Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On a recent visit to Christchurch we needed to find a quick takeaway close to our accommodation after a long day of sightseeing. Chongs is upstairs and has a large seating area. It was very quiet the night we were there. The staff were helpful and pleasant and our food didn't take too long to arrive, all nicely packed for us for easy carrying. Our meal was very good and we enjoyed it.

We arrived in Christchurch and needed a quick reasonably priced meal. The setting lacked ambiance as we were early but would wonder what it would be like if busy. We had shredded pork and sizzling beef and small bowl of rice. Overall quick tasty and plenty of it.

Enjoyed a Dinner here with a friend of mine who recommended this place. Must have walked past this numerous times as it is in a busy environment on Cathedral Junction. I had no issues with the food, good spring rolls and the prompt service and smiling staff, made me feel welcome I tried the Kung pao chicken, enjoyed my food and will be back there

We were recommended to go here but very disappointed. Asked for a recommendation for a dish with a lot of vegetables . Had chicken and cashews with 2 bits of broccoli a few carrots and a lot dry chicken. Quite tasteless and very little sauce to go with it . Small portion for $32 and were asked to pay for plastic forks and paper bag.

Most expensive Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. You would think for the price it would at least taste good. But, alas, I left the spicy "beef' soup behind.

Ordered simple things Like noodles with vegetables and Dumplings. The dumplings were passable but my granddaughters noodles were so bad she couldn’t even eat them

I should have known when I saw that this restaurant was fairly empty. This is the first time in my life that I’ve walked out of a restaurant, leaving most of the dinner which I was forced to pay for, and gone elsewhere to eat. It’s the worst meal I’ve ever had in any Chinese restaurant, which I usually enjoy. And it wasn’t particularly cheap for the small size of the dish. My lamb dish was greasy, tasteless, full of fat and gristle and certainly didn’t taste like lamb. It appeared to be some type of shaved meat which I would guess was yesterday’s. When I complained I was told that some people like the ‘lamb’ fatty. I found the staff to be not unpleasant but rather apathetic and we had to walk over to ask to order. Could I suggest staff training, a new chef and sprucing the place up. It looked decidedly shabby. On the up side, my husband quite liked his meal (which was really small but did look better than mine) but agreed with me when he tasted mine.

I like to think I am a fair and just reviewer, this was and I am 53 years old , the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to enter. Not going to offer feedback on individual dishes, they were all swimming in oil and very slimy, if every other restaurant in Christchurch is closed and you have no choice, get a cab to somewhere else.

As in title very pricey for not a lot of food. Container half full and $13.00. Greasy as no disabled access. No restaurant parking. I wouldn’t even bother. Hard to say as I love Chinese food, better off going to a takeaway place on outskirts and paying less and getting more and yummy food

The food from this place is worse than any cheap Chinese takeaway you can find in New Zealand. If the person has ever tried to cook for someone, the food would be better. We were so hungry after a days walking but still couldn't finish what we ordered. I would pay $100 for anyone who stopped me going into this place that day in our trip.

Went there specifically for hotpot, and was dismayed by the quality of the soup and ingredients. Soup tasted sorely of MSG and needle mushrooms were from a can. Blue cod slices and scallops were frozen and were fishy/tough. Hot beancurd drink had a strong plastic taste to it and none of us wanted to drink a second gulp. We left dinner feeling very thirsty due to the MSG in the soup, and not satisfied at all. In the end we headed to another cafe for additional bites. The meat slices and pork balls were okay.

We ate here because there was no restaurant open since its a Sunday. We ordered corn soup, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, fried dumplings. The dumplings were small, the sweet ans sour pork has more breading than the actual pork, the corn soup has more water. We were billed NZD91.00. This is too expensive.
