Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Met with friends today for lunch and a catch-up. We had a lovely starter of Brie and fig. I was looking forward to a steak main and I asked for it to be cooked medium rare. My friend ordered steak as well and asked for...it to be medium cooked. Both steaks arrived and were seared on the outside but pretty much raw in the middle and they were extremely fatty and rubbery. Basically inedible and the chicken fat potatoes were very dry. Really disappointing. Thought questions may have been asked when plates were collected with the steaks and potatoes uneaten. Oh well. The beer was nice though 👍More

We have been here many times before, both for drinks and dinner. Dunedin doesn't have many places with pub-style dining in a nice setting but this is one of them. It's more of a gastropub style but you can get things like steak, fish &...chips etc. We opted for burgers (one venison, one braised beef) both of which were good quality. Small dessert menu but worth considering and the chocolate tart we ordered was delicious. The service was above average by Dunedin standards, helped by the fact they seemed adequately staffed (not always the case in other Dunedin establishments). Last but not least, it is in a student area but it is not a student bar. Older patrons will be more than happy here. We had a good time and will definitely come here again.More

food, service, environment and staff all 10/10. coming from Auckland I would of thought that a beautiful restaurant like eureka would be pricy and too fancy for me, I'm a person who prefers comfort foods like burgers, fried chicken, steak and soups. instead I come...to find that Eureka's menu not only had my favourite meals from a beef and cheese smash burger to having juicy steaks all cooked to the customers liking but it was all for a reasonable and well worth-it price. And if you guys want to know one of Eureka's hidden gems they have the best lemon, lime and bitters in Otago.More

After much research I booked this little place for our daughter’s 21st dinner with her friends and family. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind and accommodating. They let me bring a cake and some helium balloons in early. The chefs helped me fix the...cake that didn’t fully survive the car ride. Our waitress was efficient and friendly and found time to take photos for us on a very busy midweek night. The menu was perfect. Five of us shared from the tapas style ‘small plates’ menu (we recommend it all but especially the fishcakes, carrots, potato, dumplings and tacos) and the others had mains. We were ALL super happy with our choices-packed full of flavour and a decent size. Well done Eureka, really really enjoyed it. Thank you very much.More

We've been going to Eureka for over 15 years. The staff are lovely (especially the ones who have been there a long time). We regularly spend hundreds of dollars there, buying drinks and meals for ourselves and friends. But there seems to be a new...manager/owner recently who is very bossy and aggressive. She scolded us very rudely for sitting in the "wrong place" and moved us around from table to table at her convenience. I was astounded to be reprimanded like a misbehaving 5 year old when I'm sitting having a quiet drink with friends. I don't enjoy being smacked like a naughty child with one hand while the other hand is happy to take my money.More

We went on a a Friday night and it was busy. They found us a table though and were very helpful. The place can be quite noisy and it definitely was - we were next to a table of loud shrieks drinking females so yeah...noisy....I had trouble choosing. They have burgers, open sandwiches, small plate selection, mains and one special. I just couldn’t choose so panicked and chose the beef cheek burger with fries (it was supposed to have a pickle but nope). It had onion rings in it which were good. The fries were lovely. The burger though was spicy (really really spicy) but also it was blah. Now I’m putting it down to I made the wrong choice. One friend had the pork belly burger and loved it (no pickle on hers either, but also no onion rings). Another friend had an open sandwich and added onion rings. Said it was delicious. Limited dessert menu but 2 of us had the peanut butter and chocolate sundae. Had vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, brownie bits and peanut brittle. It helped the burning in my mouth and intestines from my meal. My burger was $23, sundae $12 and large coke $5. I wish I’d ordered something else but it was a good sized meal, served quickly and the staff were fab. Very popular with University staff and students so it is often busy and parking can be nonexistent during the day and some nights. I’d go back.More

We were recommended to stop in at this restaurant on our way to the rugby game and we are so glad we did. The staff were friendly, the food was fantastic and decor was very tasteful. We arrived early so could take our pick of...seats however it filled up really quickly and with good reason. I would highly recommend you stopping in here for a meal.More

Recently had my graduation dinner at eureka, and my day could not have concluded on such an amazing note. Everything from walking in to walking out couldn’t have gone any better. The choice of beer was outstanding, catering for the diverse needs of my pallet...I was not let down. The food was the most perfect match, the moisture of the lamb shoulder salad was so succulent, it paired with the warm weather and the Baylands hazy I was drinking. Thank you to Smithers and the gang for a great night xMore

We ate late-ish at Eureka on a quiet night in Dunedin, and had excellent service and a great meal from the staff there. They catered well to our dietary needs, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and although we were...the last ones there, we didn't get hurried out at all, we were interacted with in a friendly and helpful way. The food was full of flavour, attractively served and expertly prepared. The waiting/bar staff were great!More

A warm, welcoming place for lunch with great decor! My son enjoyed his crispy chicken burger with fries and we had a couple of starters of garlic bread and beer nuts, both delicious, to go with our beer and wine! We will definitely be back...to sample more of your excellent dishes!More
