About

We are a relocated restaurant from the city due to the earthquakes. After the Earthquakes we managed to start up again this time as a takeaway with outdoor seating and making great use of a 40ft container which we converted to a 40ft Kitchen, Our Chefs are still serving restaurant quality food, at takeaway prices. We have a busy little spot so wait times can average between 5-15mins for your meal , txt orders are a good way to go on a wet day ... We look forward to seeing you here. Just remember when placing feedback ..If you have had a problem let us know straight away so we can resolve it, it's hard to be given a opportunity to fix things if you don't tell us.

Great Thai food

Visited early evening. We ordered pad Thai chicken and spicy chicken with rice. Both came quickly, freshly cooked. Good sized portions. Both meals were delicious, especially the spicy chicken dish. We sat at the benches outside in the warm weather, it was very quiet when we were there. Great food, and with both dishes 7 NZ$ also excellent value. This place is well worth hunting out.

Street Food.

We were recommended here by our motel, we just wanted to eat after a long journey, and couldn’t be bothered with the going into the city. The food was good, fast and piping hot, but don’t expect a restaurant, this is street food, cooked inside a container, and served out thrown old caravan, on a street corner, but there are benches and tables, I think it’s mostly used as a take away, but there were at least 6 other couples sat eating with us. It’s very cheap, nourishing and tasty, in fact when we left, it must of had a queue of a dozen people waiting. Have a go yourself, we’d recommend it.

Great taste, but cheap meat

Ordered thai fried rice with beef a week or two ago. The fried rice tasted absolutely amazing. I loved the flavour, but the let down was the beef. It just felt like they used the cheapest cut of beef possible. Was not appealing, which kinda ruined the meal, but not really. I would get again, but with a different meat.

Did not cook my phone order

Sadly I didn't get to eat at Thai Container last night (Friday). I placed my order by phone on Thursday for pick up on Friday at 5.30pm and they had no record of it : ( They suggested I had placed the order with another Thai place but I have checked the number I call and it is the same as on their website. They were very busy, there was a large queue and luckily a very kind woman let a couple of us waiting for takeaways go ahead of her. They did offer to cook my meal but I was meeting family so had to go. So disappointing ... I got a great Indian mean closer to the location of my family dinner instead - ROTI CHAI. I phoned in the order and it was ready by the time I drove from Bealey Ave to Centaurus Road.

It has been a few years since we chose the Thai Container and we weren't dissapointed. Good food, quick and cheap. Back again a few nights later for more. It's a takeaway restaurant with some outdoor picnic table seating, which seems to have a constant stream of customers.

Really nice pad Thai

Went here one Sunday to grab some lunch after reading the reviews on here. I had Pad thai chicken & partner had the beef. Really nice thai (although sweeter than what I am used to & like) Enjoyed it never the less. Very filling, friendly as service and quick. We got there before everyone started arriving for lunch/takeaways but it was nice sitting outside and enjoying the food Would definitely go back in the future

Good good, large menu not all of which is Thai

Drove past this place and decided to pop in. Struggled to pick stuff off the menu so ended up picking a few things... The Thai fishcakes were great. Decent flavor and texture, which is the mark of a good fishcake, these were nice, soft unlike some which can be rubbery.. The pork ribs were good. The flavor was nice, remarkablely Chinese in style but ideal nevertheless. They did charge me (and made me) two portions but never mind, they were that good I ate them anyway. The slight let down was the Pad Thai chicken. Sightly average, for me it's all about the condiments, it did have peanuts and chili in small pottles but I could have done with some fresh beansprouts too and maybe some egg cooked into it.. flavour was almost there but a bit too subtle. Nice but not perfect.. The roti was good, cooked fresh in coconut oil. In all they are doing a great job doing what they are doing. Clearly a local favorite as plenty of people ordering. I would go again

Used to be good

I feel like this place has gone downhill a bit. The food used to be really good a few years ago. Last time we went there and ordered the beef pad thai, the beef was really tough and thick. Hopefully they can return the same quality as before soon.

Oily Sugary Disappointment

Just flat out horrible. The oil content was crazy in these two dishes and just tasted like sugar and oil. One of the lid opened and covered me in oil on my walk home. If you like good thai , I would go somewhere else. I tried Thai Container because I happened to be walking past.

After the great dissapointment that is Thai Orchid and desparate for some good thai food this place was a winner. Solid menu, tasty food and good value. Ticked all the boxes with fast and friendly service and ordering. Definately on the CHCH Thai list as the search continues....

Great food, awesome people

Just grabbed some food from here and I must tell you the food was really good. I liked the pad thai prawn the most. Friendly staff, hood service, reasonable price. Definitely must try when you are in the area.

Thai street food at its best

This little gem was so busy with take out. The food was good, cheap and quick and the portions large. The staff were friendly even though run off their feet on a cold Wednesday night.

Worth trying

Tried this Thai after a recommendation and were pleased we did! Hard to find as it looks like a caravan from the road, it’s only when you get close that you see it’s a converted container with a few picnic benches outside. We phoned our order in and it was ready and waiting. Tasty and reasonable sized portions. Would be nice to have an explanation of some of the dishes as we did have to take pot luck!

Fantastic Thai food - fresh, hot and delicious. Better than any restaurant I have been to. I would be very happy to eat here again. My only suggestion would be for them to offer a better range of drinks.

Really like this place.

The food is always good here. Service is friendly and there are picnic tables outside for you to sit and enjoy your meal which is lovely on a warm night.
