Love coming in for the potato chats with aioli and tomato, good vibes from a busy wee city bar. Bartenders are always chatty, decor is old fashioned and a 'mans bar'

Delicious whisky options. Friendly bar staff and pretty chilled atmosphere. Fun night out catching up for a few before loxal gigs and finishing up after.

This small pub has a nice selection of draft beers, mostly served from engines in the British style. i.e.: cellar temp. This dramatically changes your pint. It was a pleasure to get great beer and be able to taste it as it was meant to be, not frozen. The menu is a bit funky, Tapas! And other stuff. The tapas... More

Walking back to our hostel from dinner, this pub caught our eye with its olde style storefront and we decided to try a drink. Evidently popular, it was a struggle to get to the bar through the crowded room though thankfully we found the last available table adjacent to it. The barman was friendly, letting me sample several of the... More

Come and visit. Great beers, whisky and tapas food. Service is excellent. Close to octagon in central city. The sort of bar if your on your own you feel welcome.

Being from the UK, I miss bars & pubs with actual atmosphere- this place is one of my favourite in NZ. It's small but inviting, all the staff are friendly & the food looks awesome- can't wait to try some. Great relaxed place to visit & enjoy some good beer.

Dunedin is obviously a city with strong Scottish heritage and, being on our travels and not having been in Scotland since late January, we met friends here for drinks on a Wednesday night. The bar was busy, has a good atmosphere and, unlike many of the supposed Irish pubs you come across, this one claimed to be Scottish and pretty... More

We dropped into the Albar after an evening meal and spotted the hand pumps with badges for a UK beer and three Emersons beers. What a delight it was to be able to sample some decent beers served at a proper temperature rather than the ice cold but largely tasteless offerings usually available in NZ. The beer was superb and... More

We visited here twice as the selection and quality of the hand-pulled and tap beers is excellent. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful. If you're not sure which to chose just ask them and they'll give you a sample to taste. They have a selection of local Emerson beers. If you are a lover of craft, hand-pulled ales and... More
