Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing food. Super quick with orders. Drinks were great. Service could be better but overall a really great spot for dinner!

We had heard about the Sakimoto & were not disappointed. It offers authentic Japanese cuisine at reasonable prices and lots of choice. We dined there a couple of nights! The staff provide very good service considering how busy it is. Definitely book a table if...you intend to go for dinner.More

Enjoyed a lovely outdoor dining experience, watching trams pass by. The staff was attentive, and the food was simply beautiful. Even my 8-year-old had no complaints and thoroughly enjoyed his meal.

This place serves really good Japanese food at a reasonable price. It's also BYO ($13 a bottle) and with a bottle store next door it's a convenient option. They are fully-licensed also. Service was excellent and everything we selected was absolutely delicious.

Authentic Japanese cuisine at this very popular and bustling restaurant in the centre of Christchurch. Food tasty and well presented. Reasonably priced. Suggest you share the dishes.

This restaurant was packed when we arrived and filled up again at 8.45, just before closing. Obviously very popular. We enjoyed everything about our experience at Sakimoto. Drinks were both non alcoholic Japanese cocktails and an Orion beer. Dishes we tried included softshell crab, salmon...sashimi, poached veges, grilled eel bento box, double salmon rolls, and salmon caviar sushi. We finished with mochi ice cream.More

My wife and I spotted this restaurant after journeying on the Christchurch tram, as it is right across from the Tram's office, and the starting point of the tram service. We had made a reservation earlier in the day, and were seated immediately upon our...arrival for our 7pm reservation. The restaurant was packed. All the staff that we had contact with were exceptionally polite and attentive. Our dinner choices were taken quickly, and the food arrived in excellent time. We shared a plate of the tempura vegetables, and the pork dumplings. I had the tempura king prawns, while my wife had the chicken teriyaki with greens. ALL the food was very flavorful, and the chicken teriyaki was very tender and juicy. We topped off dinner with dessert, a creme brulee for my wife and Mochi Ice cream for myself. Everything went smoothly from start to finish with our meal.More

Great sashimi and salmon sushi. The chefs yuzu jelly was inspired. Service was good and the portions were right.

They have a lot of tempting options from small plates to big entrees. The chef came out a couple of times and was speaking in Japanese to a family at another table so it is very legit with the chef and we feel it is...a place to try if Japanese people are also enjoying the restaurant. We tried a lot of small plates including salmon and tuna sashimi, gobo fries, crispy salmon skin, mushroom oyster tempura and miso soup and everything was delicious. My favourite was the salmon sashimi and my wife really enjoyed the mushroom oyster. We were expecting small plates but the portions are actually quite generous. All the food would go well with sake, beer or even some of their delicious cocktails. The restaurant is located in Cathedral Junction which is a cool hangout spot with the trams going by. On our first night we walked by the restaurant and saw the inside and outside were full so we tried it on our second night. Cathedral Junction is a team station in a way and you can watch the trams go by while you eat your dinner. We also noticed a sign that said they will allow you to bring your own bottle of wine and there is a wine shop nearby!More

This place is delicious and so consistent!! We haven’t been here for over 4 years and it was just as perfect as ever!! We booked in advance, which is a must as it is always busy. Love how you can get a few things to...share as it’s so hard to choose from all the great options. The food is real Japanese food, and the flavours reminds me of being in Japan. Can’t wait to return again!!More
