Located in Riverside Market. Ordered the lamb souvlaki, which is a pita filled with your choice of meat, tzatziki, lettuce, tomatoes, and some type of sauce on top. You can order a single, double, or triple which is referring to the portion of protein. Service was great, quick, and the food was delicious and filling. Couldn’t ask for more!

Do yourself a 'flavour' for lunch

Located inside a corner of the Riverside Market. All they sell is souvlaki-- chicken and lamb seem to be the most popular. You can purchase a single, double or triple, each containing more of your chosen meat wrapped in a large pita accompanied by veggies and Greek sauce. And they do it really well, with a constant lineup of hungry, eager customers. The owner told me "if I am not here working hard, the quality can go down". A double chicken souvlaki was more than enough for me. And the pricing is among the most reasonable in the market. A fantastic lunch.

A warm familiar institution

As a kid, my Dad used to take us to the Dimitris caravan in the art centre and introduced us to a life long favourite, we always loved it, now when I come to Christchurch From timaru I always try to make sure I get to Dimitris at least once and I take my kids. Dimitris is a Christchurch classic. This family run establishment offers an experience which has remained consistent over the years and if you have ever had a souvlaki from Dimitris you know exactly what you can expect on your next visit. Their delicious sauces, always fresh salad, great quality and selection of meats and other fillings and soft and fluffy pita breads satisfy every time and at a cost that in this day and age is fair and reasonable and has barely changed over the years (As a chef I can tell you that isn’t an easy thing to do). The buildings and locations may have changed over the years, but what makes Dmitris a must for any food lover never has, thanks Dimitris, never change.

I had not had the pleasure of dining at Dimitri's for more than a decade, I had to learn where his new location was as the Quake of 2011 ruined his lovely shop near the corner opposite the Chch. Cathedral. Double Lamb Souvlaki was as EXCELLENT as when I last had one. I took two friends along, one had never been there at all she LOVED IT.....but foolishly had chosen the Single Lamb Souvlaki....we will ALL be BACK for more of the same. What a shame that the upper North Island is mostly unblessed with Greek Cuisine (El Greco being our only salvation in those parts)

Had some Dimitris souvlaki today at Riverside Markrt after watching the buskers in town. Surprised that its $17 a souvlaki, seems expensive?? Chicken souvlaki was nicely seasoned and bread was soft but toasty. Liked the fresh tomato to go along with the lettuce. Chicken all the way to the bottom and big chunks. Only negative was price and that it was so tightly wrapped up it was a bit hard to eat. My husband's chicken and falafel was nice too, falafel was crunchy on outside soft on inside.

Visited the Riverside location for lunch. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Portion size is of good value. However, this is hands down the worst falafel I have ever had in my life. It is soggy/mushy, overcooked on the outside but not crispy at all. It lacks fresh herbs. I'm not even sure is it is made wholly out of chickpeas, as the consistency is more like mashed potatoes. I hope they can improve this, as this would be a great spot to pick up a hearty, vegan lunch when working downtown.

A Hidden Gem

We needed to rush to the airport and that was why this one wasn't our first choice. I came across this one without much expectation at all. When I saw the Souvlaki I decided to give it a try. I ordered a combination with beef and lamb for two of us to share. I thought there should be a real small size of meat, for $16. The portion of meats was really generous, the taste was good and the service was friendly. If I am going to Christchurch again, I will definitely be there again

The plate was tasteless, go for the one in the pita bread, that's much better. Don't think the feta is real, possibly cow cheese, doesn't taste like real Greek feta cheese. I had it when I visited chch at the restart mall, now moved to CHCH, now at the river market, didn't like it anymore.

We at Dimitri's Greek Food in mid-March while in Christchurch. A German friend we met had recommended Dimitri's and she was right! Their Souvlaki is great. My wife ordered the lamb souvlaki and I had the chicken souvlaki. Both were served in environmentally correct serving dishes with bamboo forks. The food was excellent and service was fast and friendly. We would really recommend Dimitri's Greek Food when you find yourself in Christchurch.

I've heard such good things about the souvlakis here but cant say I though mine was that great. I ordered a double but a single would have been fine. Loved the bread and that I was not asked what chilli I wanted, (It should be tasty without chilli!). Plenty of lettuce and tomato but it was salty and when I got half way down it was dry, by the bottom I just pulled the meat out to take home to my dogs. First and last time for me.

Delicious! Authentic flavours by authentic Greeks! You can’t get that true satisfaction with any other souvlaki in NZ. I always visit when I’m in Christchurch and walk away with my tastebuds in heaven. I used to eat meat and highly recommended the chicken souvlaki. Now I’m vegetarian and it’s still my favourite place to eat in Christchurch. Try as I do, I can’t get my pita bread to taste as good as theirs, the Tzatziki sauce is devine. Everything is fresh. Yummy! The staff are happy and friendly.

I've loved dimitris for years, from the riccarton site to the van but this ones about the new spot in Riverside market. The double or triple lamb souvilaki reminds me of sitting on Santorini eating gyros with the old Greek chap cooking and chatting away with me. Just perfect tender lamb, always add hummus and hot chilli and it always comes with a grin. I need to get the pork again sometime but its so hard because the lamb is just so damned good. Perfect mix of sauces meat and salad. I can't speak more highly of them. 10/10

Tasty food, excellent value

This is a well organized storefront restaurant that is part of the Riverside Market. There are lots of covered picnic tables adjacent. The menu is simple with several choices of proteins. Portions are very generous and prices are very reasonable. The line was long but it moved quickly. We enjoyed it so much that we almost came back the next day (and we should have).

A friend of mine told us if we came to Christchurch , this gem is a must do . Her words “ Best Souvlaki ever. “ This place doesn’t disappoint . It bought back memories of a Greek holiday I had in my 20’s. The platter was fantastic . Mine lamb and falafel . My husband had pork . He even finished mine off for me . Highly recommend to all .
