Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got a card in the mailbox to say this café had reopened so we decided to pop down. We received a lovely greeting and had a delicious coffee. We decided to return the next week for brunch and it did not disappoint, still the loveliest, warm greeting and excellent service. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely lovely. Where this café is located is great for parking on the weekends and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Can thoroughly recommend this delightful café in every way

Great coffee, food, service and very well priced compared to many others which have put up prices a lot. This is in a lovely spot and perfect if you want to get away from the hustle/bustle and get a nice view of the surround hills. Good parking too. An absolute hidden gem.

Coffee is really good. I drink short blacks and this is one of the best. Smooth, tart, and hot. Beautiful. The food has changed over the years and now it is back up to par. Fresh, clean, spicy or not, and delicious. A covered outdoor area that is dog friendly. It's really, really good now. :)

Castle Rock Cafe is proudly on view as you turn into Mary Muller Drive. They have really good Supremo coffee and a great range of well prepared food for breakfast, lunch and afternoon treats. You may think that their location in a trading estate may mean 'tradies chips' only, but they have plenty of really healthy options like the eggs on toast which minimizes the fat in your breaky. I'd recommend the salmon and cream cheese roulade as well as the veggie fritattas. Staff are always friendly and helpful. And as I said... coffee is grrrrreat!

I have been to this little gem a few times and this time was better than the last. I ordered the eggs 🥚 Benny and as I don’t eat salad they put a couple of hash browns from the picture you will see it is a great looking meal and tasted even better.

I am somewhat bewildered why I hadn’t heard about this place earlier and am left wondering if my review is betraying the regulars who would prefer to keep this hidden gem secret! However, this is a secret that needs to be broadcast for sure! This place is amazing!
Located in an industrial estate this place offers a casual look at first glance / arrival. Not “up market” in terms of décor with a casual mix of furniture type and style and flooring/claddings… Looks though, in this case, are certainly deceiving… the service is some of the friendliest and attentive to be found and the menu is contemporary and sophisticated in its creation, execution and quality when it arrives to you.
Seating is available “indoors” and also in their clear plastic enclosed conservatory area. It was heart-warming on our visit to observe children are made welcome (toys and colouring activities available) as is the family pooch with drinking bowls provided. Everyone has a personal view about this but I think well behave dogs and kids add to the atmosphere/vibe making a place seem conformable to be in.
The coffee is by “Supreme” which is a roast/bean I am familiar with and enjoy and, as expected, my hot beverage, arriving timely, was full bodied in flavour and gorgeously presented with decoration on the saucer and a wee chocolate fish too – nice touch as its often small things like this that stick in the mind when looking back on a dining experience.
Food also arrived in a timely fashion, and harking back to my opening paragraphs, the presentation is fantastic - as is the quality of ingredients used. Portion size is generous – to the point of having me wonder how/why this is. Are we being short-changed at the so called up-market cafes? Are the overheads cheaper in this location to allow for such large portion sizes (affecting profit margin per meal)? Why is this? In any case Castle Rock offers extremely good value for money as you are getting 1.5 times the amount of food for the same price as similar meals elsewhere! This is an observation not only on our meals prompting this review but also from watching meals being delivered to others dining… All the meals look so large and gorgeous!
To sum up… well worth the drive from anywhere you live to make the trip to Castle Rock Café to get great friendly service, wonderful food and astounding value for money!

My husband and I were looking for a place to eat between the gondola and town. We found this spot and really enjoyed the meal. The restaurant is located in a business area but had a good menu and really good prices. We both had the lasagna and thought it was great and very filling. Quick service from friendly faces.

We had been at the gondola in Christchurch and looking for a place to have lunch. Chose this place on the reviews and were not disappointed. Helpful staff, great coffee and a lovely lunch for adults. Not a great selection for kids but our son was very happy with his cheese and bacon bap!

This cafe is tucked away in a business area off Chapmans Road in a suburb called Hillsborough. Good menu selections and well priced. Good indoor and outdoor seating areas. Service is quick and friendly staff make you feel welcome. This cafe is good for work lunch visits as they serve the food promptly. Can park at the door.

We booked a table for four, plus a highchair, then added further seats as late as the morning of our lunch with no bother at all. It's industrial location totally belies how damned good the experience was. Great, friendly service, fast, well-priced and delicious food. EVERYBODY in our group were very pleased with their respective meals, and the little people really enjoyed scooting about in the old tin pedal-cars.
Thanks again, made for a great family lunch.

If you are looking for somewhere that has something for everyone then look no further! This place is a must try! The staff are awesome, super friendly and attentive. There is a great range of food that is always well cooked, well presented, and tastes even better! The coffee is on point every time and hands down the best Salmon Eggs Benedict I have ever tasted! I have been here numerous times over the past 12months and can honestly say I have never had a bad experience... definitely one of Christchurch's best kept secrets and a place 'well worth finding' !! :)
