We were two couples, for lunch. Two of us were locals but had not been here before. Two of us were kiwi tourists who also hadn't been here before. We had wanted to try something in this new Riverside complex, and this turned out to be a great first impression. There are several eating/drinking areas in this restaurant. Inside, the only free tables were high, with stools, and as all 4 of us are over 65 we preferred normal seats. The available low seats were kinda outdoors, and on a brisk winter day, even with the available heating, we were a little dubious. So the very cheerful chap who greeted us offered us a table upstairs, saying that he would be the one looking after us up there. Turns out he's the Manager, and one of the upstairs tables was his "office". We chose that and for the duration of our stay we were the only patrons there, which suited us fine as two of us are hard of hearing. If I tell you that lunch went from 12.30 to 4.00pm you'd probably guess that we were having a good time, and so it was. The food was excellent - sharing plates, including charred broccoli, salmon salad, calamari. I explained the style of beer I like, and the recommendation from the manager was absolutely spot-on, thoroughly enjoyed by both males. The waitress who brought our food was a delightful young frenchwoman. The entire experience was everything we could have hoped for, and the two tourists among us walked around the entire complex afterwards and came away very impressed indeed. Kaiser Brew desrves to succeed massively. It's a great venue in a delightful spot, well staffed, great atmosphere for all ages, and serves great food and beer (and probably other drinks, but we didn't test those). 10 out of 10 folks - very well done.

Kaiser Brew Garden is becoming a regular stop for me. The reason is, it's a great spot, with unique beer (ie I've not yet seen it to buy) and the best antipasto platter I've ever found. Bavarian style, but reminds me of the pubs in England where they cater for their European neighbours. The English Bitter is very tasty, slightly more bitter than Cassels Best. The Vienna Lager also a malty favourite. Our friends enjoyed a Marguerita pizza and we shared that and the platter which has delicious cheese, cold meats, a couple of sausages and amazing chicken liver parfait with fresh crusty white bread. Whether it's a lazy Sunday afternoon or a busy Saturday night, you'll be happy with both experiences which will be different every time. Great spot, check it out.

I overheard someone saying Kaiser was good when I was at Riverside market for lunch, so thought J would try it out for dinner, There was a cold easterly so we headed upstairs where it was warmer. We shared a chorizo pizza, nice thin base, minimal topping which I like. We also had the prawn starter this was delicious, loved the avocado sauce it was served with. My cocktail was pink gin, beautifully presented in a stunning crystal stem glass, have gone looking and have since purchased a set of these for home. Barman was very friendly and helpful. Only fault, no service upstairs, and had to go downstairs to get a water jug.

I have been several times now to Kaiser Bar and on previous occasions very much enjoyed the atmosphere, delicious food, drink selection, and mostly good service. However I was very disappointed with the poor service at a recent dinner out with friends. After an initial flurry of our orders being taken and food promptly brought to us we were pretty much forgotten about. We even had to seek out wait staff to bring us a wine list. On finishing our meals our group sat at the uncleared table with a clutter of used plates and empty glasses, feeling that we had overstayed our welcome. After an hour talking over dirty plates and fancying a dessert and another drink we decided to move on to an alternative venue. It didn't go down very well that once we got to the till our waitress stood with arms folded and then thrust the bill at us, not even asking how we'd enjoyed our evening. Her manner was rather rude and offensive. I certainly wouldn't recommend this as a venue for dinner.

On a flying visit to Christchurch for an event, we decided to come here for dinner. The restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere, the staff where very helpful too. Most impressed with the food. We had the anti pasta platter which was very tasty and then a few small dishes to share, stand out was the pork belly but all dishes were extremely good and we would definitely go back when we next visit Christchurch

Mixed bag on several fronts. We booked a table but got bar stools at a high table in front of the bar, not comfortable. It was a busy Friday night and very noisy. Service was very good, until they forgot to place an order for one of the dishes. I can highly recommend the egg plant and the cauliflower was also good. The calamari and chicken were a bit average. The chips were very good, but anything with maple on it was far too sweet. The jelly tip was a disaster, don’t go near it.

