This is undoubtedly the stand out Indian food in Dunedin. The garlic naan is incredible as is the butter chicken. You could tell from who else chose to dine here that it was popular with those with authentic tastes! Busy managing take out as well as table service, the service was real and sometimes patience was required as customer requests were juggled. This added to the experience. Well worth a visit.

Really enjoyed our evening meal here. Ordered mango lassi, mixed platter, cheese and garlic naan, chicken biryani and lamb methi. All was great, generous serving and attention paid to confirming the level of spice which was spot on. Condiments were provided such as chutney and raita. The lamb methi was especially delicious. The service was quiet and professional. What a great place. We will return.

Possibly the worst service I have experienced ever. Consistently horrible. However I still come back weekly because the curry is so good and they have some pretty good deals. Definitely would recommend but go in knowing it might take 20 minutes to order and then half an hour for your food to come. The water however is exceptional! Perfect temperature, always comes straight to the table. Also, their butter chicken is worthy of those who don’t usually like Indian food. Highly praised.

Food was pretty good, service not. We always judge our family meals after we leave a restaurant, not during attendance, and the service and atmosphere make up 50% of our score. It felt like staff didn’t want us to be there, even though there were only two other customers at the time.

We are writing to you today as a group of very unhappy locals. We are not happy with the service we received. As a group, we sat in cold chairs getting ignored for over 30 minutes before even receiving a glass. After basically having to scream for glasses, they made it half way across the restaurant before the waitress got distracted once again. So after 15 minutes further of the glasses sitting there. I stood up and grabbed them for myself. Not happy. I am very annoyed that there is no music and the phone keeps bloody ringing. It’s my birthday and I’m sad. I’m starving and feel like I’m not going to get my food until tomorrow. SMH. Whilst finally get our order after 45 minutes he proceeded to answer the phone 3 times while taking our order. Considering this place advertises themselves as a BYO restaurant where people can come feel special on their birthday with friends, my experience so far has felt quite the opposite. Out of the 25 or so tables, only 3 small tables were occupied. Which is RIDICULOUS considering the service we received. When the food did come out it was cold and had minimal flavour. A friend described it as ‘orange snow’. By the time the naan came out we had all finished our curries and the order was mucked up. The overall experience was horrible and we will not be returning again or recommending it to others.

If you want a fire in your mouth this is your place. Mild anything is hot everything. Disappointing is an understatement. The kitchen was woke and wouldn’t listen to anyone who wanted to make a suggestion. Between the spoons of chilli paste by the waiter and doughy naan this place is not a place to enjoy. The poor waiter was under the pump and looked to be embarrassed with what was coming out. Legend he was. Do not recommend

Worst meal we have had in NZ! When ordering we were asked how spicy we woud like our dishes. My husband asked for his Biryani to be mild. The lady on te next table had to send back her korma because it was also so spicy she couldnt eat it after ordering 'mild' The plates arrived stone cold. The biryani was so spicy he could not eat it and the small amount he managed to eat only stayed with him a short time. My curry tasted like it could have just come out of a jar. Rice was served in a glass pudding basin, the table sticky was and nasty. Avoid this restaurant at all costs

While I did not have a problem with the food, the service is something which has left an extremely sour taste in the mouth. Not only did the staff attempt to conceal the liquor licensing laws applying to the restaurant, after repeated attempts to track the progress of our order - we were greeted with threats of expulsion. At this stage, it seems there is nothing left open to me but to leave a review - this is something I would not normally do.

I have gone to Maharaja a few times for a BYO dinner with a big group of friends of Uni. Maharajas always manages to cater for all of us (50-70) people and are prepared so that our food comes out quickly and we don’t have to wait around for hours. Also their butter chicken is delish

Please refrain from going to this restaurant. Overly priced food and the chicken is not cooked properly. When we updated that to the manager, she called chef and the response from him was not any replacement of the food or any other alternative “He mentioned sometimes it happens” seriously? That means customer has to pay in full price & have to eat sometimes “half cooked chicken”? Don’t be fooled by the ratings . Shame on you being a manager doesn’t know the customer service. Thanks for ruining our family dinner time. Actually we are not from Dunedin and were hungry as well. Not at all happy. All the things manager said was not her fault.

Ordered a Chicken Biryani, Palak Paneer Makhni & Naan as takeaway. The food was tasty, well spiced & of generous quantity. The food was ready on time & the prices reasonable. The only negative was the Palak Paneer Makhni could have done with a wee bit more paneer it it. Plenty of Palak Makhni not so much Paneer. Overall a very tasty takeaway meal, and I'd order from them again.

Some of the best Indian food we have had in NZ. We had the mixed starter plate, Kadai chicken, Jalfarezi lamb, garlic naan, and 2 Kingfisher Strongs. The food was fresh, well spiced, and excellently prepared. Portions were plentiful. Service was a touch slow but we also showed up before the dinner hour. 2 thumbs up. Definitely recommend. Also appreciated the sass ones of the menu!

My partner and I visited this restaurant during Easter weekend. Staff welcomed us and seated us straight away. Food was tasty with good size portion. we had to ask for take away container for our leftover. Service was lovely too. We will definitely be back.

Second time for lunch in this restaurant in two years. Waited nearly an hour for 3 dishes even though there were only a handful of people. Service is less then friendly. Manager spent her time on the phone rather then taking the orders from customers. Atmosphere is cold and uninviting. Price for the meals were reasonable. Food is average. Wouldn't go back there again, simply because of the service we received.
