Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our first visit was perdect. Great intuition from the staff that were overwhelming fabulous. When ordering entree to share that said they would make it a 4 piece so we would all get a piece. Never had that at a restaurant before.
Went back a second time and had different food and both the food and service were faultless

Walked past Kum Pun tonight and came in for a meal at about 8pm as the decor and atmosphere looked so appealing. First impression was that the restaurant is very classy and intimate.
Staff were very quick to provide quality service, offering menus and taking our drink and meal orders with natural friendliness.
I let slip it was my fiancé’s birthday and they brought him a surprise dessert after dinner, then offered to get photos of us together. Such time and care went into looking after us this evening. Meals are mid range price wise but so worth it with the authentic flavours and beautiful presentation. Definitely will be back next time we visit Christchurch.

Red Curry with Chicken is amazing (especially when you get it spicy). I've gone here almost every Thursday for lunch for years, never had a bad experience with the food or service.
Also, free jelly beans! Co-workers and I have a running competition to see how many we can scoop out with the provided teaspoon.

I struggle to post bad reports, especially in uncertain times such as nowadays, but this really needs to be said.
They put single diners out of sight at the back near the toilets, even though there were small tables among the other diners, as if they're ashamed of single diners. I cannot speak for the other singles, but I was on a business trip so was necessarily alone. Do they have a problem with business travel Customers or single Customers?
They had no Singha beer, the most popular good Thai beer. They blamed supply chain, but it's not even on the menu! Has this supply problem existed since they planned their menu? How did they manage to acquire other imported beers with sufficient reliability to have them on the menu?
I ordered a stir-fry dish. It arrived about a minute after ordering. It must have been precooked, it could not possibly have been prepared fresh. Also, it tasted stale, as if it was prepared earlier, possibly in error, & kept in case some sucker ordered it.
It was served on a proper dinner plate, but the portion was smaller than a side plate. It looked lost & lonely in the vast emptiness of the plate.
The rice portion was tiny, maybe three or four spoons of rice, & looked equally lost & lonely on the side plate.
They said it was medium spicy, but it was actually totally bland.
I asked for more chilli which was promptly delivered.
At $24 I had expected a meal of significantly larger portion and of substantially better quality than that.
As if the shocking food is not enough, even the background music is Western, not Thai. Not even any other Asian traditional music to make even a basic effort!
Even bad Thai restaurants in Auckland have better value than this place.
This restaurant presents as an authentic Thai cuisine establishment, but it's actually a sad example of commercial rip-off culture in the hospitality sector.
I will not return.
I do not recommend it.

Really lovely food! Restaurant was quiet but we figured this is typical for Christchurch on a weeknight! Altered a few items to suit our dietary requirements and our meals came out quickly and we’re all delicious. Pad Thai was a hit for all 3 of us who ordered it (with Tofu, Prawns or Chicken). Highly recommend for tourists and locals alike!

With rain falling and having just landed on a flight from Auckland we were looking for a good restaurant to satisfy our hunger near our hotel In central Christchurch. We discovered Kum Pun Thai was only a few hundred metres from our hotel Wyndham Gardens.
Fortunately it was a lucky break and we were welcomed with open arms, seated and our orders taken Chilie duck for ne and a Thai curry "HOT" for my wife. Our delightful waitress took our orders and gave the customary comment about the heat of the chillies in the dish. For me its no contest as I go medium every time but not for my wife who invariably goes hot or Thai hot. Tonight was going to be a lasting 48 hour hot experience. All I can say is the young kass that served us knew her chillies.
Great food great service and a friendly easy atmosphere. We will be back!

OK, that’s the obligatory pun out of the way, but it’s true. Their website boasts the crown of most authentic Thai restaurant in Christchurch and I can’t deny this claim.
We started with a sharing plate of Pad Thai spring rolls matched with a tangy tamarind sauce. They were truly to “Thai for”, (OK, OK, I’ll stop now), but at least you can appreciate our enthusiasm for these crunchy morsels.
Our table server had checked and double checked the level of spiciness required in our curries and we weren’t disappointed. My Beef Massaman curry was beautifully presented, as was my partner’s Green Chicken curry. A good serve of steamed rice was complimentary with each. This was a pleasant surprise for us as the rice component is invariably an extra cost, back home in Australia. Both meals were promptly presented and absolutely delicious with tender pieces of meat, balanced veggies and perfectly spiced sauces, exactly to our preferences. A polite enquiry by our waitress, after we had started, to confirm if everything was to our liking, was an example of their guaranteed quality service.
We’re looking forward to returning very soon to further explore the menu and enjoy their wonderful atmosphere and service.

We were a 2 generation family group, tired after our late night flight and an enjoyable time in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, so looked for a nearby Thai restaurant. Its presentation was different and inviting so we choose Kum Pun.
The service was friendly and helpful and the menu range was suitable for varied tastes and needs.
The food was delicious, and the portions were sensible and attractively presented.
While we did not choose alcohol tonight their choices were suitable for every taste.
We plan to return later this week and sample other things!

We popped in for an earlyish tea on Easter Monday night. What a great find within walking distance of our central city hotel. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The menu is fairly extensive and offers a wide range of choices. We loved the beef red curry but other diners meals looked equally as delicious - only sorry this is our last night in Christchurch otherwise we would be back to sample more dishes. Lovely restaurant with an excellent location. On a nice summer's evening sitting outside would be lovely I'm sure.

This must be one of the best Thai restaurants in Christchurch! It is clean, appealing and the service is spot on. Food was absolutely superb, served quckly and was hot.
The Pad Thai Spring Rolls with Tamarind Chutney are delicious as were the mains and the Banana Roll dessert.
Will definitely be back for more!

Booked here for dinner prior to going to see a show at the town hall - mostly as it was ideally located and had some good reviews. Menu is not huge but has sufficient selection and good vegetarian options for my friend. Pad satay sauce with tofu and pad thai with pork were both delicious. A clean establishment with excellent attentive service. What a great find. Would highly recommend a visit.

Highly recommend.
Polite and friendly service on arrival, we dined on a Monday evening.
I ordered the drunken noodles, super tasty, full size seafood ingredients like large mussels, didn’t wait too long the service was quick.
Portion sizes are spot on.
Place is clean and tidy will definitely be back.

For my birthday celebration, nine of us decided to visit this place. To our delight, the dishes arrived promptly, and the food exceeded our expectations in terms of taste. Each member of our group was impressed with their choice of dishes.
We thoroughly enjoyed not only the delicious food but also the excellent service provided with a warm smile. The staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, contributing to a memorable dining experience for all of us.
Well done and thank you so much for looking after us.

We chose a Thai restaurant close to our hotel. Little idea what to expect.
We love Thai food and spent time in Thailand as well as seeking out Thai restaurants in our travels around the world.
What a surprise; this was the best Thai meal we ever had.
The dishes all looked like carefully crafted art. At so many Thai restaurants, it is just a bunch of ingredients heaped on top of one another. Here the plating of food was carefully and artfully done.
The dishes tasted even better than they looked, if that’s at all possible.
Beautiful flavours, exceptional Penang curry. Had it a million times; so special here.
Chicken with Thai basil and garlic; fragrance heaven with juicy morsels of perfectly cooked chicken instead of the overcooked meat of all varieties in so many Thai restaurants worldwide.
Lovely service. Great cocktails.
Nothing to fault.
I’m so jaded, I really have a restaurant experience these days that I find remarkable. This was truly remarkable!
My highest recommendation!