Pleasant enough spot but the service is far too slow. Please just get the basics right. Water goes on the table at the start. Chicken liver parfait should not take 30 minutes to arrive. If you offer more bread, don’t forget the order. We bought less alcohol as a result, not more and your staff held up a table.

Have been here twice now and this venue is humming with happy people enjoying each other’s company. Located on top of the new Riverside market it has so many seating choices from inside the bar, the mezzanine floor, outside with an inside feel, and the balcony. The calamari is well worth ordering, while not a large helping it is cooked beautifully. We had a number of sharing plates for lunch.

We ordered a few shared plates and pizza and were not disappointed by any dish - even the brussels sprouts were good. Our favourites were probably the kumara fries, fried chicken, and cauliflower. Friendly staff and great beers.

Was going to have the chorizo and bratwurst pizza but we decided on a few shared platters instead. The squid, broccoli and the currywurst. Each dish was superb. The balsamic and cucumber gave the squid a different taste combination to normal, the broccoli was a fav for sure, but the currywurst was my pick. Even got more bread to have more of the sauce but could not finish though as was more than enough.

Great food especially the entrees which where fantastic. The waitress advised to have our entree/shared platters first before ordering our Pizzas and pleased we did as we were so full after starters we didn't need to order as many Pizza's. Only negative was that I wanted to change my booking numbers and left several messages on their phone but they never got back to me and haven't had my Kaiser Club reward points credited to my account after a $500 spend.

We found this place after a quick internet search. What a lucky find it was. With one diner coeliac and one not, it’s always a challenge to find a place that everyone is happy with. The menu at Kaiser Brew Bar is almost exclusively gluten free or can be made gluten free. This place is really neat. We arrived right on 6pm on Tuesday 1st November, and it was pretty busy but we were able to find a table. On each table is an app that you can order from and set up a tab. What a great system. Even though we had this option the hostess still came to our table pretty quickly after we were seated to check if we wanted a drink. We let her know that we’d order through the app but for some reason we couldn’t order the sample paddle through the app for hubby. No problem, she took care of that for us. We were particularly impressed at the handle she had on what was happening on the floor. When you arrive, you just go and choose where you want to sit. She knew who was new, who had ordered etc. I think her name was Victoria. Our drinks came really quickly. We choose to have the pork belly entree and a gluten free margarita pizza. Both dishes came in good time. The pork belly was beautifully cooked, tender and bursting full of flavour, the gluten free pizza was just as good as an ordinary pizza according to the non-coeliac. Both dishes were full of flavour. The staff were fast and friendly and when one of the staff popped over to clear out plates to check in on how things were, my husbands only reply was “mean azz” We highly recommend this place and will definitely be back when in Christchurch, and recommend you try the Hazy IPA beer. The innovation around the app use means you don’t have to try and grab staff attention, just keep adding to your order, just don’t forget to close off your tab before you leave. Big thanks to the team and Victoria.

Last night's dinner, on Saturday 04 November, met the usual high standard for service & food on what was a very busy night. What was special was the extra effort kitchen/wait staff put into presenting a birthday cake we'd prepped with appropriate candles & on a board. KBG staff dressed the cake with their own cut flowers & pomegranate seeds, & brought it to the table on their own board - an extra effort that emphasised KBG's care & attention to detail.

Booked at Kaiser Brew Garden for dinner and drinks with my partner and we both loved it. Ticked all of the boxes. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive, helping us choose what to order and checking up on us along the way. For food we had the calamari and the halloumi salad - the calamari was probably the best I’ve ever had and I would say I am a calamari connoisseur at this point. The cocktails were awesome, and the alcoholic lemonade was great too. Will definitely be back.

We stumbled upon this restaurant after wandering upstairs from the Riverside Market. What a delightful location with great food. I can recommend the Kaiser Pale Ale as well. The menu was substantial, although we chose food from the "Small Plate" section, which was more than enough for lunch for us. We noticed tables were already booked for the evening. Hence advise doing so if you want to guarantee a spot.
