We found this tiny restaurant in the back streets of Christchurch in 2019 while visiting our sons family in NZ. It had been located in a box container since the earthquake. Almost five years later we are back in Christchurch - the covid pandemic has...been and gone , Christchurch itself is again a vibrant city with many of the new buildings new and gleaming, but Chi Chi Kitchen is still here. Difficult to find ( we struggled as had forgotten the name!) but still the same red check table cloths, the same container setting, and the same, or even more delicious, artisan pasta and Italian red wine. And the same welcome from the same chef/ owner. We love it!More
Not the easiest restaurant to find so they probably don't get many casual walk-ins. We booked online and didn't know what to expect. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. Meal, service, setting and ambience were of high standard. A small menu but the food we...had was excellent. As was the 2021 wine. There is a seating extension across the small courtyard. It doesn't look very welcoming. Try to be seated in the small restaurant if possible. We will certainly return the next time we are visiting Christchurch.More

We headed in as a family plus friend for a cheeky mid week dinner. What a hidden gem! The star of the show is the house made pasta with a delicious bite and fun shapes and textures to suit the different sauces. The pick of...the dishes we ordered was the mushroom ravioli, decadent, rich and packed full of mushrooms. Definitely worth a visit if you love pasta!More
Was not disappointed with the food which was delicious. Our waiting staff lovely but could answer no questions about the menu. The biggest SHOCK was that they don't do coffee...and it's an Italian restaurant.
This restaurant is a real hidden gem. It is small (only about 7 inside tables), it is unassuming re its decor, and in a slightly off the beaten track spot of the city. It is also one of the best Italian restaurants I have ever...been to! The mushroom ravioli was amazing and I cannot wait to go back to have it again! The menu is brief which I personally really like - do a few dishes and do them well; they more than achieve that.More

Fresh pasta, flavour filled sauces, amazing garlic bread and awesome service. I am sure the locals are all over this little Italian place. Waited an hour between entree and main. Ordered garlic bread had two small slices for 3 of us. Mains were very sweet like a heated up beef stir fry with sugar added. So disappointing. The waitress did her best won't fault her service.

Reminiscent of Flour & Water in my home town of San Francisco, Chichi Kitchen (a clever trilingual pun) has nailed the niche of a restrained menu of pasta, perfectly prepared. The owner/chef & staff...were generous & friendly to this solo diner, sharing their perspective on the rapidly evolving CHCH food scene. Their garlic bread redefines the genre, & the mushroom ravioli was an umami bomb, pairing nicely with both a glass of Barbera & Otago Pinot. Highly recommended!More
Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Christchurch. Food is superb, atmosphere is great, and service is excellent. I have food allergies and Chef takes extra care to ensure I get an appropriate meal – which is always delicious. Lots of food options including gluten...free. We have been back numerous times. I was expecting a flash restaurant that matched all these wonderful reviews. It isn’t . But sooooooo what !! It’s all about the food . I came across this wonderful place on Instagram and thought I would give it a try. Honestly, the best Italian in town!! It’s in fact the best Italian I have had in NZ to date! Finally found somewhere that tastes just like the food in...Italy itself! I had the squid ink pasta which was divine! A friend had the rosè chicken which I also had to try! So tasty! By far the best pasta I’ve ever had. The garlic bread was also amazing. They do one thing and wow do they do it well. No hesitation in recommending.
