If you are planning on visiting Lone Star you should expect very reasonably sized portions that sate most hungry appetites On this occasion I had a three course meal which I have not done for many years as a semi regular customer. You can get filled up quite easily on a 2 course meal depending on what you order. The signature ribs and sauce are fantastic. Even a few ribs as a starter could be enough for some with smaller appetites. Excellent mains and dessert (for those that still have room). The country and western atmosphere and music adds to the family friendly ambience. Repeat visits are always lined up down the road. It can get pricey but you are getting a unique dining atmosphere. Staff are great and attentive. My only caveat is if you have already had a big lunch during the day, you may not be able to handle a full Lone Star meal option. I tend to eat light during the day if I know I am going to Lone Sar for dinne. Casual dining at its best. You may have to book a table if major sporting or concert events are held in the city on the day as this venue is the go-to pre-event hotspot as its location is close to the Stadium.

We’ve been lone star fans for over 10 years and eaten countless ribs in that time but last night took the shine off a little.
The food and service were excellent but at the end of our meal when we asked for the desert menu we were told the chef has had a long day and the kitchen was closed. At 9.40pm.
We were a table of 7, 4 adults and 3 little kids. The kids got their ice creams as part of the kids meal; but us adults were left hanging.
Maybe it’s lone star policy to shut the kitchen at 9.30pm, but maybe a better policy would be to serve customers a full meal whilst they’re seated as they would be more likely to return.
It was a little lack lustre in the end as far as the lone star experience goes.

Our group of 7 really enjoyed our evening. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived and we were happy to get a table in the bar before being seated the restaurant. The service was excellent despite being really busy. The meals were all really good. The salmon at $36 was the lost expensive item and it was really good with fresh sides. The desserts were really good. One of our party had a food allergy and the staff had a list of ingredients and managed the food allergy the best of any restaurants experienced. Thank you.

Food was good but unfortunately let down by poor service. Waitress was nice but incompetent. We waited over an hour for our simple drink orders to be completed despite asking where they were twice. We didn’t get a finger bowl for our ribs until we had asked twice for it and it came with ice cubes in it?? Then to top it off she gave us our bill (which incidentally had overcharged us with a dish that they had run out of) and then subsequently asked whether we wanted to order anything else. Surprisingly we said no. Expect more from a well established restaurant.

Pleasant welcome, great hostess, absolutely delicious fresh food served in generous portions all within a really nice environment.
Obviously good teamwork.
The menu may be smaller than usual but nothing else has changed, just remember to use the loyalty app.

With the music being a little loud for us oldies we entered and checked out the menu. I had the NZ salmon dish which had the green veggies side dish included as a special. My husband had the blue cod dish exchanging the included salad for green veggies. Being our15th night stay in South Island this meal was up there comparable with another favourite restaurant in Christchurch, for lamb and beef. It confirmed the statement of the great seafood to be found on NZ which had eluded us till now.

Booked for the Mid-Winter Feast and everyone had a great meal. A bit disappointed the offer didn't include a free wine or beer this time. $39.90 each for a main meal and a dessert is pretty close to normal prices so a complimentary glass of wine or beer would've definitely enticed us into to coming back again as a large group.

Rack of ribs was really well cooked and well marinated in hoi sin sauce. Potatoes were really fresh. Coleslaw was a bit dubious but maybe that is just me. Ribeye was nice and tasty NZ beef but it was very "sinewy". Good service, reasonably priced, fresh ingredients, good sporty atmosphere... just let down by certain elements of the meal and so i will still rate it 4 stars...

The best atmosphere. The waiters the best, friendly, helpful and made us feel so at home. The food was a bit of a downer. Steaks were not cooked to requested which brought down the whole dining experience for some of us. We’ll return for the excellent dessert, great atmosphere and friendly helpful waiters, but not for the food.

The mains were great, as usual. The Lone Star load which used to be fresh baked and immense, now looks like it came out of a freezer at pak n save. The service was slow and all over the place. The staff seemed busy, but serving the customers seemed to be low on the priority list.

Had an amazing dinner at the lone star in Dunedin. The staff where wonderful. The new buttons at table let you ring for drinks fab. My partner and daughter went for dinner each meal was delicious My fav Dixie chicken always a winner.

Good food great kumara chips and squid. Cocktails on point. Chicken Quesadilla was tasty be back for another cold beer and cocktail and of course some more delicious food. Friendly staff thanks again

Went for a special occasion. Lone star Dunedin was a great family friendly restaurant which used to be reasonably priced. Now its way over priced! Meals are alot smaller. So disappointed. Then ti top it off they charge 1.5% to use your credit card. Service was slow and wasn't even that busy.Very loud!

Unfortunately didnt have a good experience this time. We all got ribs, our ribs were cold, very tough and difficult to physically eat and chew. Unfortunately the service wasnt great, forgot our drinks, brought out all the food and THEN told us one of the meals wasnt actually available (could of said much earlier so 1 person waited much longer). Had to ask 3 times for things, and 6 of us had to squash around a small table that couldnt even fit 6 plates properly on top of drinks and some starters, so it was uncomfortable. The restaurant was half empty at this time too. Weve had amazing experiences there before, the food can be great but just this one time it wasnt very good.

Visited for dinner.Wait staff said we could get table in 10mins despite being busy.Waited 10 and bought a drink then the same staff comes up and says that any order will take an hour and half to get cooked. Wasn't waiting for that long....So walked out the premises.the staff should know there own wait times.

There seems there may have been some confusion with the wait times that were relayed to you as we very rarely ever have wait times on food reaching an excess of an hour let alone an hour and a half! This is definitely a mistake on our end and I have communicated with the staff involved to ensure the relevant information is being relayed to the guests!
