We arrived in Christchurch around 9pm and found Vesuvio - an absolutely wonderful corner of the universe which you absolutely must - MUST - visit. The venue is magical with a comfortable outdoor courtyard, live music, delicious tapa platters and an excellent selection of drinks...(including wines, mixed and beer on tap). We're two vegetarians who shared a tapas platter and were quite satisfied. The flavours worked so well together and the portion was generous.More

Great food, great atmosphere, great staff, great selection of beer and wine. Awesome little bar off the main street in a cute courtyard. Perfect place for a hang out with friends.

Tapas bar with a bit of vibe to it. Small interior, but large outdoor space occupying bulk of retail precinct courtyard, complete with heaters for those cool Canterbury evenings. Great tasting prawn and chorizo pot, bruschetta heavy on the garlic and good selection of local...craft beers. Comfort food in comfortable surroundings, accompanied by occasional live jazz.More

Have been coming here for years. Very friendly and professional staff, delicious cheese boards and actually the best olives in town. Great wine selection and they mix a perfect negroni! Atmosphere is on point with plenty of heaters and candles, and when there's live music...you won't be hearing wagon wheel here, only the good stuff ;)More

This is a very special little place; tucked away in an old pre-earthquake brick courtyard this is probably the only wine bar in New Zealand such as you might find in Barcelona; a lot of charm, lovely outdoor areas, outstanding selection of wines both local...and international, and, importantly, all served by the glass; the service was delightful as well as knowledgable, and the chargrilled Tapas were made with obvious passion; there was a very good live performance of Gypsy music later in the evening on the night that we visited; this is a gem of a place - highly recommend and this was our second time here.More

My husband and I visit Christchurch every year and stay on Bealey around the corner from Vesuvio. And we always look forward to going in, the Staff is FANTASTIC! They’re funny, sweet and efficient. The wine menu is comprehensive and the tapas are creative. We...were in twice last week and had 2 totally different music genres, both were terrific. One Irish music, the other a guitarist and a violinist. The mood is so upbeat at Vesuvio we look forward to going back next year!More

Love the spot, great wine selection and a small but excellent food menu. Staff are awesome, such a nice spot to have drinks with friends or to kick back and enjoy the local music talent.

What a wonderful find. ..can’t decide if I want to share it or keep it all to myself! Vesuvio is like entering a small, tucked-away but fully formed world - from before the Canterbury earthquakes. It has a big city feel, beautiful people, quirky but...very engaged staff, extensive wine list, nice music, cocktails... everything!! I’m told the tapas are good too,but we haven’t had a chance to sample them extensively yet. We are are going to change all that, when we visit again, soon! If you are trying to decide between Vesuvio and OGB.. go to both.More

We discovered this bar on our first night in Christchurch as we love live music and it wasn’t far from our hotel. In the end, we spent every evening here as we loved the place so much. The bar is small and cozy, staff are...friendly, the music was always great (although it was a pity that it only started at 9pm), and the food and wines were excellent. If you go, don’t miss out on trying their fantastic lamb.More
