Brilliant choice we made for our last night of our holiday in Christchurch. We hadn't made a reservation as it was a Wednesday evening so didn't think it would be a problem getting a table @ 7.30/8pm...how wrong were we. However we were asked to...come back in 25 mins and that would give them chance to clear some tables...(so we nipped to Peacocks, near the Art gallery over the road for a glass of fizz, very nice too) Back at Fiddlesticks We started with the satay cauliflower & parfait...absolutely delicious. We then both chose the fillet steak, cooked perfectly & the duck fat potatoes were amazing. Reasonably priced & very friendly staff.More

Very disappointed in food it’s was limited and the meats were terrible. We got there at 7.30 but didn’t get starters till 9. Main was about 10pm But the worse insult was I was charged a $25 dollar charge to bring my brothers 50th birthday...cake. To which we were not asked or told about at any time. I would never go back. The staff were pleasant was the only nice thing about itMore

Fiddlesticks was a rainy evening in Canterbury perch that did not disappoint. The restaurant/bar was selected because seafood was on the menu. And, there were 3 main dishes to choose from. The midwek special was unusual -- Hake with prawns and calamari in a marinara...sauce, which was surprisingly delicious as was the Akaroa salmon. the steak was yummy too. And all accompanied by a 2º pinot noir from Otago that was quite fine too. Dessert of homemade maple almond and carrot cake ice cream most sweetly was the perfect finish.More

We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary which we made notes of in the booking and staff didnt even mention it during the evening so was mildly disappointing. The mains were quite tasty but a side of vegetables was just pumpkin only which was a...bit unexpected thinking it would be a mix of veggies at least. The deserts were lacking in flavour so also disappointing and then while eating desert the kitchen started blasting exceptionally loud hard rock music so it was hard to even hear each other talk in the restaurant section where we were sitting close by so we left and wondered if this was there intention all along! We had bar service ordering a Braised lamb burger and the pea spinach and feta risotto. Both thoroughly enjoyed our meals while also enjoying a glass of red in the warm and cozy atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Highly recommend.More

Went there for a 50th birthday with family and friends. Food was good, everyone was happy with what they ordered. Steak was cooked just right and the pork belly, delicious. We were not given an opportunity to order desert as they brought out the birthday...cake which was pre delivered to the restaurant. The only disappointing part of the dinner was they did not take the cake out to room temperature prior to serving, instructions were given ( $25 cakery charge) so the cake was hard and cold as it was butter based. Also we would have preferred to cut and serve the cake ourselves. Wine choice was good and service was friendlyMore

Delicious food and very friendly staff. We ordered the lamb and salmon, fresh and well cooked. The wine was also very good.

My wife her brother and his wife and I dined at Fiddlesticks on Wednesday 12th evening for my wife’s birthday. The service was outstanding and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. The food was - as always - next level and we couldn’t fault...anything that night. Although we hadn’t been there for a few months the new menu was comprehensive and catered for all tastes. The wait staff were very knowledgeable and very prompt and very polite with their service. This is our most preferred venue to dine in in the city and. This is a fine-dining house with a very relaxed, pub-like vibe and we had a WONDERFUL dinner here! Unlike many restaurants in NZ, Fiddlesticks serves normal-size portions (most restaurants we visited served enough for 2 or 3)! My fish Main was served with roasted whole...carrots and beetroot hummus … and a feta emulsion that still makes my mouth water! Our server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Oh, and their house wine was delish!More

The chorizo and jalapeño hash with egg and the salmon open faced sandwich with egg were wonderful. They had great drink deals as well for a more boozy lunch!More
