Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was part of a group that booked the beer garden for drinks and food. We were told food was sorted and was charged per person, sounded great. What actually happened was they didn’t provide enough food and most people left hungry. There was a mix of fried chicken, calamari, sliders etc (which did taste good for the tiny morsel you got to eat) but when they were only bringing out 3-4 plates of each item for a group of 35 this was no way near enough food for how much we paid as a group.

Have been here twice now and both times ordered the super bowl with halloumi and the chips with gravy. Really enjoyed the food and have zero complaints there. The second time we went we did however have a very rude waitress who spoilt the experience a little bit. I thought I had booked a table for the evening but had accidentally booked for the wrong night. Instead of the waitress brushing off my mistake and leading us to one of the many free tables she came across patronising and handled it in a very rude way that almost made us want to turn around and go somewhere else.

Had the platter for lunch, it was ok, mostly pickles and dips, but definitely not worth the price paid. Lacked atmosphere, unless you get a table outside in the sun

Great place to meet friends for a drink and a bite to eat. Mezze dishes are great, especially the Egg plant / Aubergine. Num num. Very casual, so don’t dress up! Cafe style ordering which is then collected on a tray by yourself.

Perhaps the problem was I was expecting the food to be amazing. The falafel and fries seemed overcooked while other dishes were definitely undercooked. The broccoli roasted broccoli which I think was supposed to be charred didn't look like it had been near an oven. The dips were good. The drinks weren't too good either- flat coke very salty margherita. There's a lot of room prices are ok - about $20 per head- but I don't think we'll be taking the family back there in a hurry.

Best food ever. My partner and I have been to several restaurants in akaroa and non of upmarket pricey restaurants served any decent vegan/veggie/paleo options. All of akaroa could not compared to how beautifully flavored and presented Welles street food was. I would pay the $40 for Welles food that I wasted on the flavorless ratatouille at the little bistro. The food here is seriously good. Great for back packers to fancy flyers atmosphere is perfect for everything and everyone. The self service cafeteria tray situation is funny and remind me of being in school and made my partner and I feel comfortable around d all the well dressed people around us. Would highly recommend eating here.

Went to Weeles St hoping for breakfast but they seem to have scaled back their operation and don't so breakfast. So early lunch it was. I had misgivings on perusing the menu but it was quite nice. The chicken and chips looked a bit dessicated but my super bowl of hummus, chickpeas and veges was yummy. The drinks list is extensive and there seems to be a full bar service. The space is huge and needs people in it. It's an old industrial site from thje looks of it. However the street environment is becoming interesting with other cafes and hosp and a no bag bring your own container pantry having just opened up. So the street itself, the eponymous Welles St, is becoming a little destination n it's right. There is street parking but no that much, and it's metered.

Did we pick the worst dish? We both had greek meat ball souvalki, which seemed to be missing both the meat balls and the lettuce but had plenty of red harissa, Really disappointing first visit and we wont be back.

I've been here a few times now for various reasons. My go tos are the mezze platter and margarita on tap - never been disappointed yet! The Mezze Platter is really good value, the service is always quick and the food and drinks great. Next time trying it out with kids in tow!

Visited on a Tuesday night, Grabone to give it a try. First impressions great, phone booking polite welcoming ( Glenn I think) arrived on a cold Christchurch night, warm and cosy for a warehouse conversion. Ordered food and drinks a wee wait but it was busy. Then the food, a Mediterranean platter, very average. Luckily didn’t pay the$48 menu price. The hummus was bland( not a hint of lemon or Tahini). The bread selection was cold limp pita, and toasted bread. The one that had us most confused was the crumbed deep fried crispy bits, that after a bit of dissection we think was Haloumi, but as they were overcooked, we couldn’t be sure. However all of the above, was topped by the $10 fries, seriously overcooked, which when returned were greeted by a grunt, a bit of a a fossick around, no apology or offer of a refund ( we paid extra for these). Highly competitive Christchurch Hospo market, many casualties from high quality restauranteurs struggling. Need to do better guys.

Worst experience I’ve had in a very long time -almost as long as I had to wait to get served in an almost empty bar.Staff look through you like your invisible and when you do finally get your drink you get shafted -$10 for a Peroni. My suggestion is give this place and its brain-dead staff the big swerve!!

Ok let's just say we found the best chips in the Southside of town!!! And it didnt sto there, the menu is catered for everyone. Huge servings too so take a few friends to share. Coffee was ok, could be better but makes up for it with the size of the place, it's where all the cool kids hang and I'm going back!!!
