire!

Poppa's is a Dunedin institution. The pizzas are good, but sitting inside and eating is rather basic and afterwards all my clothes were smelling of the cooking. A strong extractor fan is urgently needed !

Seriously ? You’re a quality pizza outlet? $42 for 2 burnt pizzas and an attempt at a garlic bread with Parmesan dust sprayed on it - why? I’d suggest a root and branch review of your flavours , raw materials and offerings - even if...they hadn’t been burned , they were lacking in flavour and class - literally chucked together - honestly I should have just gone to Dominoes. I don’t normally give reviews as harsh as this but at your price point this is unacceptableMore

Would have been better off buying a frozen pizza from the supermarket, would have been a fraction of the cost and tasted more interesting!

More expensive than Pizza Hut, et al, and worth every cent! Great tasting and well cooked. Service wasn't effusive but did their job. Parking wasn't easy, but worth the effort.

We were caught with a very rainy day on our visit to Dunedin so we spent a day at the Museum. The museum cafe was jammed full even before 12 so we grabbed the umbrellas and headed out towards Poppa's Pizzeria because it showed up...as nearby on google maps! The kids had a lunch pizza each and we shared a pizza for 2. Great options for toppings. Drinks available including water. Service was good (although we were the only customers because the rest of the museum visitors hadn't found this place yet). Cozy wooden bench seats and tables, nice relaxed, social atmosphere. Service was ok, staff could have been a little more welcoming initially although they were more than happy to accommodate any requests we made.More

Tried their lunch pizza, which is a modest serving size for a person, but can also be supplemented with there amazing garlic bread or other side. Might be crowded at times with university students.

Decently priced pizzas, definitely won't break the bank, but also won't be considered cheap compared to Pizza hut and Domino's. Selection is plenty and they're all well cooked not sure what kind of oven but very smokey in taste which is nice, though be wary...of smelling a bit smokey should you stay a while or even tearing up.More

Pizza was decent, but we didn’t think it was as great as many reviewers state. Possibly because in addition to taking 40 minutes to arrive, our vegetarian pizza came without the corn and mushrooms it was supposed to have, but with olives which it wasn’t...(and I hate olives). Also, there was maybe one small piece of each of the other veggies per slice, if that. So we were disappointed.More

If longevity is a measure of quality, then here is Dunedin's top pizza joint. A scarfie hangout for generations, this Albany Street fixture has stood the test of time. The pizzas are a classic recipe and the winning formula never fails. Here's a pizza shop...to come back to time and time again, and anyone visiting the Uni for a conference just must TRY!More

Great atmosphere and wonderful cooking fragrances while you wait, you will not be disappointed! The non-cardboard-like bases are outstanding, there is a full selection of toppings from which to choose.

Visited Poppas Pizza on advise from an ex Uni student. Only a few minutes walk from Uni Campus we stopped in for a quick takeaway lunch. Nice pizza flavours, good base which went down well with the teenagers. They forgot to cook the garlic bread...in our order, so this delayed our leaving. The food was ok, but abit pricey and I think you could do better.More

Pizza with a tonne of flavour! Thought the price was a little too high but was still happy to pay for it. The lady who served us was very friendly and quite funny as well.
