The staff were so lovely and friendly. The food is amazing. They certainly made you feel welcome. When we got there a couple at the next table did nothing but complain from the time they sat down. They ended up leaving after about 5 mins, moaning the service was slow, the food was expensive and so on. The lovely owner felt bad until we told him they did nothing but moan and that nothing he did would have made any difference. He is wonderful . I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody, AND THE PRICES ARE SO REASONABLE, in fact they could increase their prices a bit and I'm sure it wil still be busy and people would be happy to pay a bit more for the food and service

I arranged a meal for nine of us cousins and Aunt and Uncle. All our first visit there from the USA and Motueka and Christchurch. Service was absolutely fabulous and He suggested their speciality dishes and different types of hot to mold dishes. We had about 12 mains and 3 appertisers and shared five bottles of wine (corkage $8 per bottle). We all had a wonderful time and I\ll be taking my Mm and Dad for their 56th year of marriage but their 14th wedding anniversary 29/2/2020. Looking forward to it and recommend it as a great value for money and awesome service. Cost us all $45 dollars each. But we ordered way too much!!

Last night (6th February 2020), I had my birthday at the restaurant. The food and service was outstanding as always, as I've been previously for lunch and dinner. The staff were friendly and welcoming. With it being a full restaurant they kept on smiling and they did not look stressed.
The food I ordered for the table to share was Tom Kar, Laab, Ped Palo (which is duck and it was delicious), Pad Thai and the last dish I can not remember but was super tasty.I also ordered mixed appetizers which filled the hunger gap before the mains.
Besides the exceptional food and service, the decor of the restaurant upstairs and downstairs was very warm and inviting as you got a taste and feel of Thailand.
Highly recommend going to Thai Orchid if you're after some authentic Thai food and flavours, whether its for lunch or dinner.

On 13 June 2020 went to Thai Orchid for my friends birthday BYO. There was 17 of us and we were separated into three tables. This felt disconnected and not very social as we weren't allowed to sit together. We asked if we could move the tables together and were told no. When I worked in hospitality we would always cater for the customers wants and needs and we didn't think this would be an issue. Food came out fast for some tables but we waited about an hour for our mains. We arrived at 7.15pm and got our starters about 10 minutes after ordering and then we didn't get mains until nearly close to 9.00pm. When I went to pay, the lady who I believe is the owner asked me if I had wine for corkage and I said yes and I was paying half of a meal with a friend. She might not have heard me because then she started hitting the wine bottle that was in my arm and said "CORKAGE" I thought this was rude and horrible customer service. The only thing I really liked about Thai Orchid was the curry puffs. I will not be returning.

We couldn't get a table in their small space when we stopped in for dinner without a reservation, so we decided to order take-away and sat down to wait. We saw many to-go orders come out and be picked up. The woman that took our order disappeared and was replaced by another that never asked what we were waiting for. After waiting about 20 minutes, the owner appeared at the counter and asked just that. It turns out that our order had been waiting at the counter all along, but nobody told us. After all of the confusion, the Chicken Massaman Curry with rice was not noteworthy.

Went here to lunch with some friends. The thing with their menu was that a whole new name was given to a dish purely based on the fact that the type of noodles that was used was different.. most of the dishes taste the same just have different types of noodles and maybe one with cauliflower and the other with bok choy, so basically I just thought the dishes were much the same. The value for the price you pay is great, the dishes are fairly big and taste overall quite nice but just lacks that originality. The service was average.. she didn’t seem to care much.

We ate here twice whilst in Christchurch and the service was 1st class with top class food.
The owner and host was very helpful in choosing from the menu and also made time to have a conversation with you.
If in town I would suggest this restaurant is a must to visit.

Thai Orchid has a great choice of food on their menu, which has lots for vegetarians too!
The fishcakes are (and taste) freshly made by the chef. I followed them with a tofu pad kee mao, which consisted of very fresh vegetables, green Thai peppercorns and no holds barred on the chilli - one of the best I've ever had, and perfect with a bottle of Chang beer!
Amy was great at front-of-house, giving a lovely welcome. All the waiting staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food.
What a lovely atmosphere and great food, well done on making Thai Orchid an amazing place to eat!

The dinner menu had so much to choose from! Four of us shared four different mains + appetisers. All were fantastic with flavours I haven’t had since in Thailand and now this is our favourite restaurant in Christchurch. Crispy Duck, Salmon dish, Pad Se Ew Beef and Pad Phed Spicy Chicken was only bettered by the lovely service. Amazing!

We only had one night in Christchurch and i chose accommodation to be near Thai Orchid. We are very glad we did. The food was great, really fresh and tasty, lovely wine and the most amazing cocktail that came in a bamboo glass. Also the host Jules was really friendly and couldn’t do enough, including giving us tonnes of info about places around South Island NZ. We would definitely go again and again if we are in Christchurch.

As soon as you walk into Thai Orchid, you are received with a lovely warm welcome. We were taken to our table & you can't help but have a fabulous feeling in here, it just oozes with ambience, has great decor & plays good background music. The 2 owners personally look after you & the food was to die for, I can recommend the Sizzling Beef & the Crispy Garlic Chicken, which we got to share. I just know we'll be back when we next visit Christchurch.

My partner and I had a wonderful evening at Thai Orchid. The food was delicious and good sized portions. The menu takes very authentic Thai flavours and adds some well thought out Kiwi twists. We especially loved the coconut prawns and Thai red curry - fabulous! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We were served by one of the owners Jules who took us through the menu and made some great recommendations. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Thai orchid is our favorite restaurant in town . They never let us down . Our favorite dishes are crispy duck and lemon salmon , they are so devine　!!
We got recommended garlic chicken which became our favorite dish as well .
Also atmosphere and hospitality are always incredible and amazing .
We are happy to rate 10/10 !

My self and my family Had the most wonderful experience.
Staff were so friendly, efficient, fast and caring to the customers needs.
We dined for a large family group celebrating several birthdays. The staff took note of all the birthdays and organised cocktails and deserts on the house and sung happy birthday.
The food was delicious and fast delivery.
I would recommend this restaurant to everyone they really cater to everyone’s needs.

My husband and I were looking forward to having our first date night since lock down so we looked online to find what was deemed the best Thai restaurant in Christchurch and we were not disappointed! The decor of Thai Orchid is warm, welcoming and had elements that reminded us of the time we spent in Thailand for our honeymoon. The smells also took us back there instantly from walking through the doors. We had the mixed appetizers, tom yum with prawns, pad thai with chicken and beef penang. Wow. The flavours were spot on - all the right balances of sweet, sour, salty and creamy! Absolutely delicious! The portion sizes were generous, the plating attractive and servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you Jules and Jummi for a wonderful evening where we found our new favourite Thai restaurant! We will certainly come again to try other dishes on the menu and will be recommending Thai Orchid to our friends and family!
