Visited with four friends - one of whom had personally gone into the restaurant earlier to request a booth table as they had difficulty sitting on high seating after an operation. We were told we had to sit on high stools at the cooking area....We didn’t want to. Despite two diners willingly offering up their table for four the staff initially refused to allow us to sit there. After 10 minutes we were seated. The service was abysmal - slow, rude and indifferent. The food was tasty and plentiful but the evening was marred by the total indifference of the staff. I won’t return - ever.More

Wonderful evening at Tony’s. Service was great. The menu was extensive for choice and everything was cooked to our liking. Highly recommend .

Stopped in here for dinner so we could introduce our daughter to the way the chefs cook (and entertain) when cooking on the teppan grill. First issue we had was trying to find a park. Drink orders were taken quickly. We were sat around the...teppan grill. One of the dining areas was not cleaned properly from the prior people - as there was still a little food in front of me. Made me concerned about the three dipping options (the food was beside and a little behind), so didn't use them. Daughter was given a kids menu which had colouring/games on it to keep her occupied. The food was fresh and tasty. We ordered the yakiniku teppan a la carte at $44 per person. Expected a little more entertainment after being to the Park Royal teppan yaki restaurant many many years ago and the Riccarton @Tony's a couple of years ago, but it was still good. The toilets were clean and I loved the recycled water set up. Yes, would come here again.More

Has been a while since i visited, but found the standard about the same. Service was a little slow at the Teppanyaki, particularly for drinks. I had the special 'All You Can Eat' and found it very satisfying. Found wines expensive.

This is a regular spot for us, last nights' visit is the first after lockdown. It wasn't busy and despite waitresses being available I had to go to the bar to order drinks after waiting 10-15 minutes. Food delivery was slower than normal and I...heard other patrons complaining about the time it took to get their food. My wife ordered all you can eat Teppanyaki and I the mixed meat. After a while the waiter returned to advise they had run out of lamb (this was 7pm) so I opted for beef instead. Venison was served which I swapped with my wife for her beef so no real harm done. I told the waiter but it didn't seem to register with him what the issue was. My wife was happy with her meal but I was pretty underwhelmed with mine at nearly the same price of her "all you can eat". Over all it wasn't the usual pleasant efficient experience we've come to expect.More

We have eaten in several Tappanyaki restaurants elsewhere (not New Zealand) and whilst this is adequate, it lacks the flamboyance and style we expect in this style of restaurant and is expensive by New Zealand standards. We ate here during a visit to NZ 2...years ago and my impression is that nothing has improved. The food was delicious, service good, but the purpose of the evening – to be entertained by the chef preparing food and cooking in front of guests, involving them and entertaining them is somehow lacking. Our chef cooked us a good quality meal, but the ingredients were pre-prepared rather than being chopped in front of guests as is normal. Somehow the flair was missing. The “chefs” could be cooking anywhere. This may – of course – be partly the fault of the guests who – from observation – were more interested in their conversation than interacting with the chef. But in that case why bother to go to this restaurant, rather than a standard place where the food is prepared behind the scenes and presented at table? In order to survive – or at least attract customers who know and understand this style of cooking – Tony’s needs to up the game considerably.More

From the time we arrived until the time we left, we enjoyed every minute. The service was friendly and attentive, watching the guys cook on the Teppan was entertaining, the food was really delicious & authentic, the prices were up there but the quality warranted...it. Well done - really loved it. We even tried to come back a second night to try some other things from the Teppan, but alas we arrived to late, and they were closing ... a definite must for us next time we are in Chch.More

My partner & I have been going here all year at least once a month, we just love it! We’ve been to the one in Riccarton, great too but not the same atmosphere for us, although still yummy. We usually get the ‘land & sea’..everything...soooo fresh, seafood perfect! Party in my mouth, if I know we’re going there that week.. I have sashimi & lamb dreams 🤗🤗..staff are awesome & they seriously remember you.. your requirements from your last visit etc. manager is the sweetest, wants to make sure everything is right. Can’t fault Tony’s 🤩🤩🤩🤩More
