About
At the Fisherman's Wharf we have the catch phrase,'From the Boat to Plate'and for a very good reason....We have our own local commercial fishing boats and that means our seafood is as fresh as it gets! In fact, we've been fishing as a family for over 50 years. Speaking of family, one of our owners parents started the first fish and chip shop in Port... Chan's Cafe. So with the fresh fish caught by the locals, the stunning world class Harbour view, relaxed atmosphere, a team of friendly staff and fabulously delicious dishes,we look forward to seeing you.....Again and again! Due to the nature of the industry, catches can vary and quotas change,so prices, daily specials and availability may change

This visit was for Mother´s Day. We have always enjoyed eating at Fisherman´s Wharf. Excellent food and a variety of choices. I had the yummy seafood chowder. My son had the streak and veggie plate. The wait staff was excellent. We dined early at 4.30...and by the time we left the dining areas were filling up. Nice family place to eat, then stroll around this special part of Christchurch. After passing through the tunnels and entering this new world, the restaurant is to the left. So delightful to be near the port, the view of Quail Island and the Port Hills.More

After good recommendations from friends we ventured here to enjoy the view and food. The view is great and interesting, watching the port workings. However the food was disappointing... scallops wrapped in bacon, soggy bacon lacking taste and should have been trimmed of excess fat,...the scallops overcooked... The blue cod and chips OK... but the seafood chowder very poor, could not see any seafood, save for a couple of bits of white/gray fish and some small clams ... no mussels, no salmon bits no prawns or shrimps. The decor requires a spruce up... The manager was unapologetic really, just saying that's how they serve the chowder. There are plenty of other places in the South Island NZ that have seafood food chowder that has seafood in every spoonful, alas not the place. Despite a reduced charge for the chowder we won't be going back anytime soon!More

Great location and service. Menu was varied and reasonably priced. Chef’s special of orange roughy with Chardonnay sauce was the best fish dish I’ve had.

I had won a voucher from the Charteris Bay Golf Club and so ventured the hours drive from our home to redeem, soooooo worth it. Greeted by friendly staff, each of our dinks and entrees not brought out at the same time (one had finished...before other arrived) but they were absolutely delicious as were the mains. Best spiced tomato juice I've tasted! We had Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Oysters, Chicken Burger and Beef Burger, recommend them all. The view of the harbour and working port was reflected in restaurant decor . Will definitely be back and hope they continue to sponsor golf tournaments!More

We enjoyed all 3 courses of our delicious meal with great service provided also. The seafood was beautiful and the salads were delicious too. Mum enjoyed the Bluff oysters so much she had to take a dozen away to have later and she said they...were the best she's ever had which is high praise indeed.we will be back again and again.... 5 stars.More

Great seafood, a bit pricy but very fresh and was served fast. Skip the cocktails - they’re over priced and boring. Tripadvisor wants 100 characters so here’s some extra words.

Very friendly staff. Meals are huge and we all had difficulty finishing with a few doggie bags taken home. Food is tasty and well presented. Fabulous views over the harbour.

The freshest and most tasty, succulent fish that we have ever tasted. We are both big fish eaters and live in the UK where we have eaten in the most reputable establishments but The Fishersman's Wharf is in another class. Make sure that you book.

Fabulous fresh seafood served in this 'dock side location'. Set close to the action of this busy working port, you can sit and watch the boats coming and going, and freight being handled, while enjoying the best seafood we have had on South Island. The...venue is not a 'fine dining' experience. You get good sized portions of fabulous food in a 'no nonsense' environment. Really helpful staff and all reasonably priced. Probably best to make a booking online ( easy to do), as it is obviously very popular.More

Had a brilliant time catching up with family from Melbourne. Everyone was so nice and cooked special food for one of us with diet restrictions. The food was beautifully cooked. Will definitely be going back for another meal soon. Thank you from all of us.

To the owners/ management - Please don't visit the tables and ask how the experience is if you are not mature enough to accept genuine feedback or to have a proper conversation because people are not going to tell you what you wanna hear but...the reality. So good luck with continuing the business with that attitude!! 👏🏻👏🏻 To the customers - This place used to be an icon of Lyttelton and it's absolutely heartbreaking to see what's it becoming under new management or ownership. We have been dining here for nearly 4 years and really enjoyed the food and service until our last visit on 28th Feb 2024 which turned into a nightmare. I ordered my usual seafood chowder as the main and my partner got a fried chicken burger. Once the food arrived we were shocked because the main-size chowder came in a very small plate along with 2 thinly sliced bread and the burger bun was rock hard. My partner went to the counter and asked if the chowder was the main or entree because it was a super small soup compared to what we had last time and I had the photos of my previous visit too. But it is the main and we were settled to it but we had the conversation something is wrong. Suddenly another lady came to us and claimed she was the new manager or owner of the place and asked us how is the food. We told her we were not happy with the meals because this was not how it used to be and I showed the photos as well. She got offended and said it was in my mind (Well it is in the photo lady!!😂) and the food is still the same and people are accusing them because they are Asians. So the dining has completely turned into an argument because she is accusing us of not accepting the food the way they are. We left the place after paying and decided to share with the community if you have ever been a fan of this place so it's worth knowing what's going on just in case you ever wanna go there.More

Great meal and very yummy food.. Service was a little slow but staff apologised that it was because of unexpected shortage. . However more than made up by providing complimentary drinks.
