First time to this restaurant but wanted to try having passed it so many times and read some good reviews. Really nicely fitted out for dining. Service was attentive and they explained this was Southern Indian cuisine. We ordered several “Small Plates” to be followed...by 1 “Large Plate” - Service was speedy and the small plates came 2 at a time which was ideal. Nicely presented, tasty and decent size portion which enabled a really “try”. Large plate / Main course came with rice and was a chef’s special lamb curry. Really good..! Overall a really nice experience and service was excellent. A return visit venue for sure.More

I recommended The Permit Room to my family after hearing great feedback from a foodie friend. I personally am not really into Indian food myself, but knew my family were. We were served by Karishik ( hope I spelled that right). We had the bottomless...brunch and were not disappointed! We were looked after from beginning to end. The starters were amazing and the main plates superb. It had a very modern twist and not at all what we were expecting. Always there to top up your glass. They were very responsible with ensuring you had a non alcoholic beverage in between each drink, which is company policy and fully understand. I have completely changed my mind on Indian food and will definitely be going back. I highly recommend. 🙏More

Wow. Not your average Indian meal! Exceptional quality food with great service and a beautiful settling. Hi we had the bottomless lunch and ordered the lamb and the butter chicken expecting normal curry with rice but were pleasantly surprised with next level food! The entrees...were also amazing! The drinks kept flowing too making it exceptional value for money!!! Would happily recommend this to any and all and will return many times!More

Us and our family all like Indian food and we have a few favourites around the city. First time at The Permit Room and it goes to the top of the list. This South Indian food is sufficiently distinctive to make the dining experience something...new for us. The venue is attractive if a little noisy but the food, service and facilities are good enough to compensate for this minor criticism. Not a big menu and we think this is a plus. Only one option for each of the mains but we think that has resulted in five exceptional dishes that are all quite different. The starters menu is a bit longer but we are going back if only to try the starters that our group didn't get through. I wouldn't have thought that butter chicken was a particularly South Indian dish but it was the favourite with the grandchildren and one of the adults. For me the fish was just outstanding. I always test restaurants on the standard of the bathroom. Five stars here. The proprietor visited our table regularly as well as our waiter - constant attention to service. One of the party was celebrating her 10th birthday, and she and her sister received a dessert on the house that, I must admit, I helped them consume it was that delicious. If you like any style of Indian food you won't find better in this city.More

We visited The Permit Room last night for dinner…hands down the best butter chicken we’ve had! And the parotta bread was perfect alongside it. Excellent service, will be back for more next time we are in town!

The Resturant is in a heritage building next to Convention Centre. Very convenient and walking distance to the CBD. The ambience is very soothing. Staff are extremely knowledgeable about the dishes and very helpful in deciding your choice. The Chettinad Lamb was very tasty and...prepared with all the authentic spices for which it is famous. We had fried chicken as starter and for mains we had Chettinad Lamb curry and Fish curry which tasted good. Mr Basu is a great host.More
