Unplanned walk in and greeted warmly. Seem to cater for anything from drinks through snacks through to full fancy meal. We had sharing platter and enjoyed hugely with helpful info from owner about the meats and cheeses presented. Huge wine selection. Nice intimate atmosphere. Returned...again for coffee amd cake on rainy afternoon and same warm welcome and helpful service.More

Awesome dinner- downstairs bar for a few wines off their AMAZING by-the-glass list. Then upstairs for the most scrumptious food I’ve had in a long time. Duck confit tortellini was amazing, as was the venison and steak. Service was exceptional - will definitely be back!

My friend and I had a superb dinner here when we traveled to Christchurch for the weekend. I had booked a few weeks in advance as I knew it would be busy. Staff were lovely and chatty. The meals are not cheap but the portions...are large and filling. We have returned home today and we agreed our "food highlight" for the whole weekend was definitely the mushroom soup served here in an old tea cup. This was no ordinary soup - my word it was sooo good. My friend had the fish and I the pork belly - all delicious. You won't regret a visit here but you might like to save some room for dessert - which sadly we didn't have. My only concern was that our coats were hung out in the corridor which wasn't very secure so management might like to change that.More

We went as a family and had starters, mains and several glasses of wine each. The food was lovely and delicious. The staff were chatty. We enjoyed our meal until we went to pay and we’re asked to tip on a bill where we’d spent...20 for starter, 40 for main AND alcohol. Think that’s a bit much here in NZ. Don’t bring tipping culture here please.More

Kia ora 895ashleighw, We are so glad you enjoyed the food and staff. Tips as always are not compulsory and are always at the diners discretion. It is just an option and is shared amongst all the staff on that evening if you do choose...More

Excellent New Year's Eve dinner, friendly and welcoming staff, knowledgeable and spot-on service. Food was a delight, with a reasonable wine menu. Full of atmosphere and warmth, great value. When in Christchurch top of the revisit list.

A bit crowded but the service and food is worth it. You have to climb the stairs. We did not make a booking but the host was very accomodating and offered us a table.

Second time back to a previously exceptional restaurant is often a disappointment for one reason or another. Not the case with twenty seven steps. If anything the food, the service were once again …well…exceptional 18 months later. We were welcomed, our waitress was friendly but...efficient and the food was exquisite. It was busy so a little noisy, but worth it.More

Wouldn’t say a young family restaurant but good for groups. Older family would be fine

Did not count how many steps, but if it is less than 27 you will get to the best little restaurant in New Regent Street, Christchurch that little bit sooner :-) !!
