My “Blue ‘n’ Gold” (fish and chips) was served cold. And the supposedly (according to the menu) cooked medium rare venison was served well done. But the beer is good and the atmosphere is nice.

Service average, more interested in talking to each other. Shank meat fid not melt off bone, nearly needed a steak knife, nd tough, broccoli soaked. Blob of gravy. Waitress took our plates. I only ate the corn on cob. I didn't say anything at the...time. This was a birthday tea. No one asked why 3/5 Neal's were hardly touched. Paid the bill and left hungry and disappointedMore

A great spot to grab early dinner with atmosphere, an extensive menu, and very large serves of good food. The beer was great too!

It was interesting to note that with such a big pub plus a brewery, this place has no parking available. Being a stranger in town it wasn't easy to navigate through hilly and one way streets to find a park. Nevertheless we did finally and...was lucky to find a table in this very busy restaurant. We ordered blue cod and chips plus fish of the day -dory fish Both were delicious with nice glass of apple cider.More

While visiting my daughter in June we had an amazing dinner here of the Highland lamb and lamb shanks dinners with desserts and Speight’s wonderful beers. So on this visit my husband came and we went there for drinks and tried five types all of...which he liked. Then we went back another night and had dinner with our daughters. We had the highland lamb, lamb shanks and the black cherry chicken dinners with a loaf of the garlic bread and a fruit crumble desert. It was all very good. Speight’s Ale House is a restaurant we will visit every time we are in town.More

The service is super friendly and efficient, the ambience is nice, and the lager is very good. We also had chowder, which was rich and tasty. However, the spare ribs are exactly the kind of food Gordon Ramsay would go to town over. The ribs...are fatty, contain a generous amount of cartilage, and are drowned in a pretty awful BBQ sauce, which is so sour that it leaves the tongue numb. Next time, drinks only.More

Good quality food at reasonable prices. Beer from neighbouring brewery easy to drink. Comfortable place to eat and socialise. Note it did get a bit crowded after c. 18:00, even on a weeknight, so plan accordingly. We would eat and drink here again. Recommended.

4 of us had dinner tonight at The Speight’s Ale House tonight. We booked online and got a reply within minutes. The service was great and the meals came out quickly. We had the cod, rib eye, rump and chicken. The rib eye was probably...the pick of the bunch. I had the cod because we heard a lot of people rave about it in NZ. It was ok, but I was not blown away by it. There are 8 Speight’s beers on tap. You can also buy wine if you don’t like beer. Well worth a visit 👍More

Arrived as a group of 10 on a busy night. After some searching given a table as long as we were out before people had reserved table which suited us and was appreciated. Service was fantastic from a busy staff member and food was great.

We had lunch here after the Speight’s brewery tour. We were too late for the full lunch menu, so we had the choice of bar snacks which were limited. The place was very noisy, I don’t know what was going on. It was not crowded...but sounded as id there were tables being dragged all the time. Not conducive to a happy atmosphere for eating! The girl serving was off hand! Compared to Speight’s ale house at Ashburton this place was a dive!!!! I had the blue cod which was mainly batter and chips with a bit of sad salad for $35 I think from memory. I did not eat the whole meal. It has put me off battered fish for life. My daughter had the seafood chowder which she said was lovely, maybe that would’ve been a better choice for me. All in all a disappointing visit to the Speight’s brewery and ale house in Dunedin. Only recommend if you like ordinary food and drink a lot.More
