Our family of five went for a meal after the graduation ceremony. I ordered a steak, well done, my son said times two. My grandson ordered medium rare steak. Two other different meals were ordered. When my steak arrived the waiter said medium well and...I said no I had asked for well done. He then changed his mind and said well done. I asked how it could be two different things. He said for me to cut the steak and find out. It was quite hard to cut and he hassled me again to cut the meat. He was talking over my food which put me off my meal. Later he came back and said I had changed the order, the waitress had med well written down and i had changed it to well done. I had not changed the order. I was annoyed that either the waitress or the waiter had made a mistake and then tried to blame it on the customer. It spoilt the atmosphere of the evening. I gave my steak to my husband as i could not enjoy it after all this hassle.More

We had a really great dinner, ribeye and beef ragu, which were great! For desert creme brûlée and chocolate ganache, the desert were super too sweet, maybe add a little balance would be better. Great service, overall a good choice.

Went on a Saturday night, service excellent, food excellent all in all a very pleasant experience. The building the restaurant is in, has great atmosphere and the front of house was only too happy to tell us about the building. The food is extremely well...priced, beautifully presented, and very enjoyable. Came away feeling very happy with the evening. The, pasta and lentil dishes were excellent, plus the creme brulee and the Afogato.More

The restaurant is bright and clean, warm and welcoming. We were welcomed with a huge smile and seated immediately. The menu is small but there is a good selection. Perhaps a lemon dessert could be added - but that’s just a preference of mine. Entree...is a du jour - one choice which was shellfish. Instead we started with breads and spreads - there were 4 flavours plus aged balsamic. Gorgeous- my favourite was the garlic. Also included tapenade, honey butter and lemon, sun dried tomato. There are just 4 slices (half slices) of bread but the meal sizes are substantial enough you don’t want to fill up on the bread. I had Kraken Risotto (I wanted to say Release the Kraken!) which had calamari, mussels and prawns. Also had broccoli, capsicum and blue cheese. It was spicy and plentiful. Delicious. My dining partner had Rib Eye which had large yummy chips, spinach and mushrooms with a jus. She loved it. We shared a rich chocolate tart with creme praline for dessert (this was the special). Very enjoyable meal with attentive staff in a lovely atmosphere. The coffee wasn’t strong is my only issue with the whole experience.More

I found the staff very accommodating we had large group an still had very prompt service. We reserved tables prior. I got the mulled wine and Poulet which had chicken and bacon and a lovely sauce, all the flavours seemed to complement each other perfectly....I especially liked how soft the potatoes were. It is more expensive that what I would normally pay for a meal at $36 but was definitely worth it. Was lovely and warm in the building with nice music that was quiet enough so everyone could easily converse.More

This is the second time we have been to Gaslight and just like our last visit it was awesome. Once again we had great service and because the restaurant was only half full management had the time to tell us about the history of the...building going right back to the original owners. My wife and I had the Porc dish which was exceptional and my daughter throughly enjoyed her risotto. We thought the price paid for our meals was very reasonable given how good the meals were. Well done Gaslight, thanks for a wonderful evening.More

Trying new places to find some new fav spots, first time here as heard good things, disappointing and left unsatisfied. When we were meal checked once with the main the pork belly was not crispy like advertised but soft so someone came and offered to...crisp it halfway through eating it to which we declined as we were hungry. The scallop entree was $22 with just 5 scallops, and 3 pieces of black pudding, the flavours were nice however there was only one whole scallop, the other four were tiny approx 1cm with the roe missing, very inconsistent, and my favourite part of the scallop. My duck, wasn't stated which cut but was hoping would be breast as first time trying it, was $38 for a leg on a pool of white beans with no chorizo as stated, it was just like eating chicken on baked beans I could not eat, flavours strange and overpowered with cinnamonir 5 spice rather than orange and just awful texture and not a treat to the eyes or palette for price. The best part was dessert creme brulee, unsure if the creme was made there but the top was crystalized nicely and I ate it all cos I was hungry. Service was fine. Drinks nice. Disappointed and sadly probably won't try again, really wanted to give a better review but have to be honest.More

I went here because they have vegan options. I ordered one and was warned that it would not be very tasty because it was vegan. This was correct, but my guest had a dish that was not vegan, with no warning and it was also...pretty bland. For the prices this is definitely not worth it. I am not sure why anyone goes here as I have had better meals out of a can.More

I went for an early dinner. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the ambiance was great. My gnocchi with mushrooms, bacon and Parmesan was really good and the flambé chocolate pot was delicious, decadent and theatrical. I’ve booked to go back again...during my stay in Dunedin.More

Hello there, we will unfortunately be closed for the holidays. We reopen for 2017 at 5pm on Thurs 5th Jan. I would recommend making a booking this time of year as a few places are taking a well earned break. Cheers Patrick.
